I’m sorry. This comment will probably be deleted but them two don’t deserve to have children. YOU decided to adopt these children which makes you responsible for their wellbeing, behaviour etc. If these children were born with issues due to the biological mother being addicted to drugs or alcohol & the children have behavioural, mental or physical issues due to that, that’s NOT THIER fault. But it is/was YOUR responsibility to raise these children, show them love, kindness teach them manners & respect but YOU failed & YOU discarded these children like they were trash because they didn’t live up to your expectations. You both should be ashamed of yourselves. Thank god for Ms Powers for taking these boys in & showing them love & kindness. Please don’t adopt anymore children & I hope no adoption service would ever let you adopt again

those boys sound very aggressive and violent. That why people need to be very careful when adopting a child. I won't adopt because I don't know the child back ground and I be to scare that the child will turn on me and my family. They adopted the child at age 3 and had them for 13 years! Absolutely disgusting that they talk about this child like he's not even their child, much less their responsibility. I could understand this sentiment if you were taking a 17 year old foster child in and they were having behavioral issues, but this is crazy. My niece is adopted from the foster system and she moved in with them at age 3. She is my niece and my brother's child now, full stop. She had a very rough first three years, her biological dad was in prison for killing a cop, and her mom was/is a drug addict. No doubt she took significantly more parenting work than some other children, but she's a teenager who's doing wonderfully now because my brother and sister tried to give her everything she needed. They treated this child as an inconvenient paycheck. Disgusting.

That's what pisses me off. She talks about her adoptive kids as if they're different from her bio kids. And then wants to know why her adoptive kids feel alienated and acting out. If she couldn't handle special needs kids she shouldn't have adopted them. Just the fact that she talks about them like they're a problem instead of real human beings sickens me. And then she goes further and tries to blame Ms. Powers for taking them in. And I don't believe her when she says Kadin ran away. I think she freaked out and kicked him out. I hope they're never allowed to adopt again. They don't deserve those kids.

@@iloveschicken6527 agreed. But change the focus of that sentence... The kids would probably never be adopted if it weren't for the money. It's not an ideal system, but families that want to help kids but may need financial support are more likely to help kids who need a home if the edges of the financial side of it are smoothed out. There are a lot of kids in homes because of these stimulus packages. This is just a shit version of how that plays out.

@michaelcritter7933 I understand to an extent but.. These folks owned their own business and had a good income! If they wanted to adopt to save 2 children... You move into a smaller home, cut unnecessary expenses.. whatever! When you adopt, you take 100 percent accountability and responsibility for that child as if you gave birth to them! I need more info on this story. Did they adopt them to save them or were they looking to add more joy to their family? There's a difference! Did they know these boys? Doesn't sound like it. Sounds like they sought to adopt. If you seek to adopt, make sure you can financially and mentally take on that responsibility! If you are adopting to save a child that you know is in trouble is a whole other ball game! It's very obvious that when you adopt or foster in cases like this, there's probably going to be some trama issues with these kids! That's why they are in the system to begin with. They didn't adopt these boys from birth. But I see what you are saying as well.

I was adopted when I was almost 3 years old and this was one of my biggest fears for my entire life; the fear of my parents getting tired of me and giving me up or just plain sending me back. I was also troubled and had emotional issues and just was terrified that they would reach the end of the rope and just give me up. Thankfully, I have the best parents in the world and they promised me over and over again that that would never happen, that I was theirs until the end of time. It’s like ripping the floor out from under someone…a vulnerable child at that! It makes me ill! I’m so glad that you were finally able to settle and know that your family is forever! It breaks my heart that you lived with such a terrifying thought/fear. I once told my Mother that I wanted new parents and my mom said “ok” and walked out if my room.I was in the 1st grade and I remember for a week after every time school would end and the principal would announce the names of the kids whose parents were there to pick them up I would shake with fear thinking that she would announce my name and my “new parents “ would be waiting for me. Perfect example of people who adopt for the wrong reason. Using the monthly adoption stipend as personal income is why many people choose to adopt/foster. Some states give this stipend to allow a wider range of income people to be able to adequately support children they adopt. In an ideal world more families with their own adequate resources would step up to adopt the thousands of kids in foster care and they wouldn't need to include the stipend. Sadly, the vast majority of people who aren't willing to adopt (because the children do come with baggage) are very willing to talk about those that do.

These adoptive ‘parents’ are clearly abusers themselves; no one describes the way their children act as ‘abusive’. That’s a term that invokes a dynamic of power (and of course parents hold really significant power over their kids) and they would only see a child as having power over them if there was a monetary consequence related to their presence, which there is in this case. This judge is amazingly lenient towards these obviously suspect people, I realize his prerogative is to get control of the finances here but they’re making their boys out to be monsters when the reality is that they are exploitative failures as parents

You would be surprised. I worked for a CPA firm. We had a client who was a self-employed financial advisor, if I recall correctly (basically, someone who should know better). Lucky me was tasked with going through ALL his credit card receipts for the year and list them in an Excel file to help identify which were personal and which were business. We also had to go through his bank statements. So, yeah, business owners like this guy exist.

💯The fact you're a crappy business person doesn't take priority over supporting children! They keep trying to use business results as a reason why they can't afford to take care of their children. Maybe a forensic accountant is needed to double check the business and personal records... As another commenter mentioned, not keeping a clear separation between personal and business could be a way to obfuscate taxable income.

As an adopted child, and now the mother of an adopted child, maybe I can answer their question. You have to support your child because he is your child. Not your foster child, not some kid who lived with you. You adopted a child. When you did that, the judge told you, "It will be as if he was born to you." He. Is. Your. Child. You're responsible for him.

The reason any State is willing to make child support payments for ADOPTED hard to place special needs kids is because they know the potential burdens adoptive parent(s) will take on. Guess what else is available? In home behavioral health support plans and help. Once I heard they had this kid since 3, I almost flipped a lid. "Mom" demonstrated she is a victim in a very narcissistic/Karen sense. Zero empathy for Kadin. Even if Kadin was a handful- all they had to do was ask the State for help through the years- even for therapeutic placement when needed. And, as adults get into therapy themselves. And, as for their own daughters- sorry: 16 is a very normal time to get a job for extra things, or to put gas in your beater car. Extremely normal in fact.

So both parents work full time at this business but the business only makes a profit of 20k to 34k a year? That’s a 10k to $17k income per parent per year. Someone working full time making minimum wage makes $28k per year. If your business is leaving you with an income of less than half what a minimum wage worker makes working full time, you should probably leave your business and get a job because things obviously aren’t working out. These parents are either lying about their income, living off the money they get for the adopted boys or both. Either way these parents are scammers and the mother’s manipulative crying temper tantrum and storming off was just embarrassing.
