she was among the first to sing Baroque opera as it was intended (fast) but nowadays there are quite a few other singers who can sing on this level. Is a great time for anyone interested in getting into Baroque opera specifically (which, in my opinion, is a lot more fun that 19th century opera).

This is only the second time I've heard this piece of music by this performer, and I've been listening to and singing classical and operatic music all my life. I didn't know until today that Vivaldi composed for the voice (how could I not know that? I'm 75 years old. Because, no one else singing, can sing this music!) I've been living in a different reality, but Cecilia Bartoli has opened my ears to the Gods.

She is much the same today. One time she sang Susanna from "The marriage of Figaro" - on the Met. She made James Levine replace two oboes with two clarinettes. There are three scores for the role - two scored for Nancy Storace (Mozarts favourite mezzo soprano) and Cecilias voice is probably the closest we come a voice that was not recorded. Point being she can tell everybody to do their homework before going on stage. Not that she isn't a good collegue. She is. Here is a rotten video of her singing Parto Parto from Mozarts "La clemenza di Tito". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/frJdiZN8zNjTgZs.html Just look at the way she enters with the clarinette (basset clarinette) in tow and the conducter following. Just see that afterwards the entire orchester tunes up, they could not hear themselves. You imagine her saying to the clarinette before entering: "Let's go in and kick some serious butt. Just concentrate and we'll be fine - I got You covered." But You are right: Both her parents were opera singers and she slept in the baby lift while they were working at rehersals.

Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? I am a bassoonist and Vivaldi wrote over 30 concertos for us. They are quite difficult! Bassoons of Vivaldi’s time had very few keys which would have made the technical aspects even harder than they are now. As for this aria, most people you hear singing it now don’t take nearly as fast as Ms. Bartoli does. Those who try are not very successful.

Back in the 1990s I found a CD of hers in a Borders Book Store. I bought it and was so glad I did. I was fortunate to see her perform in person when a good friend of mine invited me to go see her.

Cecelia Bartoli Say-chee-lia Bar-tho-lee Agitata da due venti Ah-jee-tah-tah dah doo-eh ven-tee Just a little help from a native English speaker who also speaks Italian and Spanish. I live in Italy though. I also hope you have looked at DIANA DAMRAU The Austrian soprano who does the queen of the night aria from the magic flute better than anyone else on the planet if you have not already. I saw someone else recommend that and it is amazing. I’m so glad that you love opera. Since moving to Italy for years ago I listen to a full length opera every single morning while I am preparing lunch for my husband before he comes home from work.

This is an OLD singing technique that predates what most people think of as opera. Using long and sustained notes with human voice is something that happened mostly during the classical and romantic era of music. Before that, the voice was mimicking the strings, like you've noticed.
@daove1

I cannot believe that a human can do that with the voice. A virtuoso of any musical instrument would find that extremely difficult, she does it with her voice. She was taught by her mother.

Why is she singing without a microphone, soundtrack?
@Code9
@Code9 Жыл бұрын
Opera singers don't need microphones to be heard over the orchestra. The explanation of how that is achieved, vocally, is complex and well beyond my technical understanding of the precise coordination between tonal frequencies and pitch, not to mention breathing techniques, tongue and throat manipulation and how the internal mouth cavity is manipulated to assist in the vocal production of various tones. And then, of courst, there are the years of intense training to bring all of this together into a stunning performance like this.
