Prim is so heartbreaking because it's the textbook of Doomed By the Narrative. Every single choice Katniss makes was to protect Prim, and it's never enough - she was dead before the story even started. There was no choice Katniss could have made differently that would have saved her. It was the very first scene we saw in the books. Katniss, reaching across the bed for Prim, but the bed is cold and empty. There was no version of the story where Prim could have been saved. If Katniss hadn't volunteered for her, she would have died in the games. But by volunteering she inevitably starts the rebellion that ultimately increases Prim's danger and the target on her. If Katniss had faltered or hesitated or failed to act exactly as she does during the rebellion at any time during, Prim would have died. There's no version of the story where Prim survived. She was dead when the story began. It's a perfect Doomed By the Narrative.

It will forever devastate me that all of this started because Katniss volunteered to play the games to save Prim, and in the end, she couldn't keep Prim safe.

Katniss only voted for the new Hunger Games as she wanted a chance to kill Coin, she didn't actually want them to go ahead. That's why Haymitch followed her lead. Also, Katniss was going to take the suicide pill herself, not give it to Snow!

From what I've heard, the kiss between Effie and Haymitch was improvised by Woody. Probably why it seemingly came out of nowhere 😆

@Sytrylt 11 ай бұрын
Actually Gale was right. The kiss she gave Peeta on the beach in the quarterquel was true and not part of the show. In the books when she kisses him on that beach, her though tells us that she feels something when kissing him, a hunger for more. She doesn't know what it is, or doesn't thunk about love or anything else than saving Peeta in that game, after that their is the war... but that Kiss Gale mention is really important in the end. And he saw it too apparently 😅😅

I don't think it's explained in the movies, but in the books, people/animals that are tortured and twisted/modified by the Capitol are called "mutts". And it's considered an insult, I think? It's also why Peeta (in the tunnels) knew that the baddies were coming, because he was picking up on the mind control/call of the Capitol on their "mutts".

The scene with Katniss & Peeta's kids is meant to be about 15 or so years later. Katniss & Peeta are roughly in their mid 30s here.

The most tragic character of entire Hunger Games is Johanna !! You should see videos on her. She has most tragic life even after the end ❤

Unpopular Take: in reference to Lieutenant Jackson, reactors tend to give her way too much hate. Looking at things from her perspective, she was second-in-command to Boggs & their unit had been assigned a specific mission. Jackson was doing her job & after Boggs' untimely demise in the Capitol, she was responsible for keeping their unit on track. Sure, pulling the gun on them may have seemed rash & threatening but it makes sense in the context. The reality is, Jackson (if she survived) is the one who would have to answer to their superiors if anything went awry. No one else would be held responsible. Katniss, on the other hand, was the one who decided to go rogue to kill Snow. She knowingly deceived her entire unit about her true intentions so she could get revenge on Snow (little did she know they already suspected). Which is understandable, & we as an audience are partial to Katniss as the ones who are witnessing her story, but it doesn't change the fact that Katniss knowingly dragged her unit into her revenge mission & risked the lives of her fellow soldiers in the process, which resulted in those specific deaths. Katniss should have transferred security clearance to Jackson but for the sake of the plot, that didn't happen - she just chose to gaslight her instead. Yet in spite of all this, Jackson was a good soldier & a team player who remained clear-headed & rational. She chose to put her ego aside for the sake of helping Katniss, despite knowing that Katniss lied to her face. She remained loyal to her fellow soldiers & looked out for them as best she could under the circumstances, right up until her death. I doubt most people would be so generous under those circumstances. Jackson may not have been the most prominent character but she was a real one like Boggs, Finnick, Cressida, Pollux & a few of the others. She was also a lot more empathetic, understanding, selfless & way less reckless than characters like Gale (was never a fan of him). She deserves more recognition. #jacksondeservedbetter

In the books, there is a second time the mutts gather and she is one of two soldiers who stay behind on purpose to buy time for everyone else. She knows Katniss is lying too.

@@gailseatonhumbertin the movies yeah, but in the books that was her unit. She didn’t sneak off in the books she was assigned to 451 and went with them to the Capitol. She had to train and pass tests to join a squad. Her and Johanna trained together, but Johanna failed her test because of her torture and was left behind in the hospital at 13.

Oh so the kids at the end that Katniss and Peeta have are significant. In the books, she was always adamant about not having kids because she didn't want them going through the Hunger Games.

@@allisongrinnell5107no that’s a bad take. Peeta didn’t force her to have kids. He wanted kids but never said anything or pressured her. He’s never been that type of person. She didn’t want kids because she couldn’t have them live in world like this. She was scared for many years even after the war but when she finally felt safe, it became something she could finally consider. Her having children is a symbol of hope that this is a safer world for children that she’s helped create.

Just watched all your HGs reactions and think you're great 😅 it's one of my favourite series, but it's so tragic at times and even the ending is bittersweet. Finnick was one of my favourite characters (book version was better imo. Films did a good job for the most part but Finnick was more present in Mockingjay book version. He became such a close friend to Katniss and he kinda did in the films but he was just more in the books. Like everything is really). Still, I cannot watch his death scene. He deserved so much more, just like many other characters did. Thank you for reacting to the series 😀

You asked if the squad being assigned to a site not on the front lines was how it was in the book: pretty much. Though there is more of a transitional period regarding Katniss being allowed to be part of the army at all. The Victors all have to train with the soldiers of 13 and ultimately pass a final test that is designed to play on their "biggest weakness." (For Katniss, that is her inability to follow orders like a soldier would but she realizes what they are testing and behaves accordingly. For Johanna it was her fear of water after being soaked and electrocuted for torture in the Capitol. She fails and isn't allowed in combat.) Then Katniss and Finnick are assigned to Boggs's "star squad" which is full of sharp shooters who are all upset they are being relegated to the rear. But I can see why the training was cut from the film, though I would've loved more of the Katniss and Johanna bonding. The only thing you really lose is knowing that Gale was already in with District 13's army and had been training with them since 12 was bombed, but I think most viewers get that without being told since he's more militaristic in his approach. I guess it makes Peeta's recovery seem more abrupt as well. Since he is still under observation but allowed to train with another group (not Katniss'). IIRC, he finds putting the guns together and taking them apart soothing, but it is still a surprise when he is on the field, because he wasn't as far along in training as Katniss and Johanna were. This is probably more information than anyone requires.

Hey Adam! I just thought you might be interested in knowing that a few months ago, Willow Shields (actress who plays Prim) was blackmailed over some private pictures, and they attempted to extort her using them as leverage. She then posted all the images they had attached on her Instagram, along with their message and one of her own. Just thought you would enjoy knowing that Prim stays on her Queen sh*t even all these years later.
