George Miller, the director, had his wife Margaret Sixel edit Mad Max: Fury Road. Miller said that she had never cut an action movie before, and he said if it was edited by "the usual kind of guys, it would look like every other action movie we see." She went on to win a Oscar for her editing work in the film. How amazing is that!

My favorite trivia about this movie is that while Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron did not get along well while shooting this movie, their stunt doubles definitely did. They ended up falling in love while filming Max and Furiosa's fight. And because Fury Road took so long to get through post production, their first child was born before the movie even made it to theaters.

Yeah i read a bit about it. Tom Hardy has a reputation for being tough to work with, according to a bunch of actors. Charlize Theron was always on time and ready to go, while Tom would often show up late. Charlize didn't hold back in calling him out for it, which caused some tension on set.

I was skeptical as to whether I would like it based on the first intro trailers, as I'm not much of a Mad Max fan, but I could appreciate the world and story. By the time the final trailer came out it was looking fantastic and I actually wanted to see it, which usually means it's going to be a great film. Was definitely impressed and loved it. in world lore that i love is the idea of vehicles and machinery as divinity. the reason they venerate Chrome is because its a world of rust and grime, while chrome is pure and clean, pristine. also, you can catch it in the background a few times especially early on, their prayer has them extend their fingers and cross them, and they tuck in their thumbs. this is to resemble the 8 cylinders of a V8 engine, while the clasped hands and thumbs make the engine block.
@LordVolkov
@LordVolkov 13 күн бұрын
Spraying their teeth makes a 'chrome grill' 😁 Love the layers of the V-8 cult in Fury Road (and Furiosa) that are told with barely any explanation. Nux has a deconstructed engine block scarred into his chest as schematic, they think of blood as fuel, their heaven is an eternal battle road... so many little details. Glorious worldbuilding!

This movie has a very tumultuous production history. From starting filming in 2001 to 9/11 halting filming due to the economic crisis afterwards, to recasting Mel Gibson because of controversies and age, to bad weather conditions causing the filming locations to be unusable, to actors straight up feuding with each other. There’s a book called Blood Sweat and Chrome, which details the rocky production of Fury Road from its conception. I highly recommend checking it out if you have the time.

The flamethrower guitar guy actually has the greatest name ever: Coma the Doof Warrior! (Shoutout to the replies for correcting me) Also, the music he and his drummers play, awesome as it is, does actually serve a purpose for the warband beyond motivation - the music signals the Immortan's orders to the other cars so they can stay in formation or change course on command. You can see an example when all the cars come to a stop during the nighttime sequence, he just strums a steady "holding pattern," to signal for the other cars to stop and wait.

Mad Max Fury Road is a film so heavy metal that it looked like an Iron Maiden video. The followers of the villain's cult (a name too complicated for me to remember) are the craziest thing in the film, including the band that I particularly liked. The women in this film, from the sweetest and most innocent to the most badass of all, were tough until the end and, as the film had a toe in Norse mythology, it makes sense that they would be like that. I loved it

One of the things the book talks about is how the studio almost shut the film down a few times, and then wanted to throw it all away when they saw the original edit. Can you imagine a world without this film?? Also, while I prefer the color version, there is a great "black & chrome" version of this film that well worth a watch if you can find it. I got to see it in a theatre and it was gorgeous. Now you really do need to see "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga". While it's not as good overall as MMFR - I mean, how could it be - it does a great job of telling Furiosa's story and you get to see the locations they talk about in this film, along with some of the characters. Anya Taylor-Joy was great but Chris Hemsworth is amazing in it. Great reaction, Addie. You have been WITNESSED!

@@mizrolist Up to a point, I agree. It is a prequel so that was my excitement in expanding the world and story. Mad Max, especially part 2 The Road Warrior, was a major inspiration for the Fallout games. Max is known as the Lone Wanderer, he travels with a dog, he is armed with a sawed off shotgun, he travels the Wasteland, and he is sometimes forced to help people he doesn't want to help. His "armor" from the second movie is the same armor you the player start with in the game, and in one of the games there is even an NPC you meet named Max who greets you with a sawed off shotgun.

The production on this film is incredible. Very little CGI was used. They literally built all these vehicles. The war rig is actually powered by two big V8s running in tandem. Making action sequences like this between moving vehicles with people jumping between vehicles while they're being destroyed and explosives are going off is just absolutely insane. They even built a functional flamethrower guitar for the Doof Warrior (the guitarist guy), which was apparently quite the feat of engineering. The film also does an incredible job with visual storytelling. Very little dialogue was needed, and much of it is bastardized English and Aussie slang that's hard to understand anyway.

5:22 - remember the buglers for US cavalry, or trumpeters in older armies? That is the guitarman's job. He plays music to pass on orders, keep morale going, etc. 18:05 , 18:14 (where he is having trouble motivating), 24:25 (to get everyone moving), 27:55 , 7:00 & 8:15 - if they die gloriously, witnessed by their fellow Warboys, then they will Mcfeast in Valhalla for eternity. 8:46 - the action just keeps getting bigger. Also notice how many cuts there are with the cameras and how little you notice them, as the action is kept in the center of the screen so your eyes don't have to wander trying to find it. 9:53 - once he regains conscious thought they can work together. Until then he just wanted the metal mask off and plenty of water. 16:38 - see the blood all over her leg, causing her to be weak? Thank Max at 10:39 18:58 - tells you how bad the future is, when a Warboy cannot recognize a tree 19:08 - Furiosa is an amazing shot 20:29 - he is pretty dangerous too 21:10 - free-range protein 23:16 - he is also talking about himself in that sentence 23:54 - Do Warboy Nux and Capable make a cute couple? 25:38 - the PeopleEater likes his food tenderized first 29:37 - Nux has come full circle. Instead of dying for his own glory, he did it for others. 30:29 - Max remembers he is human 31:09 - Max is more along the lines of a catalyst. He makes things easier for others, but does not take part afterwards. Furiosa would have accomplished her mission, but thanks to Max it was much easier.

This is 1 of at least 3 movies in 5 years where Tom Hardy had to wear something over his face/mouth for a stretch of the film. (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Dunkirk)

So glad you liked fury Road so much. There are so many subtle layers to the story, which initially just looks like a nonstop action movie. My favorite question that it asks is, what is religion? The Warboys are all dying of cancer, living a half-life, and Immortan Joe promises to take them personally to Valhalla, where they were live again, as long as they do his bidding.

Nux starts out as a unsympathetic antagonistic character that end up becoming the most sympathetic death by the end..its ALL Nicolaus hoults performance. He is soo childlike and wants someones,ANYONES approval!! At first it's immortan joe because he was born n raised to believe that his approval is all that matters..at the end he starts getting the approval and sympathy from the ppl he was raised to hate and look down upon, it's like the minute he experiences general kindness for the 1st time in his life and decided to hitch his wagon to their train lol.

I like the theory that the three warlords represent a version of the four riders of the apocalypse, Immortan Joe as Conquest/Pestilence, the People Eater as Famine and the Bullet Farmer as War. To complete the set, Max would be the Death as whereever he goes, death follows. Also he took out everyone in that night scene off-screen, which with there being so many enemies there seems highly unlikely. His constant visions of the people he couldn't save also could be interpreted as the dead he's carrying with him.

Interesting bit of trivia: Director George Miller was almost the director of DC’s Justice League but the writers strike happened and it killed the attempt. He had a whole cast ready, and two of them are in this movie: Hugh Keays-Byrne and Megan Gale, who would’ve played Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman.

I love the Fan theory that Imorten Joe, the People Eater, the Bullet Farmer and Max represent the four horsemen, Joe is pestilence, bullet farmer is war, people eater is famine and max is death, he even says at the beginning about running from the living and the dead. Max even goes off by himself and takes out the bullet farmer and all his men all by himself, bringing death to them. likely not canon but still an interesting idea

Intense/crazy movie. Love that they used alot of practical effects in this movie, but have a feeling the new one will be mostly CGI. Addie hope you'll watch the original three Madmax movies. I won't give spoilers but actor Hugh Keays- Byrne playing the head bad guy Immortan Joe in this film was also in the original 1979 Madmax as a different character. The first movie was made on a very low budget approx $350,000 us, and wasn't expected to become a success/franchise. The newest movie is a prequel as there can't be a sequel to Madmax Fury Road with both Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron because they apparently didn't get along and don't like each other. Movie Directors should really do chemistry tests between lead actors ahead of time to avoid that kind of situation .

I have never come out of a movie theater so simultaneously exhausted and pumped up. Yeah the whole thing is basically a 2 hour car chase with a few pit stops to catch your breath. Some of the best directors around commented on this movie that they have no clue how Miller was able to pull this off. The amount of planning and the time in the desert and all of those extremely real vehicles which they built and drove and did real stunts on. One thing you don't really catch on first viewing is how few words there really are and yet how much character info we get. Also, how insanely good at using the camera to keep us understanding the action. During the motorcycle jumps in the canyon, you'll have a shot where the bike enters from left going to the right and the shot will change to an opposite view for the next bike and it enters from the right and we cut as it is in the center to the next bike which comes from the center. He uses the action on screen to move your eyes into place for where the action will be in the next shot. He is literally directing the audience on where to look to not get lost in the insanity. That is next level action direction. It is why despite how rapid and fast paced all of the action is, you don't feel lost. It flows smoothly from one shot to the next keeping you focused on where the action is.

There's a 4 part comic book series that gives a backstory to Nux and why he was given that name. Also a backstory to Immortan Joe (the scary guy), and of course to Furiosa. Also a backstory to the creation of the War Rig. The story begins after the events of "Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome". And "Fury Road" is no.2 in my view of the greatest film of the 21st century (after The Dark Knight).
