addison rae’s new netflix movie is a train wreck HE’S ALL THAT
Hey everyone welcome back to my channel! It’s been a minute since we’ve done a movie review on the channel but I thought the release of Netflix’s reboot of she’s all that, called he’s all that, was the perfect opportunity! I’m sure most of you guys have heard about the movie at some point, either when it was first announced that tik tok's Addison Rae would be starring as the lead or this past week when it finally dropped on Netflix. Obviously a lot of people have thoughts on the reboot considering the original she’s all that is pretty well loved, and the fact that it was starring a tik tokker definitely drummed up some ~controversy~. So I thought it’d be fun to watch it myself and we could chat about what we thought :))
I was actually a pretty big fan of the original movie as a kid so I was definitely interested to see how a reboot would turn out especially since it would be a gender-swapped version. Netflix definitely has the ability to release some bad movies... cough cough... 365 days and after.. BUT they've also been behind stuff like to all the boys before so I honestly headed into this movie not really knowing what to expect in terms of the quality of it. Spoiler alert though if you're reading this before watching, it's definitely... mediocre at best.
As always let me know what you guys thought of the movie if you’ve watched it, I know the feedback for it so far has been pretty negative so feel free to share why you didnt enjoy it or if you did actually like it drop why you enjoyed it as well, curious to know what you guys think!
If you enjoyed the video feel free to give it a like and subscribe to the channel, it really helps me out :) you can always turn my post notifications on if you want to be notified every time i upload but otherwise i’ll see you guys in the comment section!! thanks for watCHINGGG :)

First I want to say I’ve seen a few people talk about this movie but none of them made me laugh like you did. I’m actually going to disagree with you about the character development of Padget vs Zach. I think his story line of a cool football star who’s way too into his own ego makes so much sense for this story. The bet seems natural because Zach cares way too much about what his friends/ peers think to give a shit if the bet is cruel. He’s directionless, he goes with the life that’s expected of him, so he doesn’t branch out in the word to learn who he is. This allows one of the few really well done elements of the original to shine which is when he tries performance art to impress Laney and likes it. By the end of the movie he expresses to her that he’s even considering majoring in performance art. Padget’s only motivations are she is “poor” and wants to go to college. We don’t know anything about her beyond she is a beauty influencer who wants to go to college. I don’t know what she wants to do in college, what her passions are aside from influencing, and other than her sponsorship money i don’t know how being an influencer even effects her life. The bet doesn’t make any sense because this movie wants Padget to be the ultimate Mary Sue. She’s the nicest girl you ever did meet, without a flaw in the world beyond mucus. By the end of the movie padget doesn’t go to college and travels the world with Cameron. She’s never expressed a desire to travel, right up until the dance college is her only dream and goal.

And she's using it to advance her career as a dietician. I personally find it annoying, at least when we were living together. But she's one of my most ambitious siblings which is cool. Coincidentally she was also homecoming queen every year and prom queen. But she never had friends and is very introverted. So the entire time I was watching this movie I just kept comparing my sister (who is basically Padget) to Addison and found her very disappointing

Thank you. That’s the issues with so many movie remakes that do role reversals is that they never stay true to the original character traits. It reminds me of this book I read called “before I fall.” The main character in the book was an a-hole but by the end of the book she became a better person. However in the movie they tried to make her character seem perfect and Mary Sue from beginning to end and it’s like?!?!? I feel like they always do this with female characters. They always have to be perfect or likeable(to the point that they are bland or not likeable). Film producers fail to realize the reason why people like Regina George’s character so much is because she’s a B and she’s owns it. Lead female characters do not always have to be likeable or perfect.

I feel like movies like this conflate internet drama with high school drama and just write the internet in the same way as mass school group texts in earlier teen movies: The "Oh No!! The whole school knows I did XYZ!! My life is ruined!" but it's very different with fans/internet people you don't know VS people you grew up around your whole life and are your peers. Her losing followers feels just so unrealistic in the way the internet is today. Maybe her school would be shitty to her, but her followers are her fans and would generally defend her and the internet is much more sided in calling out scummy people like cheating boyfriends. Also YOU KNOW a lot of people online would come across this and think this whole thing was scripted anyway.

You’re right, they missed out on a lot of opportunities to explore deeper issues from all characters. The dance off was so cringe, and mostly seemed like arm movements? Like I wasn’t wowed by the athleticism of the dance team. Though it would never end. Also I just hated the title of the party…. I’d think F. Scott Fitzgerald is rolling in his grave at such an invocation.

My biggest problem with the reboot is that after Netflix’s To All the Boys which had a POC as the lead to a movie about a white influencer with a token black (but not too black) and Asian friend is extremely frustrating. The amount of privilege in this movie that went un- acknowledged by everyone is just a huge letdown too. That’s why this movie is more towards the Kissing booth…

The influencer angle makes sense for today's culture, but the reason she "lost followers" does NOT make sense. Also, they tried way too hard to make her flawlessly sweet from the beginning. Instead of giving her a least a bit of some possible fame arrogance. Like in the movie Clueless, you want Cher to have a comuppance. You don't totally hate her, but she also has some blinders on about her own privilege. She has an arc/journey to go on I don't care that Padgett is poor (laughs looking at the huge house she had in the movie), there's arrogance that comes with ANY following on the internet, especially at a young age. But she's already beyond that and 'down to earth' in moment one in the movie. There's no journey of change to really go on.

You know, the whole "if you don't tell him I will" thing that Madison pettis's character pulled really shouldn't have worked. Cus in theory if she tells the guy about the bet she should automatically forfeit and loose the bet, so Addison Rae could have just refused to have said anything and Madison couldn't have done anything or risk loosing the bet. I mean I know that's pretty much the whole thing that happened in the orginal but even in that I think the bet part of the movie was just kind dropped. Idk it's been a really long time since I've seen she's all that.

I think this could be so much better. Like instead of her losing followers for getting cheated on it could be some controversy. Maybe not racism like it usually is (I think that topic is wayyyy more serious for it to be covered in a cheesy romcom), but IDK, facetuning photos for example. And instead of going along with the usual "makeover trope", the ending could be that she realizes how fucked up that is and changes the direction of her content, gets new followers, new brand deal. Using some side-trope she realizes college is important etc, etc. Ooooh this could be *SO* good. Maybe they thought that if it's too good, it won't be talked about on socials nearly as much. But it could still be cheesy and cringey teen stuff, so commentary chanels would talk about it. but if the storyline was actually good... oooh, imagine! It'd be so fun to watch commentary on that. Like "hey guys lets talk about this suuuper cringey teen movie, but... Plot twist, it actually talks about important stuff"

Isn't a remake supposed to like improve on the concept while keeping what made it special in the first place, instead of, the opposite. If you make a remake, a good one accounts for people who are expecting and meeting the expectations of the original Otherwise what is the Point
@blanca3806
@blanca3806 2 жыл бұрын
@@ahhh4117 a remake just means that you’re taking a movie that’s already been made and making a new version with some changes. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to improve or be better than the first one, just different. The purpose of remakes is usually to “adapt” the original concept to either a different decade or a different culture. And then of course, like every movie, it’s meant to be good but obviously that’s not usually the case with remakes. Like you said, a good one meets the expectations of the original, this is a bad one, but it’s still a remake. And “the point” in Hollywood lately with the constant remakes is not to make quality tv but to make easy money. They take a loved movie to capitalize on nostalgia and get a famous influencer to star in it. Most teenagers don’t care if it’s good and will watch it because of all the promo and adults will hate watch it so ultimately, it’s just a strategy to make money.
