I have a customers 2018 GTS 90 in the shop now......it has the same problem. It has the same engine and jet pump as the spark. Does anyone know, why the hell they would have designed such a difficult machine to work on, that is laid out so beautifully simple when you take the seat off? The odd thing about this ski, is that the coupler boot is NOT twisted in half. I haven't gotten the engine out, or the shaft out, but I am willing to bet that the coupler is stripped on the crank, or hopefully, the boot is slipping, and that's why it isn't torn.... yea, wish me luck. Thanks for a GREAT video, I haven't found much in the service manual about this either. This video was more than I expected on the build years for sure, because there isn't a lot of info on this subject.

I have a 2018 Spark that is now on it's 3rd stripped driveshaft, all replaced by the same dealer. Only 57 hours total, 6 since the second to last repair. BRP covered first two under warranty, but not the third. Dealer technician problem or manufacturing defect? A $1,400 repair every 6 hours or so seems a bit absurd! No sand, rocks, sticks, etc... fresh water only and trailered between rides. Don't know if I should ditch unit as a lemon or take the risk on the most recent repair. Still trying to get dealer to cover third repair at no charge since they just did the work over winter, but with just 6 hours of use it failed due to same reason. Thoughts?

sounds like the motor is not aligned. if they're not aligning the motor and they're just replacing the PTO or drive shaft that would totally cause the issue. what your experiencing is not normal, Sparks can become unaligned but not that fast.

The reason it is stripping is because the engine is not aligned with the impeller. Dealer tech should have checked it when doing first repair.

Can you please tell me how you removed the sleeve the driveshaft slips into that is screwed onto the crank . I’m having trouble . Also all this happened to mine which is a right pain

Depends on what year ski you have, if above 2016, you need to shim the motor so it doesn't spin while you turn the clutch

I have a 2016.5 meaning I have a stripped driveshaft and a stripped output sleeve. However, my output sleeve is replaceable. I bought a new one and bought the crank locking tool but I don’t know how to actually lock the crank. When do I screw the locking tool in so that I can unscrew the output sleeve?

If I'm reading this correctly you need to tighten the PTO - this requires motor shims. Make sure you align it properly, if not you'll be back at square 1.

I have the same issue, but my PTO does not come off. I found out the hard way. I bought everything to replace it only to find its not removable. ( early 2016 model). But if you download the manual its in there how to do it. There's a bolt you remove right behind the starter. Before you insert the crank locking tool you need to put cylinder 2 at TDC. Make sure you are on the right stroke.....compression stroke i believe. Then you could screw the looking tool in. I was able to hold the boots back far enough to weld it all the way around. Theres a little vibration due to it being unbalnced, but it will get us through the season. Going to dealer for new crank with updated PTO.

Maybe that's the reason that there is literally no 2014-2016 models to buy here in the Netherlands.. all broken XD. So happy that i own the 2017 model. The 2021 spark did come with the older fasion carbon seal right? thats bad.

I’m about to buy a 2018 model. Is that a good idea? I don’t have enough for a brand new spark but can afford the 18.

@@aalexanderb I don't, but it has to manufactured after March 2016 IIRC. You can also send the HIN to seadoo for confirmation.

how can i make sure that my pto is bad? i have a 2015 seadoo spark with only 40 hours never ridden in salt water. it was riding really good the whole time i rode it then parked it for a bit and next time i took it for a ride it was revving up and making a slight noise but not going over 8mph. i thought it sucked up some rocks but i took apart the jet and the Wear Ring and Impeller has no damage at all. it was full on gas. i have no idea why this happened if anyone has any knowledge on this please let me know

very possible it's the PTO or something not aligned. check alignment before anything

According to the dealer 2021 they started to inject oil into the coupler PTO. 2020 I'm not so sure about because apparently it's slightly different.

Both my 2014 sparks stripped the crankshafts. Pissed me off so bad.

2014, 2015 sparks have the shitty PTO. Any spark 2016 and up with a build date of march or later got the new PTO.

The "new" 2016 - 2021 PTO isn't any better and will still strip, difference is that its replaceable. Poor engine alignment, lack of grease, and water ingress fails the splines. Sounds like the new 2021 water seal is using pressurized oil to keep water out (bad for lake because it leaks oil into water, I don't like this solution) but I wonder what they've done about the shitty spline design if anything at all. Even by eliminiating the issue of water ingress, there is still the huge issue of shitty factory alignment and undergreasing.

@@dylanhatch2194Both bad ideas, welding solid propagates the issue into your engine bearings, splines are necessary to allow for misalignment. Welding will quickly destroy your machine. Bolt will vibrate like hell and wear to failure also PTO OD is hard coated and the shaft splines themselves are surface hardened so won't be able to drill a hole in the first place.

Mine just let go. I only had 82 hours on it. This is beyond garbage! Sea Doo is absolute complete garbage! I wouldn't take one if I was given it free!

sounds like a hull issue. I had a similar problem. check your hull around the jet pump and rubber seal. something is definitely wrong. my trixx hull was stripped OEM by the dealer, so I feel your pain
