Hello Paige, I have watched your videos since your second-year university and would tune in now and again. You have come a long way and well done. The reason why, I decided to comment is that I really enjoyed this video. I thought it is about time I supported you and fully subscribed. About me, mature student graduated in my early 50's, 2016. Your videos are encouraging and a joy to watch. Belated congratulation on your graduation and during lockdown. New job and home. Also, your parents are very supportive, enjoy your new home. Sandie. 🙂

I’m sitting for my last SOA exam in a month. Very interesting to hear how the UK exams are so different. Taking the exams at home seems wild to me! In the US, we have to go to special exam centers. Also taking an exam three days in a row is crazy!

Good luck!! Yeah during Covid the IFoA shifted to online exams and have no plans to go back to in-person exams (it's a lot cheaper). I've got used to the open-book style now so not sure I could handle an in-person exam haha!

There's a course on Coursera called Excel for Business, you can use it to brush up your skills even more, and you can skip the basics and just skim over the things you already know, then you'll get to the things which will be very handy; macros.

Don't give up . Actuarial Examinations are Hard. Especially in any part of the world , the exams are the most difficult exams in the world. You Survive and suceed Theoretical Physics at University of Cambridge . You will become an Actuary soon . I am 100% sure . In my case I study Accounting and is not the best major to become an Actuary but I will never give up .

Have a friend who completed all actuary exams last year. He did it in 4.5 years but had no life in that period. Majority of people will not complete the actuary exams. Average time is 6-8 years and that is quite a long time as someones life and career goals will change.

I think you’ve made the wrong career choice like me, you can make more money with less sweat and tears with a CFA or a humble CS degree from a good university. Actuarial compensation is unfortunately stagnant and also ties your career to a few dying industries (insurance and pensions). Such a pity for actuaries.

People are living longer and longer and you say pensions are a “dying industry” care to explain?!
@MR-po8su
@MR-po8su Жыл бұрын
@@leoralph2810 Sure thing, since the decline of defined benefit schemes (employers taking biometric and investment risk), pensions have become a commodity asset management service requiring little to zero actuarial expertise. It doesn’t mean actuaries won’t exist in future but the areas they can add value has been reduced in the pensions industry. As for insurance, the industry has been characterised by cost pressure for the entirety of my working life which has put a downward pressure on salary. Now contrast that with the last ten years in the tech industry! There’s no shortage of 20-30 year olds making millions of dollars a year.
@MR-po8su
@MR-po8su Жыл бұрын
@@leoralph2810 Also, I don’t see a correlation between number of actuaries in employment and life expectancy. It takes the same amount of effort to calculate the NPV of benefits if the life expectancy is 20 years or 30 years. You might expect people save more for their retirement but the reality is expressed in the appalling savings rates in the West.
