The entire movement of trying to normalize the idea of what used to be goods now being provided as services instead makes me feel ill. The reason why goods that you purchase and own being by far the better alternative is because when you don't own something, you don't own access to it, and that access can be revoked at any time as those granting it to you see fit. If you're paying a subscription to a service that lets you watch movies for example, your access to those movies is dependent entirely on the service provider maintaining their servers and granting your account permission to access them. If the servers go down or you get banned or your subscription expires or etc. it's all gone. You can't access that content anymore. If you simply purchase a physical copy of a movie instead or purchase it digitally and have it installed directly onto your system, that's yours for you to use whenever you want with no time limits or anything. I'm generally fine with the idea of subscription services being provided as an alternative for those who find them convenient and don't mind the lack of ownership, but they should never ever outright replace the option to simply just own goods instead. If a piece of software is only available for rental instead of purchase, I'm not interested in spending on it.

The only problem I have with open source is the UI suuuucks with a lot of projects. Mainly because most of the people aren’t UI devs. As well as photoshop has far better features in a lot of cases.

I can understand cancellation fees on like hotel rooms and air travel because they have to prepare that for the person ahead of time, but for software? Makes zero sense.

adobe is taught in schools because they give it to universities. can't have them indoctrinating the youth with anything else obviously.

In Finland the university pays for any software you need for coursework. Sometimes you'll get a full license, othertimes we'll have to use the schools remote desktop.

They can just sit there and print money while they watch the next generation of students being indoctrinated into their products. They are extremely litigious when it comes to piracy, even against people trying to learn the program and not selling anything what so ever. Their phone home via Genuine Service seems to be able to find your Email (not 100% certain on this), which then they send cease and desists. (From what I've seen discussed on Reddit which I know isn't exactly the best source) And that's probably not even everything that's wrong with the company. I really hope Blender is able to replicate everything 3DS Max can do at some point to make the 3D industry less prohibitively expensive to get into.

Hold your horses, Adobe ( in this update) wants to look at and own the customer's computer files, presumably to train their AI tools. Consider now the amount of classified documents that the government has and how many of those machines have photoshop for redacting said documents. Now the government either needs to cancel all subscriptions to Adobe, (which they are making very difficult) or stop them from snooping on government computers. It would be nice if the government was stepping in because of the anti-consumer practices, but I doubt it is the only reason.

I think theres a better solution here. Adobe sells their annual subscriptions as being discounted when compared to the monthly plans, but unlike almost every company out there, they charge you monthly instead of a lump sum for the whole year. The logic behind it is that you agreed to pay for a year at a discounted price, so cancellation would be taking advantage of the discount while failing to honor your end of the contract. Put simply, its a BS excuse intentionally designed to drain your bank and confuse you. I think it should be illegal to charge monthly for annual subscriptions. Either you pay it all at once, or you dont pay at all. Making it monthly creates the expectation that its easy to cancel, which allows companies like adobe to exploit their customers for more money.
