Adam is obessed with his new 3D printer, and the first build he takes on with it is a set of miniature Ghostbusters Proton Packs to go inside his 1/6 scale Ecto-1 model! Using files for a pack and neutrona wand he found online, Adam prints the models and outfits them with a scratch-built brass Alice frame, wiring, and room for lights! He couldn't be happier with how these adorable mini packs turned out!

What I love about watching makers like Adam is how it opens your mind to different ways to accomplish tasks. My head went straight to 'those are easy 3D model modifications and he can just print them new.' Adam's ability to just jump in and modify the parts with his tools and skills is another perfectly good solution!

I think Adam takes the right approach for someone who’s still somewhat new to really using 3D printing as a maker. (I know he’s done it for a while, but I’m talking about depth of experience) Lots of enthusiasts know a million ways to improve prints, tweak them without remodeling them to make subsequent work easier, get faster print times or better quality, etc. but there’s SOOO many variables that it’s overwhelming for most people who don’t already know that stuff. It’s much better to let them learn at their pace, offer advice when they ask for it or suggest little tips here and there. But railing “you should have done it this way” really doesn’t encourage people to get deeper into it most of the time.

I think for someone so used to using other processes, 3D Printing is great for helping you spend time on what you want. If that makes sense. Do you want to be spending the time to build out that whole scale pack with milling whatever material? Or building it from PVC and vacuforming and cleaning all all that up? Or would you rather spend your time painting and weathering and adding effects. I think for some ppl, and sometimes Adam, they would rather use the techniques they are used to because they enjoy them and the process. But sometimes having something that gets you 80% there's lets you spend much more time doing the more desirable part of the build.

One thing I know that printers are great for is Greeblies!!! You keep saying you can't get enough and with supports turned on and orientations to force more of them it will also make longer prints. Find a nice benchie to print in an ' incorrect ' orientation that you can later use as a greebles just to look at the different options for supports. Even Rafts can become something else with planning and happy accidents!. Loved watching the build, not trying to detract, that said headphone cables are out there for cheap, woven cloth covered and there are some tiny RGB surface mount LEDs that could potentially fit at the working end of the proton gun. The hard part is the enameled wire to the stock end and have the LED in the barrel at that scale. Please keep sharing the progress!

Adam's watch is a Seiko SKX009, for anyone curious. It's an iconic automatic 200M diver's watch that was introduced in 1996 and led to a huge resurgence of interest in automatic watches and "divers" in particular, where it and its variants became big in the watch-modding scene. It's no longer made and has been replaced by the SRPD-series watches, which aren't quite the same, but very similar. Adam's appears to have the stock "jubilee" bracelet. It's a great "everyday" tool watch, and I'm glad to see Adam flying the Seiko flag.
