Cinema is an art form that invites discussion and benefits from it. But in the world of the internet these discussions are louder and exposes us to a carousel of discourse. And there are a few select subjects that get rotated in and out, depending on what project is the hot topic of discussion. And there’s very few topics I find more annoying, than the runtime discourse. People wining and complaining about movie runtimes and asking “what happened to the 90 minute movie” while they binge a season of television that takes over 10 hours to finish. And since the release of Oppenheimer, I haven’t seen too much discourse around it’s runtime, but also I’ve chosen not to expose myself to discourse as much anymore, so I have no clue, nor do I care. But I have noticed the uptick of 3 hour movies during the 2020s, especially in 2022. But 3 hour movies have always been a thing in the same way that 90 minute movies have always been a thing.

I've rarely had more frustration exporting a video, dark images will be the death of me.

*It’s crazy to me that some filmmakers* have to fight for even a 2 hour movie.. then you get directors who can’t tell a good story in 2 hours 30 mins

It be like that sometimes but if the film isn’t good the runtime probably has the least to do with it

Man, I thought you were a new and growing channel with this good a production quality and would go viral anytime soon. But just looked up and seems like you have almost 200 videos on the channel. Keep persisting bro, you've got it!

having recently seen the director's cut version of Amadeus, i can confirm the movie is better with the additional 30 minute bulk. the movie manages to focus on such a seemingly miniscule part of salieri's life and yet provide so many introspective points throughout, douse the movie in (even more with the director's cut) dense and rich characters and veers the movie's focus into those rather than strictly developing the plot as may be typical of a 3 hour movie, and instead delivers its climax through emotional catharsis of salieri's. one of the most brilliant ways of sucking the audience in i've ever seen was the scene in which we meet mozart. a stellar subversion of expectation serving as comic relief but at the same time a first look into salieri's spiraling obsession. combined with the unique point of view and some of the best acting seen on the biggest screen, in my opinion, Amadeus is deserving of the title of a masterpiece

I don’t think I’ve seen the director’s cut but I’ll definitely check it out!

Just imagine how good the director’s cut is, considering how amazing the original is as is

Very interesting video man, I love Magnolia, and I never feel the runtime when I watch The Hateful Eight. I was very surprised to see how low your subscriber count is, because this was very professional.

I think the best 3 hour movies are historical epics. Films like Oppenheimer, wolf of wall Street, JFK, the godfather and more are films that grab your attention and for the most part keeps it for the following 3 hours.

I think the reason youre thinking that is probably because storys that are based on history have a real world passing of time element to them. Condencing real world events that spanned years into a couple hours and painting a fair picture is a lot harder compared to when the story is fiction. When is fiction you can choose to write plotlines that when added up arent 3 hours. The level of detail doesn't dimisnish the level of accurency in the storytelling.

@@FilmTheRightThing good thinking! My only suggestion would be if you could annotate the clips you use throughout, at least when you're showing clip compilations from films you're not actively talking about. I recognised most, but there's definitely some where I wasn't sure. There were a few moments in this which definitely made me excited about film, by the way, that bittersweet feeling of "there's just so much I haven't seen yet, so many good films still to watch!"
