The Barra engine is legendary down in Australia. The 4.0L inline six in a lot of ways is a larger displacement 2JZ in a nutshell. So what happens when Adam LZ had an unfortunate situation with his Voodoo 5.2 V8 in his Shelby GT350? He replaced one insane Ford engine for another. The GT350 is a fast car on its own, but this Barra powered GT350 makes 900HP with 900 foot pounds of torque! Adam is still working out the kinks in the car - which makes this thing even MORE terrifying. This is easily one of the scariest cars I've ever driven, and for good reason.

I believe it... my lord. You have to pedal this beast & hold on. It's the bunking bronco of the car world. 1/4 mile in like 8 seconds, provided you can hold on that long. And the vibration, it'll either fix every kink in your body or shake you apart. Astonished parts not falling off this thing. It's just so angry, which scares me. Way to be a trooper by keeping this behemoth on the road. I'd like to think not many would have the skill-set to do so.

If you ever make the trip down under, I’ve got a 1000hp, manual fg falcon I’d be more than happy to hand you the keys to. Similar setup to Adams mustang engine wise, but in a full size full weight sedan

With how many modified cars you've driven over the years David, it's impressive to see when a car actually gives you a hard time on the street. Now more than ever I really want to see this car finished up and driving proper.

one of the most amazing engines is coyotes and coyote variants. This is a swap for views and clout the same reason emelia hartford just put the big block big blower ford engine in her s550. There is no reason to do a Barra or big block ford when the coyote or its other variations like the voodoo from the gt350 or predator from the gt500 can make loads of power. A Mustang gt or Ford f150 with the coyote can both make up to1200whp and run 7s (mustang gt) 8s f150 with a built trans boost and fuel. They killed the great handling and what makes the gt350. AdamLz wont drive this thing and has actually talked about going back to a v8. Even LS guys are pulling there engines and going coyote. Ford basically perfected the dohc v8 with the coyote. Voodoo is good but to make big power its better to get rid of the fpc . Him and Emilia couldve spent a fraction of the money and made up to 1200whp with no heads no cams no pistons no rods. stock sealed coyote. built with the money this barra and emelias big block costs. you can make up to 2500hp with the factory block that came in this car and Emilias and it would atleast keep what makes these cars without making them a sloppy mess. Look at the fastest Domestic stick H pattern stick shift car. Its a s197 boss mustang that Joel Steele drove to work. Now its the first domestic h pattern car in the 6s in the 1/4 with a factory coyote block. its competitors has billet blocks they swap after every run. auto coyotes go 5s and 6s. Its like a 2 vtech dohc 4 cyl welded together. how can you beat that.

@@carculturenation2166 to be fair, it's not always about the power. I'm not certain what the goal of this build was, but a Barra is by far a less common setup in the states and is therefore sorta neat for just that reason. I'd love to swap an Izusu P'up or something with a 12A or carbed 13B, not because it'd be more powerful but just because it'd be neat. Again, I'm not certain what he's building this car for, so maybe a Barra makes zero sense in this situation. I'm not sure. Guess my point is just that it's not always about power.
@xbgtfella
@xbgtfella 2 жыл бұрын
Pity they didnt make it to the states. Id love to have seen how the US aftermarket would have embraced this platform. They have billet alloy barra blocks in Oz now for a smidge over AUD 5k so the barra lives on.

@@carculturenation2166 some people just want something different. The car burned down to the ground and was going to be a rebuilt title anyway. If he throws in a voodoo it’s just a rebuilt title GT350. If he throws in a Coyote it’s just a GT350 with a GT motor. The Barra makes it something unique, which makes it something special.

I don't know what this says more about. The Barra, or Straya... I'll just assume it's a bit of both. I once saw a Florida man build a whack burnout car, with a gigantic supercharger top hat... He went to Straya and fit right in. Now, if you crazy A-holes can accommodate a Florida man? I know ya'll have got a bare minimum of anywhere from a couple, to a few loose screws in the ole dome pieces. Now, there ain't nothin wrong with that, quite the contrary in fact. I don't care much for a guy who's got all his bolts torqued down to spec. As long as you torque *the right bolts,* that's what matters.
@UltraMagnis
@UltraMagnis 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielnelson4881 ha Australia is a country of Florida men mate....we have a lot of loose units that's for sure. It's so bad we have a hooning task force and special laws for using cars inappropriately 🤣🤣🤣. They are ridiculous but there is a small % of hyper loose units who ruined it for the rest of us. The cops use to leave us alone as long as we were somehwere that couldn't cause property damage. Then people started going a bit crazy and filming all their crazy shite. Caused the governement to step in. So the fact they can get a car with 1500hp registered is a feat unto itself. Lots of "favours" by mates in the industry. And yes cleetus is always welcome :)

Wait I thought (from mcm) that you can only slightly modify cars in Australia, engine swaps can also only be lightly modified, etc. Then any major build can't get registered. I can't remember which video I got that from but yeah lol.
@UltraMagnis
@UltraMagnis 2 жыл бұрын
@@dan_lazaro this is true yes, it is a process that's for sure. You need a modification plate for any major mods you do to the car. So you can engine swap and go crazy with it but you need an engineer to go over it and make sure it's road legal. Once done you get a blue plate that they rivet to the fire wall so it's legal. There are some guidelines but it also comes down to "favours" being done for these type of cars. I had a 700hp supra with a 2jz swap in it and it was 100% legal but I also knew blokes with absolutely illegal cars that were registered because they knew someone who could fudge the paper work. It's actually a under the table business here in Australia happens a lot. Our mod laws are stupid, and the police are all mostly clueless so you can get away with it if you hide it well enough. They are starting to train their officers though but unless you grew up building cars like a lot of us have we know more then they do the majority of the time so we can prepare for the inevitable defect pull over. You just need to hide stuff basically and know someone to fudge all the paperwork like road worthies and engineering certs etc.

Geez I wish you could drive an Australian Ford Falcon that this amazing engine was really designed for .. The engine is a game changer to the point that many V8 dedicated guys here in Australia switched to it after experiencing it .. The Falcon from the 2002 BA to the final 2016 FGX had this engine as well as the naturally aspirated Barra .. My XR6 Falcon is one of them and she has the ZF 6 speed sequential option or you can switch to standard auto auto .Even the NA goes really well and like the turbo has really strong low end torque from about 2500 rpm . The turbo goes to another level though...If you ever make it to Australia track down a Falcon with the Barra Turbo ...either a XR6T or an F6 ...unreal cars to drive .. Great video ...

The Barra is great for racing particularly Drag and Drift as you can destroke it and increase the rpm’s considerably. They are also great for a swap in a 4WD for off-roading particularly going up sand dunes etc.

Had my xr6t ute since brand new 2008. Gave it a birthday a couple years ago -respray, new slightly bigger intercooler kit full stainless exhaust turbo back upgraded the throttle body piping and a set 1000cc injectors the ole falcon gets up and boogies with around 400bhp at the wheels My first barra was a BA1 xr6t 03 bought it for $39k. It was a snappy little ute 4 speed BTR box it was fun chirping it 1st to 2nd flat in auto. A shame they stopped making the XR6T in 2016 205k klms on the FG and I’ll get another 200k plus

The Barra engine in the US would have crushed the V8 Mustang. And also the Aussie Ford Falcon being a fast four door would have stole sales from a lot of Ford US’s cars. Quite sad tho, as we don’t have car manufacturing here in Aus anymore. It really would have been great to see new falcons and commodores (badged as Holden’s) in the US.

I admit it is a badass engine for sure but crushing the coyote is maybe a little much lol. I'm well aware what they do and what they're capable of. They are very good engines and they sound sick for a 6.

@@midnight347 It has been putting Chevy LS and Ford Boss motors to shame since 2002. It needs little money invested to make power. Australia has some of the best V8 cars in the world yet it’s a common consensus in the car community here that the Barra is the best all round engine for most builds. 4x4, drift cars, fast street cars. You name it. Lifelong V8 Ford fans switched to Barra Turbos. Holden/Chevy people came over to the Ford brand just to own a Barra Turbo. We agree to disagree on this one my man.

this was how my XR6 turbo Ute was like with stock suspension and stock ford 9" on leaf springs 900nm torque probably boost creeping to like 1200+.. barra's you shouldn't need the higher RPMs as much unless you wanna drift, most of all the torque is in the low to midline. massage the throttle an just hold the wheel for dear life while countering the bump steer lol. you should be able to wheel stand it if you feather in the throttle politely enough 😆

I believe the biggest problem with this car is the mismatch between the gearbox and the engine. It should not be that hard or rough for the box to change gears and when it does change, the car becomes unstable - and the vibrations. The sudden re-engaging of the full torque of the Barra is getting the chassis out of shape. I have not looked into what shifting technology is used with the PPG in this car, but, it just isn't any good. Most of the Barra Falcons with 1500-2000HP (at the hubs) run autos, some continue with worked, factory, ZF 6 speeds but others just go to the Turbo 400 with custom converter. Given the car is in the states, the Turbo 400 would be a good line to investigate, the torque curve is certainly wide enough. Things can be done to get around the sway bar issue, it might take a bit of lateral thought, but there is usually a way. The other problem is the weight distribution, the Barra is heavy but not THAT heavy, the length is more an issue - is there too much engine weight over the front suspension? - combined with the violent torque delivery, that would certainly cause serious stability problems. I think too much time has been spent on the engine and not enough on the rest of the car, especially the suspension. BUT, I would not give up, anyhow how many Barra powered Mustangs are there in the USA, why follow all the sheep, go a different way... and hunt the sheep!
