Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar today flagged off the first indigenously manufactured Drishti 10 'Starliner' Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for the Navy. The sophisticated, state-of-the-art UAV marks a significant step towards strategic autonomy and technological leadership in high-endurance, combat-proven, and indigenized advanced aerial systems. Drishti 10 'Starliner' is an advanced Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform with 36 hours endurance, 450 kgs payload capacity, the only all-weather military platform with STANAG 4671 certification, and clear to fly in both segregated and unsegregated airspace. "This is a momentous occasion and a transformative step in India's quest for self-reliance in ISR technology and maritime supremacy. Adani Group has demonstrated its commitment to unmanned systems having worked systematically over the last many years to develop local capabilities not limited to manufacturing but sustenance through MRO. Drishti 10's integration into our naval operations will enhance our naval capabilities, strengthening our preparedness for the ever-evolving maritime surveillance and reconnaissance," Admiral R Hari Kumar said.

Drishti 10 drone is israel's Harmes 900 drone assembled by Adani in India, not with India's R and D, just assembly... Archer NG is still in progress and planning to make first flight in mid 2024, but Tapas is finished...

@@Red.bulldozer3Most of the critical component, software and material are patented by elibit. Since adani and elibit are in jv. Adani was able to use those. But drdo is buliding everything form scratch. Drdo can use these research and development for other uav or weapons system if needed. Adani can't they have require permission for elibit system.

@Red.bulldozer3 That's not their job. Assembly is not their remit. Even for products that are approved, they don't do production. If India didn't have a drone program at the DRDO, even if it hasn't been successful so far, we would not be getting these types of offers for joint production in India.

The Drishti 10 drone is assembled version of Hermes 900 of Israel, it is not indigenous... Tapas whose development was stopped was indigenous drone. Next indigenous drone in making is Archer NG....Adani is Manufacuring the drone with license...Adani does not have any R and D capacity to develop, test and certify a drone of this nature from scratch...

Adani builds military drone in 6 months under assemble in India scheme 🙂. Imports knocked down kits from Israel assembles them with a screwdriver and then exports them back to show export revenue. This is where "Aatmanirbharata" stands today . Hope these companies move up the value chain a little more faster at least in one area.

@@Ragameiste : What does this have to do with Modi? Indigenization of the Indian Defence sector has been a goal since the late 1980s. It's been renamed "Make in India" in NDA1 and now "Aatmaniorbharata" in NDA2. LCA , Arjun Tank , and the Missile program have been fairly successful but it takes a LOT of time . This example by Adani is a sham.

I do not see any real development happening without specialized companies doing one thing really well. These Indian dynastic companies, where one son runs the Biscuit business and the other son runs cooking oil, cannot have the same success as Boeings and the Airbuses like ever. Yes, they can make sugar-laden biscuits and wheat flour, but designing aircraft, electronics, or original pharmaceuticals needs a totally different breed of company.

@@498Afighter Your disparaging remarks are enough to infer where your loyalties are. I am not sure why you are after Adani. Did he say that he indigenously developed this drone? This is a CKD altered for Indian conditions by Adani group and that is it. It has been incorporated after 10 months of MOU and that is a pretty good turn around time. If you are a pessimist then this is how things will be, else it is a collaborative beginning. BTW Elbit is now 44% partnered with Adani Defense. Another great partnership and now indigenous product is maruthi suzuki. India now makes air craft carriers and subs. Our pinaka missiles are exported to Armenia etc etc. We have some wins and hopefully this is a beginning. India is not an engineering power house and large sections of the masses have very little interest in technology especially outside of IT. So we have ways to go to develop the culture of practical science.

"Starliner" - sounds like a name more appropriate for a passenger-carrying aircraft (Boeing uses that name for its astronaut-carrying space capsule). We Indians seem to have a stubbornly poor grasp of english idiom to continually make such mistakes. Any way, why do we want it to be certified for use over NATO country areas? Are we planning to sell this weapon system to those who would use it against Russia? I don't think that's a good idea at all.

You people cannot ever go beyond politics, can you. After 12 years of continuous development and two crashes in between, TAPAS achieved half the specifications of this drone in terms of endurance ( 18 hrs vs 36 hrs), 2000 feet less height ( 28000 ft vs 30000 ft) and 100 kg less payload ( 350 kg vs 450 kgs). And even ADE admitted as much that there would need to be major redesign of TAPAS for it to reach the desired specifications meaning another 10 years of development. Our threat scenario did not support such delays.

This is Israeli Hermes 900 UAV . Basically Adani is purchasing knocked down kits of Hermes from Israel & reassembling them in India & selling it to Navy & making a neat margin for doing nothing but screwdriver works. All this was done after scrapping the DRDO Rustam project by Modi govt. . So "Atmanirbhar" my foot !!

This is literally an Israeli drone manufactured in India. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of defense knows this. The most indigenous thing here is probably the paint. This is probably what the actually indigenous Rustom II project was killed for instead of properly funding it. All so that Mota Bhai's brother gets yet another project. So much for Atmanirbharta ffs.

If this drone is made in India then JF17 is also made in Pakistan...Just assembling and making just the landing gear of the UAV doesn't make in made in India...Private industries have no intention to invest large in R&D, if that so, then many PC softwares would have made by TCS, Wipro and Infosys...These companies just want to collaborate with foreign OEM and assembling things in India...This is not true atmanirbhar Bharat, foreign countries won't give niche technology to this indian companies, they will only provide outdated one...Sole things remain is increase R&D budget in the country which is down to 0.6 % of GDP from 0.85% for several yrs ...US china Israel spending 3-4 % of GDP in R&D, that's why they are leading
