Thanks mate. I like my Adler straight pull, its an inexpensive, easy to operate and reliable higher capacity shotgun, that for me, just gets the job done. I've been using a 1oz #4 Buckshot load sold by OSA in Australia on pigs very effectively. It says they are manufactured in the EU on the box, however they are being packaged and sold by OSA as "21 pellets" but without a shot size indicated. I did measure them and they are 24Cal #4 buckshot. I have read a couple times now where owners, including me, have a little trouble sometimes extracting high brass shells. Remington use high brass shells and are usually the cheapest option for shotgun ammo in my area, which is a bit of a shame.

Nice vid, waiting for my PTA for one. I found the pistol grips to be awkward and am not a fan of Tac firearms plus the nickel finish is more suited to the tropics where I live. Pistol grips look "cool" but are a bit of a wank as far as I'm concerned. I have carried pistol gripped firearms in the army but that was a whole different ball game. Also I've seen problems with the box mag version on other vids, not to mention that the box mag version does not have last round hold open. Box mags are again "cool" but complicate matters, just one more thing to possibly malfunction. KISS is the best philosophy when it comes to machines of any kind.
@practicalnottactical

Thanks Gobangs. It seems you have an identical opinion about the "wank factor" when it comes to firearms. That probably comes from our shared background - Machine guns are all cool until you have to carry it and clean it twice a day!! I found exactly the same thing with the pistol grip Adler straight pulls. I found that they did not "come to the eye" naturally; not what you want in a shotgun. The pistol grip and straight comb on the stock did not fit well and left me too high above the sights. Maybe Adler got it right and knew anyone who was going to choose the tactical version was always going to add an optic anyway. I also didn't like the box mag, and while it functioned without an issue, it was a bastard to load. I also made a self comparison about the pistol grip weapons we used in the Army; you would rightly expect their ergonomics were correctly designed during R&D.

Hi mate, fantastic video, thanks. I think this (and comments here) have made my mind up for me between B220 and B230. B230 just doesn’t seem either practical or have good quality components. Just a question as a new shooter, out of curiosity, what do you personally use for full choke? I am still unfamiliar with chokes and their uses. I am aware of their function, but I’d like to get an idea what you use full choke for. Thanks!

Thanks for your support Southtrack. This is my first shotgun too, so I don't have any experience with shooting things out of the sky. I have only shot pigs, and I figure they need a good dose of lead to put them on the ground, so that is why I have tested loads with the full choke. Any other wider choke would only spread the shot and make the shots less effective at close ranges on pigs. I really like #4 buckshot with between 21 - 24 pellets, they don't like that stuff at all.

If my PTA ever gets approved I'll be picking one of these up. I've only got a traditional bolt gun so I have a question about safe storage. Do you have to go through that rigmarole to remove the bolt for storage? Or is there a easier method to remove the bolt or otherwise store it in a way that meets the "with the action broken" requirement?
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical 4 жыл бұрын
I had assumed that this type of action would fall into "with the action broken" category. This would not be good on the return spring over time though. Installing the yellow plastic thing in the action during storage may well fill the description of "action broken".
@teatowel11
@teatowel11 4 жыл бұрын
@@practicalnottactical thanks for the reply, I did a little hunting around and came to the same conclusion. I had assumed that it only referred to break action type shotguns. Weapons licensing should update their info if a chamber flag is all that is needed to show action is broken, very confusing. Sounds like a sensible solution though.

Nice video. I have not seen straight pull shotguns for sale here in United Kingdom. They seem to be popular in Australia. Are there advantages in straight pull compared with pump action or semi-automatic?
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, Absolutely no advantage whatsoever. The only reason the Turkish manufacturers are making straight-pull shotguns for the Australian market is because our Federal Government banned all semi-auto and pump shotguns in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre. The straight-pull design allows them to be sold in Australia as a manually operated "bolt action" shotgun. I think the idea is that rapid fire is not possible when one hand has to come off the gun to cycle each round, and therefore the reduced firepower equates to no massacres. Prior to the straight-pulls being introduced to our market, we had lever action shotguns also from Adler and a few other Turkish manufacturers. It's each to his own which design people prefer, but the lever guns were really clunky, however, I'm told do loosen up with use. Of course all of these Turkish guns are not fine craftsmanship items and are made to just get the job done; and they do that very well in my opinion. I paid just over $500AU for my Adler B220 and it has operated flawlessly, is resistant to corrosion, is handy, and comes to the eye nicely over the sights.
@barry-cq4xg
@barry-cq4xg 2 жыл бұрын
@@practicalnottactical Thank you for your reply. I thought the reason was possibly connected to Australian gun control law. That said, it looks like a straight pull action is as quick as a pump action in the right hands. These Turkish shotguns are certainly good value, but made to a good spec with 4140 steel barrels and chromium lined for durability. They have now introduced a range of bullpup shotguns with 18.5/20 inch barrels and they are selling like hot cakes in the US, and seem to be durable, but time will tell if they last. Thanks again for your comprehensive reply.

Hey mate, thanks for the video, I’m pretty curious about one for pigs, 3 years on, how do you find it?
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical Жыл бұрын
Pretty much the same as any 12ga with the right ammo as far as effectiveness goes. But the gun itself has proven totally reliable and durable so far. I use #4 buck on pigs which is about 21 pellets in the load; gives just the right balance of mass and spread to knock pigs over efficiently.

@practicalnottactical

Not sure what condition you are in now with how many parts in place. Is the bolt handle in the bolt? Is the bolt in the bolt carriage? Is the spring in place? Is the barrel into the receiver? I suspect not all of these conditions are complete or you wouldn’t be having your problem.

Is it possible to remove the front and rear sights from the gun?
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical 2 жыл бұрын
Not this model as they are part of the barrel, however, it wouldn't take very much to grind them off if it was essential. The rear sight is like a long rail that has two dots either side at the back, so you would have to take the whole rail off completely. The B230 models have some really poor plastic sights (almost like a toy) and probably SHOULD be removed in place of a red-dot.

@@practicalnottactical thanks for letting us know, I’m thinking about getting one, but I see parts from all three in the lineup that I would want on one gun, and Adler are very vague in the ‘options/accessories’ available
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical 2 жыл бұрын
@@chandler1390 Well my advice is to keep open minded until you have handled each one at your local gun shop. My experience was that the B230 tactical was just all gimmick, the sights are made of plastic and seriously look like they should be on a toy gun. Also, i thought the box magazine jutted out making the whole gun bulky and awkward. I also found the pistol grip stocks were not ergonomic like a shotgun should be, they are just setup wrong and my eye did not fall over the barrel like a shotgun should do. I found the B220AW the best of the three, the profile was all in line with the tube magazine and the gun had a natural feel when shouldered, and the sights were quick to align on the eye.
@chandler1390
@chandler1390 2 жыл бұрын
@@practicalnottactical my plan was to essentially have an all black AW and I was going to put on aftermarket ghost ring sights, I agree with everything you’re saying, I think the B230 is all gimmick, I’ve tried to handle one in a shop but the local shop has something against taking guns off the rack for people to handle so I haven’t had a chance yet with the lockdown currently preventing me from going out and looking.
@practicalnottactical
@practicalnottactical 2 жыл бұрын
@@chandler1390 Maybe you would prefer the B220PG with the pistol grip. Its already black and only has a small bead on the front of the barrel. You could easily remove the bead and put on aftermarket sights. I'm sure you could also order a replacement stock for an AW if you really don't like the pistol grip. The thing about firearms, is when you know you have a gun the truly suits your needs, it makes it all the more valuable to you and is always worth the cost and effort to get it there.
