Hey Marv, Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed your build and you’ve evidently done quite a bit of homework. I’ve been going back and forth on the best, “but cheapest”, route to building a rear axle and a steerable linkage axle for the front. I really like your idea and its well suited for my application. Would you mind sending me a part’s list and measurements you used for your build, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks for watching Scott. I purchased all the axle parts from reesehitches.com. did a quick search and their website seems to be down. But I used 2 pairs of 4-bolt on 4 inch hub assemblies with a 1 inch square shaft and 1 inch straighr spindle. These were for the front and rear axles. Then i purchased a single 4-bolt on 4 inch hub assembly, again with square shaft and 1 inch straight spindle. The assemblies came with bearing and castle nuts. The single assembly is for the steering mechanism. This link should take you to their website: www.reese-hitches.com/products/Pair_Of_4_Bolt_on_4_Inch_Hub_AssemblyBearings,AKSQ-200044 I used square tube for the actual axle tube which i believe is 2 inches.the axles are approx 32.5 inches in length. The axle tubes are approx 31.5 inches long and with total width from outside of tire to outside of tire is 48 inches. Thanks for watching.

Nice! I just got passed down a homemade smoker heavy as hell and thick pipe all around, so it’s very hard to move gonna put some wheels on my smoker first before anything else

So you did a super job building the off road package for you smoker would you be interested in building a cart for my smoker I have a assassin 28 the tall one I need the big wheels to move it easy I can only keep it in one spot in my yard I do need to cart built longer than the smoke but we can get into all that later let me know

Does the front axle have a gap between the frame. Or is the smoker frame sitting on the axle. Love this.

Good looking smoker only thing i dont really care for on any smoker is the counter balance...no need for for it in my opinion but other than that looks good! Not sure if the heat from fire box will damage back tires??? They look pretty close to fire box...on my lang deluxe hybrid i have the big trailer tires and lang built heat blockers as a guard for the tires,might be something to consider doing on yours?

I really didnt want to put a counter balance weight on mine. Dont care for the look either but i found it too difficult to one hand the lid open when carrying food in the other. As for to rear wheels, there is approx 4 inches between firebox and tires. They become warm to the touch and hopefully won't be damaged from the heat. I would like to see the heat blocker setup you have. My though was anything made of steel would just get hot anyway. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing the link to the hubs. I'm thinking if I can't find the swivel casters, I might just buy the wheels only, like I put on the back of mine, and one of those spindles/hubs, and fab the front end axle like the back and put that on the hub. Thanks for the idea! I actually recently bought a 5th wheel hitch from Reese hitches.

Looks really good, what was your overall width from outside tire to outside tire also what do you think is the total weight of your smoker? I believe mine when finish will be around 1600 lbs give or take. I am wondering if those tires will handle that weight.

@@marvhill301 thank you, I have a gate opening of 39 inches. I probably need to go with a thinner tire or just cook in the front yard and keep it in the garage. But I don't think my wife will like in the garage. The next option is to build a trailer.

You gotta put the center cap from the inside of the rim first then put the tires on

Have you had any issues with the firebox getting hot and creating an issue with the wheels? Heat wise?

Thanks for watching. No issues with thr heat to the tires this far. There is about 6 inches between the firebox and tires.

Sorry about that did you build those spindles yourself or axles that went onto the spindles I'm trying to do the same thing to my smoker and I don't know where to buy any of that stuff can you help
