Acura MDX Front Grille Plasti Dip DIY
In this episode I will be plasti-dipping the front grille of my MDX.

Excellent video as always. Have you had any issues with chipping or scratching of the front grill after plasti dipping?

Thanks! My initial application lasted about 3.5 years before chips started to get noticeable. I reapplied after that and got around 3 more years. Since I love how it looks, I’ll probably use actual paint next time I get to it.

Thanks! No, it won’t. You’ll need to modify the bumper and possibly some securing points.

I'm trying to do that to mine but my issue is the chrome started bubbling underneath so I peeled it off and the corners still have chrome.snd I'm not.sure how to take the grill apart from the chrome acura sign in the middle :( any tips

Hey Bagdan, my acura Front grille film (original silver one) has been popping out and pilled off at certain places. Do you think I can use plastidip to re do it? Do I have to tear down all the old film?

Yes, you would have to remove it first and clean the surface before plasti dipping. However I would recommend putting on a new film first. You can get a vynil film pretty cheap (like $10 a roll).

Acura Addicted I wasn’t aware that we can put vinyl film to replace the original one. Can you suggest a right film that would match with Silver original film?

@@SachinKokane I can't recommend anything specific as I haven't done it myself. However I don't think you can go wrong with good old 3M film of the colour of your choice. You could even try carbon texture, that's at least worth exploring in Photoshop.

I hate my 2010 beak grill. Is that chrome center part removable? I’m thinking about modifying my grill and adding that to mine.

Yes, you can put the 2007-2009 grille on yours, but not without modding it to fit

Now that I'm thinking about your work.. Has come back to my mind these rubber portions of the bumpers, mine are getting like whitish.. I don't know if you understand me. this is actually dope and it comes off easily but what about rocks chipping it off

Last application lasted about 4 years before it started chipping away. This one did not last a year and started chipping, because I used extremely old (8 yo) plasti dip from my old stored box, which kind of expired, so it did not hold up as well as before. I’ve already got new cans and will redo this in the spring.

Did you plasti dip your wheel too? If so how long does last?

Yes, I did. It lasted about 4 years before they started peeling. And another 2 years after that before I took them for powder coating.

I hear it happens sometimes. Since plasti dip will conform to whatever surface it’s put on, bubbling will have to be dealt with first. From what I understand, it’s some sort of a tape. May be try leveling it?

@@AcuraAddicted yeah I was worried plasti dip will just make it look worse. Oh well.... Must be the heat around here, I see many MDXs with my same issue.

I’m guessing in your case you’re going to have to replace that tape with another layer. I would probably go for “carbon” or something along those lines. Because getting the grille replaced is pretty costly.

same issue. I guess you might need to inject some epoxy with a syringe (making a tiny hole) to get it back to stick... have not looked into replacement film otherwise... curious what others have done

**edit holy shit man you pull the masking WHILE ITS WET do not wait for it to dry or you will peel it. everything in here is ass backward for paint not dip** not sure if youve changed tactics by now but this is plastidip my friend not paint you dont have to lay it on like that you can go fairly thick first coat and dont and shouldnt be far away or youll get texture. Thick wet coats up close for good results.

Thanks for the tips! The plasti dip I used was about 6 years old and spraying quite poorly, hence the measures I had to take. Note that I do not do this professionally and have only applied plasti dip twice in my life, so no practice for me. As they say "it ain't much, but it's honest work", haha.

@@AcuraAddicted lol that makes a lot more sense I apologize for the rawness of my first comment I was like wait no.. no, no. A lot of people have a bad taste for dip and normally they do what you did and it comes out poorly making them think this. I agree old dip is terrible to spray lol
