Aamna, you are so on point about our culture with making everyone bhai or bhabi and not necessarily out of respect; some do it to show off their misogyny. I was once visiting my parents in Pakistan. Their new tenants, young couple with the guy at least 5-6yrs older than I, were invited for chai. Living abroad for many years, I was not used to making random people bhai/bhabi, so I called the guy by his first name and mentioned that my husband will be joining us shortly. Time passed. Chai came. I asked the guy if he takes sugar. He replied "yes, 2 tsp BAAJI!" There was an emphasis on the baaji, and he added it with a smirk; looked at his wife with triumph who returned the smile in acknowledgment. In that moment, I could tell he didn't mean it as respect but to insult me on how dare a woman call him by his first name in front of his wife.

To be honest Nadia khan is not an epitome of grace so it’s not surprising . That’s being said, I think there should be a fair exchange of talents between the two nations. Oh how I wish both nations could freely collaborate and work in harmony, that would be such a treat. I am Indian and married to a Pak origin and I love everything about the two countries and wish we were one; Imagine the collective pool of talent and experience we can bring forward on the world stage. We would have been rocking the world, but alas now two nations. But still we together we can create history with Art & Music. What pains most is people from western countries are welcomed , but our own that were separated by politics of the white people are not allowed into each other countries. Hope this divide gets better with time and we can enjoy each others music & art freely.

In America, we grew up calling our parents’ friends uncle and aunty. Now as an adult in my 30s, I find it makes sense to just call people by their first name like the rest of America. It’s a very confusing topic; you want to respect others but not offend others. Half the people I know feel offended if someone called them sweetheart, dear or ma’am. Many people I know like being called by their first name- as do I. However, I do see the value in being warm and friendly, especially with people from eastern cultures who are use to being called Khala or aunty, ukhti, etc. With them, I usually stick to Sister because we deal with Muslims from across the globe and you can’t please everyone. If someone behaves respectfully, they’ll be treated with the same if not more respect. If someone is rude, entitled or disrespectful, they will not get any of my personal time or attention.

Watching today’s episode and thinking one thing only: Why do we Pakistani over complicate literally everything? With every passing day we are complicating things even more…whether it’s jokes or respectfully calling someone Aapa etc everything has to be filtered and over analyzed! Breathe people……. Fawad is a good actor but he was never a big thing in India. He just did 2 films which were just mediocre. His body of work is not enough to address him as a competition to even the newcomers of bollywood. The competition in India is huge , it s even difficult for megastars to sustain their carrer . Fawad khan jaise bahut aate or chale jaate hain aur public ko pta bhi nhi chalta . Talking about the fan following of the Pakistani actors , barely people know them here . No doubt they are talented, but the Pakistani cinema is not big as even the bhojpuri, bengali or any of the local industry . Hassan ka taana about the iftaari was more valid. He literally comes to Aamna’s home every day. She should have been courteous enough to feed him iftari at least once. And the reason is quite lame that she does not have a feast at iftar is the reason she did not offer Hassan and crew iftari. You can offer the same things that you have at iftari or prepare a feast for them on that particular day, anyways it is not as if she has to cook.

Honestly cannot relate enough on this uncle/aunty thing. My dad has a cousin who is really really old and his children are my mum/dad age, they always called my dad “uncle” and aunty to my mum. Ammi never likes it, strangely enough i recently met their children who are sort of same age bracket as me and my siblings, probably couple of years younger and she called me “aunty”, imagine being 28 and called aunty by a 25 year old, i had a shudder… and then my brother who was actually younger than the girl( like 23) being called uncle by that same girl.
