Thank you for this. I wish you would’ve addressed the connection between eating certain foods and dopamine release and ADHD. I hypothesize that our ADHD brain drives that pleasure seeking behavior to get the dopamine it needs. Which makes it so so much harder. For me, this isn’t about deprivation. I’ve been binge eating since I was 5 or 6 years old. It far predated diet culture, body image awareness, and my mother never restricted food. I think there is a deeper biological drive for the adhd brain to seek dopamine.

Really like that you tackled this topic. Thank you. I do feel like your guest mis-spoke. Sugar is biochemically addictive. That’s science and not diet industry. This is especially true for people with insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance. Staying away from sugar has really helped my ADHD. I feel less focused on food and calmer, ready to focus on tasks. There are plenty of sweet treats to help with sweet tooth cravings. Seek out keto desserts or sugar free candy. They fix the craving and do not trigger insulin response - therefore, one and done. Better sleep as well.

There are multiple studies regarding the addictiveness of sugar. It’s a bold and inaccurate claim to state that it’s the “diet industry” trying to claim its not addictive. I get what she’s trying to say but there were several inaccuracies and inconsistencies to what binge eating is & the sugar claim was just too much.

Not a fan of intuitive eating with ADHD. If I tried listening to my body it would eat food for the dopamine hit in excess since it’s unable to produce enough on its own. Hence binging. And sugar is addictive scientifically. Binging seems to be the alternative to drinking or drugs to get high which ADHD causes a higher risk of. It’s just that too much food is cheaper, legal, and kills you slower. There seemed to be a lot of fatlogic in this video.

I talk to someone else about intuitive eating also, which is coming up, and it doesn't work for me, but it has worked for many people. I've seen many people become healthier by doing this with my own eyes. You have to find the right thing that works for you. That is the bottom line. What works for you?
