Amanpour and Company

Күн бұрын

President Biden announced his bid for reelection today, raising renewed questions about his age and leadership ability. Decision makers from Brussels to Beijing are gaming out the implications of a second Biden term vis-à-vis a Republican return to power. Admiral William McRaven learned about leadership in four decades as a Navy SEAL, an experience he has distilled into a new book, "The Wisdom of the Bullfrog: Leadership Made Simple (But Not Easy)." McRaven speaks with Walter Isaacson about global hotspots and the often overlooked virtue of humility.

Simply talking about his decades of leadership, lessons learned, and how it allows him to make his decisions isn't bragging whatsoever. In fact, he adamantly admits about all the times he made mistakes and how he hopes to have made more of the "right" decisions, rather than the bad ones. He never put anyone down ever in this entire interview. I don't understand how you could insinuate that he wasn't humble during this interview. He spent his entire adult career in the SEAL teams, it would make sense for him to bring up what he learned and how he lead during his decades of leadership. Bringing that up simply is not being a braggart.

For several years, the nation's debt has been bigger than its gross domestic product, which was $26.13 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2022. The national debt is approximately $31.38 trillion dollars. So how can we justify being the world's police force. Is there a way to tighten the nation's belt on "Defense Spending" so as to perhaps benefit the civilians that are supposed to be defended?

He said very correct that learn from mistakes and do better things quickly, I guess this means getting things done quickly together again. However, I also believe that President Biden shouldn’t campaign for next Presidency again, because we should let more young and younger experienced leaders to govern with more energies for getting things done quickly will be more realistically. Also I believe letting all elected Presidents and their families to have their peaceful life for America’s images by appreciations of achievements and changing mistakes through learning opportunities and experiences from accomplishments and mistakes sincerely together. I believe that he said nothing can’t be solved and achieved between countries with different systems through conversations with each other, learning experiences for achieving peace efforts and longevity of the earth by sense making policies, visions and wisdoms without weakness and without over reaching by confidence of America’s recognitions and principles, as well as establishing America’s allies together as strong alliances together, dealing by principles, also less enemies as better, as well as efforts for a strong economy growing to support strong defense capabilities and unity as the peace will from the strength. Friendships doesn’t necessarily to imitate unknown ideologies influences. Conflict doesn’t necessarily must bringing wars. Between different recognitions and principles, if wouldn’t cost much significant damages, still will be able to achieve positive things together by principles, learning experiences, patriotism spirit to achieve together by strategies, visions, wisdoms, I guess. Most important thing is doing the right things, I guess he is talking about this.

HUMILITY IS A POSITIVE FORCE THAT KNOWS NO LIMITATIONS NOR BOUNDARIES... Humility is a principle ingredient of a pleasing personality and powerfully positive. There is no substitute for a pleasing personality. Humility is a force that you can put into operation for own good. All of humanity’s greatest advances - spiritual, cultural or material - have been based on it. It is the prime requisite of true Judeo-Christian,, Taoism, and Muslim philosophy // theory. Humility is absolutely essential to the type of person you need to achieve true happiness, no matter what your goal. Without humility, you will never gain wisdom. Humility also helps you to find the seed of an equivalent benefit in any setbacks in life, and to overcome them. EVERYTHING TAKEN AWAY IS REPLACED BY SOMETHING OF EQUAL OR GREATER BENEFIT. LIFE NEVER LEAVES YOU STRANDED, IF LIFE HANDS YOU A PROBLEM, IT ALSO HANDS YOU THE RESOURCES TO DEAL WITH IT. Humility turns setbacks into a spiritual blessing. YOU HAVE AS MUCH STRENGTH DURING ANY SETBACKS IN LIFE AS IN TIMES OF GOOD FORTUNE. Humility allows you to have gratitude for the blessing you already have.

I agree with the terms we should join with China but they have gone too far and need to be punished by trade war. China will do worse if they have impunity. Carrot 🥕 and stick Still we should talk to them.

Am I the only one who sees the irony - not to mention the hypocrisy - of 'the bullfrog' insisting we need more humility in public office/service while constantly touting his seal bullfrog status?

Well … I would respond that the apparent small number of folks who think as you do - believing they seeing irony and hypocrisy in McRaven’s responses - is a result of misunderstanding the purpose and the back and forth of the interview. Isaacson is asking McRaven to impart what he’s learned about leadership, because he wrote a book about it. McRaven can’t very well do that without talking about his many years of experience as a leader and what he’s distilled from that experience as key aspects of effective leadership. You can’t do that by responding “aw shucks, it ain’t nothin.” That would be false humility and a worthless response.

The title of this video is very misleading, in fact it's completely dishonest. He never makes that statement that's in quotes! Shame on whoever is responsible for it.

Do what’s right, honorable, selfless, even thought it might cost you everything…. Such BS!!! Since when has that ever been true of this country, and especially our military. I served over 8-years, wanted it as a career, and was awarded one of the same medals he wears on his uniform. Only I didn’t get to play frogmen games, my job was to blow up the planet. It pretty darn easy to talk about honor and making your bed, when all you have to consider are the people following your every command! Killing 20 sopped up illiterates in some far away land, is a dammed sight easier than having St. Peter stop you at the pearly gates, and saying, “wait a second Christophor, everybody is waiting to hear this answer. Why exactly did you choose to blow up the planet and kill 8-billion people???” My point here, is this honorable man, this servant to the code, whitewash’s nearly aspect of the reality of life, so he can pretend that the “bullfrog” isn’t just as full of BS as those who choose to live in reality. I went in believing that being honorable meant following my orders, to the letter, but I got out when I finally realized that might doesn’t make right, except in the history book:-(
