I find it amazing that *any* place in Beverly Hills could be abandoned!

Liza's stepmother was living here for many years after Vincente Minelli passed away. The will stated she would be allowed to stay there until her death or at Liza's expense at another place. The property wasn't maintained by her very well and Liza ended up moving her to another place. Liza put the house up for sale in 2000 and the stepmother complained to the courts and it wound up in the gossip magazines that Liza was not helping her and that the house was in shambles. Liza sold the house and had to pay the new owners rent for the stepmother to live there until she died in 2009. The new owners made plans to tear the house down and rebuild a Mediterranean style home, but it was rejected by the Beverly Hills Planning Commission. Then plans were set to restore the home, but those plans have not been completed. Some cleanup is reported, but nothing significant recently.

Met up with Minnelli in 1982 at his home. Everywhere was immaculate. Had afternoon tea with him in the upstairs room at the top of the stairs, served with a silver tea service. Remember him saying...”I’ll be mother”.as he poured. Such a really nice person. The room was covered in bookshelves, with photos and paintings he’d done, on the walls. Flowers from Liza on the table with a card saying’Happy Birthday Daddy”. He told me his scarab ring was from Elizabeth Taylor. Spent hours with him discussing acting. I’d been acting previously in London with Peter O’Toole in his company at The Old Vic theatre.(I’m British with a Green Card.). Minelli was getting forgetful as he had called a day earlier to say he was waiting for me....got the days mixed up. As I was leaving he invited me back, but unfortunately I never took him up on the invite. Met up with Fred Astaire some time later in Beverly Hills and they were both very similar...just ordinary people, gracious and humble...but with awesome reputations. Remember that Fred Astaire hadn’t shaved and had ear wax hanging from one ear. They were the Real Hollywood, unlike the ‘ here today...gone tomorrow’ ‘Stars’ of today. Really fortunate to have known the giants of the ‘industry’ from the Oliviers to Bette Davis. You’ll NEVER see their likes again. It’s now.... SHOW ..BUSINESS.

Would have loved to watch this but the camera was moving so much it made me dizzy, so I had to stop.

that paper on the wall.. those records... this is heaven to me... There's no way I'd set foot in there without knowing every bit of history attached to it... which room belonged to who.. who sat where and did what... favorite hiding places.. this place is beautiful

Very surprise to see you minimal vandalism, and I was surprised to see the house wasn't stripped for the copper.

Adam, I love your work but this is about the third video of yours that I've tried to watch and had to give up on. Too many choppy cuts, and you pan the camera as though its actually someone looking at stuff. We need time for the camera to adjust, so we can see what its actually looking at.

Thank you for this fascinating journey! The architecture and the furniture still there was a trip back in time! The old vinyl records reminds me of a time when some things in life were simpler and people directly connected face to face or voice to voice via telephone with each other. Amazing you could just walk right in, and also amazing that there were ANY articles and items still there from 1982 (magazine) and earlier, that's really amazing...I can just imagine how happy a homeless person would be to squat there! Usually if there's a sheltered place to go they'll find it and many will take ANYTHING especially because it's from a famous persons home.

I have walked past this place often. So sad what happened to it. We need to preserve our past better than this.

I cant decide which is harder to believe, how easy it was for you to enter the property and steal whatever you like (yes even that shrink wrapped Dean Martin album on the record shelf) or why the place has not been secured from squatters or thrill seekers from entering. I'm surprised it has not burnt down!

wish you would fill us in more about the "sad story". Looking at an abandoned house without a story makes this video dull to watch.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Unbelievable the drapes and green velvet sofa are still there not damaged or stolen. Amazing to create your own story with lots to spike ones imagination, spooky yet sad tones. Wish I'd have visited it when I was there in the 90's mind the old lady may have still been in residence sat in the dark.

I find this vid a pretty apt metaphor for Hollywood itself, tbqh... what once appeared glitzy and glamorous, is, in fact, rotten and decrepit to the core.

This is cool to see but I wish you had told the story of WHY it was abandoned.

Wish I could take this beautiful place, turn it around to its original beauty and splendor- This is a piece of MGM history that should be preserved and not abandoned.

You guys really should have done a little research into those peoples lives BEFORE you went thru the house. You really act dumb and so disrespectful to the former owners. I don't know how long Judy Garland lived there but I guess you have no idea how successful 'The Wizard of Oz' was and still is an American Icon and very BIG part of our American Heritage. You could have talked a little more instead waiting til many minutes into this. It's like you just stumbled on this rather famous mansion with a camera and didn't know much about that place, you have to remember there are a wide variety of viewers here on yt.. Act decent, provide details and hide the tattoos(must be an LA thing,lol) Now that it's being remodeled you can't go back, you blew a great opportunity. I give the video a grade of D+, sorry fellas.

That "red sand" is/was carpet padding...that old type pad dry rots and disintegrates into fine particles...

Curious as to why it has been abandoned? With it's heritage, you would think someone would purchase, and, restore it.

Got halfway through the video and that was enough. Too much quick shot editing, which makes trying to get a 'feel' of the place nearly impossible. It's like being interrupted constantly mid-thought.

I think that red sand was once carpet underlay padding, it's just disintegrated with age.

Back in '74, being so overwhelmed by Liza in Cabaret, I drove up to the mansion and walked over to Minnelli himself who was in the driveway in the process of petting his cat. He barely knew that me and my sister were standing there. Frankly, I think the guy was vegging out, (Alzheimers) mentally even way back then. I said more than a few words to him, and he ignored me completely, only talking baby talk to his cat.

Crazy that Minnelli's album collection was still there 28 years after he died in that house.

Amazing Beverly Hills hasn’t condemned it and raised it and sold the property for past taxes.

My wife and I were out there last month and drove past it and it was in the process of being remodeled.

Great property. Built in the 1920's in the French Regency style. It stands (or stood, as the case may be) on the junction between West Sunset Boulevard and North Crescent Drive. Appears larger than it actually was - hard to believe that it was only 3 bedroom and all were interconnecting, which is unusual. All rooms in the house were a decent size, though, especially the main reception rooms. Love that large retro projection TV in the dining room. Wonder what brand it was? Possibly an Hitachi?The Minnellis had good musical taste too; I noticed Paul Weston's 'Music for Romanicng', 'The Shearing Piano', and Dean Martin's 'You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You' among those LPs upstairs.

Wow! You have come a long way!

The house seen in this video is definitely the former home of Vincent Minnelli and his wife after his divorce with Judy Garland. He passed away in 1998. Leaving his estatoows to daughter Liza. Although the estate was left to Liza, there was a provision in his will for his wife to live in the house as long as she wished. Liza wanted her to relocate to another house or condo. She on the other hand chose not to move. At one point she had a lawsuit against Liza for elder abuse breach of contract etc. Which was eventually dropped. She live in the home until her death in 2003 i believe. The house was then sold..buyer remains anonymous. There the house has sat . Falling into sad disrepair. I live in palm springs and travel to los angeles to see my general practitioner monthly. A friend of mine who knows the area well, drove into Beverly Hills . The house sits on a corner lot off Sunset Blvd. On the opposite corner is the famed Beverly Hills Hotel. The property is prime real estate. Built in 1925 and remodeled in the 1960s. Its a sad sad situation that this once elaborately maintained estate has fallen into such disrepair. We actually were bold enough to enter the property through a seperation in the fence in front. Its a very busy intersection and we went unnoticed into the house. The front door was wide open . We went around the side and entered through the pool area. Its definitely been well traveled by many people. Its in sad disrepair . A lot of household items appliances remain throughout. To see the the architectural digest photo shoot and to see the same drapery and wallpaper now some 30 years is very sad to say the least. It would be amazing for the owner of this property to restore it. It seems that it is in limbo..lost in time.

When did you take this? The January 2011 Google street view shows it being worked on. There are work trucks and construction dumpsters. There is signs of activity all the way up to the present street view June 2015.

Liza sold the property in 2006, but Lee Minelli still lived there till she died in 2009. So whomever owns the place just hasn't done anything with it yet.

Wow, I've seen a few videos of this old house and it always saddens me to see the poor shape it is in. It's too bad that Liza despised her step mother so much, I wonder what she ever did to Liza? I guess if you have a lot of money you really don't have to care what happens to the house you grew up in! Thanks for sharing.

All our homes that we live in right now are also going to meet the same fate. Adam Woos of next generations are going to film our decayed out abandoned houses using google glass or some shit.

Adam the Woo , I still like watching this vlog . I think it's one of your best vlog's and one of the coolest places you have ever found . It still makes me think it's such a shame that it has been left for Intruders and probably drug addicts to destroy it . This is old Hollywood history and I wish they would come back restore it .

I watch several different people who go through abandoned buildings. I had a really hard time with yours because you move your camera so quickly and spin around rooms rather than slowly taking the whole room in for the viewer. It's very haphazard and hard for the viewer to focus in well. Please go a little slower when painting rooms. Also would like to see the details of the architecture or items more than goofiness, but that's just my opinion.
