Because of Obamacare, I was able to take early retirement and help my elderly mother take care of my father whom had dementia. We were able to keep him in his own home where he died peacefully. I wish Republicans like Kinzinger and Cheney would expose Trump’s (& other GQP Republicans’ lies) that the Democrats are trying to get rid of the Patient Protection Act that is a key part of Obamacare! It’s a FACT that 25 “red” State Attorney Generals have a lawsuit on the docket before the US SCOTUS declaring the PPA is “unconstitutional”. Trump signed on to it and was trying to fast track it through SCOTUS before he was forced to evacuate the WH. The GQP are toadies to big money interests and vote accordingly.

I don't have to agree with their views on policy to see they are principled people. I am a Center-Left Independent and appreciate those Republicans like Adam Kinzinger that are Center-Right. The Republican Party totally needs the Center-Right from the former Republican Party to create a new Centrist Party (call it Democratic-Republicans). Trump's Republican Party is so far right and so authoritarian and so willing to put politics and power above our County and my fellow Citizens that it is no longer recognizable as even an American Party. Hopefully Kinzinger and what few moderate Republicans that are left can either take back the GOP or more likely form a new Party that can speak for the true old-school Republicans.

Joe Biden just thumbed his nose at a SCOTUS ruling and announced he's going to buy votes for student debt forgiveness, regardless of what the courts say. He refuses to secure the border even though polls show even most Democrats want this. When the teacher's union complained about parents showing up at school board meetings to protest, Biden broke the law by using the FBI to fly helicopters over school board meetings in an effort to threaten and intimidate his political opponents. How is all this authoritarian stuff happening right now and you don't see it???

Adam Kinzinger always has such well thought out and interesting things to say. My grandparents raised me; one was a Republican and one was a Democrat. They always went together to vote in every single election and would laugh as they went out the door about how they were going to "cancel each other out." As a result I have always respected both parties and what a lesson in democracy.

Representative Kinzinger, you are honorable and a true modern day patriot. I thank you for your work. I have spent 10 years in public office in a small, high profile village in NYS. 2011-19, Then 2022-July 2024 in an independent party, registered Dem. I've lived through this bizarre, almost sudden, change in politics. I, too, feel like a political refugee at times. I do take my duties to the by-laws, State Constitution, and U.S. Constitution beyond seriously. It's frustrating to watch this new wave of fame seekers who aren't considering the law in their decisions and actions. I wish you all the best. Keep the faith.

If we got rid of parties and voted on policy, which is what ACTUALLY matters any way, no one would be “homeless,” and people could vote for what they believe in instead of focusing on whether someone is a Republican or Democrat. I believe wholeheartedly that the sane majority of Americans all want the same things, and the terms Democrat and Republican are getting in the way of seeing that.

If people understood our tax money needs to go somewhere, I do believe most people would rather it go to healthcare than to the already billions of dollars paid to defense and to tax cuts for the ultra rich and for corporations. But we don’t even have a chance to find out, because we aren’t voting on policy. The delusional people who still support the current Republican Party will vote for them regardless of how much they lie, and, hopefully, the vast majority of us will vote Democrat if for no other reason than to keep Republicans out of office. Then, maybe, we have a chance to change how our politics work.

@@sandrap.7504 I appreciate your wishes, but they are not realistic for a democracy of millions of diverse peoples. The Constitution intended to give everyone a voice in the way of a successful government of the people, by the people and for the people. However, there are necessary guard rails needed to maintain a stable government which requires compromise. Today, the conservative Republican party does not compromise and appears to know only how to rule, like the kings of England, with authority.

Not really, there generally IS no "left" in America, it's ALL pretty conservative, even Bernie Sanders would be considered solidly _centrist_ in the EU for example. Most of the world's liberal democracies, are also far more secular, the US is considered _extremely_ religious, look at it this way, the "left" in America wants to give you healthcare and free college tuition, the "right" wants to take all of your freedom away, the choice could not be more simple.

The entire problem with a market-based approach to healthcare, the problem with the "conservative" viewpoint at its foundation, is that the market for non-elective healthcare has inelastic demand. They're claiming to be the party that understands economics, but they fail to grasp even this simple reality. How much would you pay to walk again, to see again, to live more than the next few months, or to allow your baby to survive a horrible illness? Everything you have and more. Capitalism will not function in markets with inelastic demand. There's no decrease in demand when you increase prices. Since Capitalism is entirely based on this relationship, trying to use it to regulate the healthcare industry is madness. Fortunately, we have an effective solution: by grouping demand in to pools, the larger the better, we can use collective bargaining in order to set fair pricing, and arrive at an equitable distribution of goods and services among the public. And the main reason that Republicans continuously, belligerently fail to understand this is because they're being paid not to understand this. Stop the madness.

As a child growing up in NYC lived 5 houses away from Donald. Every Friday I paid him to deliver my grandfathers news paper. If I knew what a monster he would grow up to become I could have stopped him at the front door. I don't think a 10 year old can be convicted of manslaughter. Since I couldn't stop him then I can make sure to not vote for him now and stop him today. Join me in preventing a mistake that can't be undone.
