In this video, we will discuss the difference between active noise cancellation (ANC) and microphone noise cancellation (MNC). ANC is a technology that uses microphones to detect external noise and then generates a sound wave that is 180 degrees out of phase with the incoming noise. This cancels out the unwanted noise, making it quieter for the wearer. MNC is a technology that uses software to filter out noise from the sound that is being picked up by a microphone. This can be used to improve the quality of audio recordings or to make it easier to hear someone talking in a noisy environment.

I saw an ad about earbud's ANC and he explained it is used to cancel noise background so that you can only hear the audio from the earbuds. I thought it's for cancelling the noise background of your microphone and I researched and saw this video. Thanks for adding explanation. Now I know what to buy next time.

Super informative video that will help a lot of people! So one would assume with Mic noise cancellation we won’t also get all the background noises player back through the headset like on cheaper headsets making it impossible to hear the caller

Excellent, thank you. I thought that microphone Noise Cancellation was an oxymoron. I stand corrected. Just one point ANC does not repel (push away) anything; it cancels the background with an equal and opposite sound wave.

Can you please do an ANC review, which compares the most popular headset like - Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex - Yealink BH76 - Poly Voyager Focus 2 - Orosound Tilde Pro - etc. Please with „talking“ and „office“ sound, which are more realistic environments as the „music“ one. I'm looking for a headset like orosound for more than a year maybe, but I can't trust the quality of sound and mic noise reduction really justifies the price tag. Anyways you always make me curious featuring this headset on most videos haha.

@@HeadsetAdvisor thanks for replying! One thing that came to my mind right now, because I'm just out of a call with my Sony's XM4, and they lose ALL the audio quality when on a call to compensate for the latency, which is horrible. So are tehe Tilde Pro low latency bluetooth or wireless?

@@lfbarni What you said further emphasizes one of the many reasons we are putting out so much content of the difference between headsets made for work vs headphones made for music. You shouldn't experience the same thing with the Tilde Pro, especially with the included USB Dongle.

@@HeadsetAdvisor that’s so interesting, I com from a gaming background and in gaming you need sound quality and as low latency as possible. Would that mean, ignoring the price, that gaming headsets might become the best headsets overall?

@@lfbarni There would be to much to type in response to this so without getting into all the weeds, for most it's as simple as get a gaming headset for gaming, get a work headset for work and get music headphones for music. Of course there's always exceptions to the general rule. For example, technically the Tilde Pro is made for work first but plenty of clients use it for music and casual gaming as well. Just like there's some gaming headsets that could technically be used for a mix of gaming, work and music, but there's still important nuances that make all the difference.

I’ve noticed I get better performance from headsets in actually phone calls then with recordings of their mic performance. I don’t know why they don’t just always cancel out noise even in “recorder” apps. I notice that with my jabra headsets!

Correct. This was just an example. We'd have no way to show every single headset with both features. The purpose of this video is to educate that ANC is not the same as microphone noise cancellation.

From what I gather, all MNC headsets have ANC but not all ANC headsets have MNC.

So there are also MNC headsets that don't have ANC..? Doesn't make much sense seeing as ANC is a common extra feature whereas MNC is uncommon, so surely if it has MNC it's got ANC too..

Real question is how does one search specifically for MNC headsets/headphones because all I keep seeing is ANC and nothing ever specifying NC at the mic..

@@IsaacParbery when you say MNC if you’re referring to microphone noise cancellation then yes there is many headsets with a noise canceling microphone that don’t have ANC. ANC is only for reducing noise in the speakers for what you hear around you, not what your callers hear.

@@HeadsetAdvisorwell a pair with either purely MNC or both features would be great but all I see are ones labelled with ANC, I have no idea how to find a simple MNC one and any I have seen never advertised it in the name but instead in the description and so far they've always had ANC aswell, so I imagine if I can cut ANC out and have it purely MNC that should save some $.. I've been emailing and you've been responding so thanks for that, I look forward to your responses! :)

Wow, terrible ANC performance by the Orosound Tilde Pro. Jabra Evolve2 85 blows the Orosound ANC out of the water. Too bad the Jabra's boom arm breaks easily. There are still no good devices in this generation of headsets.

Orosound took a different approach with their ANC in comparison to others like you mentioned. Their goal was to create the right amount of noise reduction to be productive while still being somewhat aware of your surroundings.
