In this video, I'll demonstrate the use of a new kind of electrical connector - well I'm not sure how new it is really, but it's new to me. I've showed them once before and that generated a lot of interest, so here I will install a few in real time for all to see (including an out-take at the end).
To buy these in bulk and save some money, try www.posi-products.com

Haven't built a layout for my closet filled with trains, but this will definitely be a product I buy and a video I will come back to when the time comes.

Like the speed factor!. I do prefer the spade, forks and eyes with a proper crimper tool and bus bar for my layout. I do like them again for how quick they are.

Is found a tip about posi-tap connectors before I knew how to solder. They worked very well but Are speedy if you have a large layout. I got used to soldering and didn’t need them anymore. Great if you want little fuss and speed.

Wow their really good solid? I use a little clamp blue and red colours only you just place the two in the clamp and snap together no cutting or trimming wire I use these on my model boat wires as you cannot get your hands inside the boat spaces still your are solid....best wishes ken

I think it’s the first time I’ve seen you sit down. Lol. Great product. Are there different ones for different gauges of wire and how many feeders can fit in each one reliably?

Hi there! I'm new to the chanel and a big fan. Can you comment on the gauge of the feeders and bus wires and where do you buy those?

Neat product , thanks for demonstrating it. Question. The twist the strands together and then screw down the black end clamp - that’s the same as a screwed to a terminal block sort of connection. Should one use a ferrule there as over time the screws down connection is likely to lossen from the stands compressing and shifting ?

Will you tell the name of your wire strippers and where you got them please? I've been looking for a pair like the ones you use in this video and I can't find them to save myself. Thanks. Neat connectors. Nice video. 👍

I am not DCC savy just yet. Would like to know why everyone runs a feed to every 3 foot section of track laid? Find it so wierd that use dc you have just one feed to 100 miles of track and all is well. Missing something here!

No only is voltage being sent to the rails, but digital control signals. Multiple feeders help reduce the signal loss of the rail and rail joiners for the control signal, providing a more pleasant experience of your railroad.

Any long term review of this product? Have you had any issues with them?

I really like them, and have continued to use them exclusively since I made this video. There was one layout where I broke a few of the pins off (only about 6-8 out of several thousand used). I still don't know whether I had a bad bag or if I was tightening them too much. That was when I was using 12ga bus wires, so maybe that makes a difference. On the smaller layouts I've built since, I've been using 14ga busses. I guess it's something I need to listen for on the next big layout (it's an audible snap, so at least I know when it happens and don't get mysterious dead spots).

@@mpeterll Thank you for the feedback. As you mentioned they're a bit pricy from the looks of things but not having to strip and solder hundreds of connections on any given layout sounds like fair exchange to me.

@@MRBenchwork Cost vs. time analysis: The bulk pack works out at about 58c each. If you assume that each connection saves about 5 minutes and you value your time at more than about $7/hr, then they are worth it. Not having solder drip in your face is a bonus.

Dreadful way of connecting feeder wires to the bus. Mechanical connections like this can always be a weak link in DCC. Bad connections lead to corrupt data.

And how do you do it? Terminals blocks?
@davidlindfield
@davidlindfield 4 жыл бұрын
@@chriswoodruff2293 no, solder every joint. I'm a professional layout builder. We build modular layouts. When the track is down we take the layout apart, put each module on the bench and wire it.
