Poor pup likely came from a puppy mill due to not being able to use the bathroom outside properly like other dogs would. Glad Victoria could help her.

I used Victoria's tricks from an earlier show to turn around a puppy I was dog sitting who also came from a puppy mill. (not my choice, BTW). ^_^ After I was done, would only go in the grass and looked up at me rather proudly and became happier after being properly trained.

I don't know about this dog specifically, but a lot of people accidentally teach their dogs to not want to go to the bathroom near people by punishing them when they are caught peeing (inside). The dog often learns to be afraid of having people nearby when they're peeing.

@@junbh2 What you do is not yell at them, and simply clean up the mess with the enzyme cleaner she mentioned. I would clean it up right away without a word said to the dog in question. I timed his feedings to exactly same time of the day, took him for a walk in the morning and evening, he slowly associated those walks with positive things. (I struggled to get him out the first time) and he'd always go for me in the grass after the first day of dog sitting. I put a name to it. Routine is key. (She says it in other videos a lot.) So when I had to hand the dog back, he was 100% trained. Three days flat. Also, he was a much more confident dog such that his behavior had changed for the better. The only thing I couldn't break with him because of the trauma was crate training. I needed a lot more time.

I really like these owners. You can tell they genuinely love their dogs. They didn’t create the problem through neglect or mistreatment and they were able to fix it quickly with the right instructions. I wish all doggies had owners like this

@@whynot7802 That doesn't automatically make them bad people. Also keep in mind that they got the dog 7 years prior and I'm not sure when this video was filmed (could've been as much as 10 years ago). I'm guessing they got her when there still wasn't a whole lot of awareness.

Because in this episode the real problem was the relationship between the couple, it was actually cringy to watch the guy laying in bed being all over his pet, completely ignoring his girlfriend while she was there also. The pet was a good lovely dog, just needed a lityle guidance.

My dog is camera shy too. She doesn’t care if I’m taking pictures of my cats or anything else but as soon as I move the phone in her direction she’ll turn around. We can bribe her though

Animals usually become camera shy because their owners use the camera-flash. It's not just frightening but downright hurtful to many species like cats and dogs.

@@JuMiKu I never used the flash of my phone camera when taking pics of my dogs or fish. My dog isn't shy of the camera at all since she was a puppy. I bought her from a pet store that takes people's animals that they don't want.

Skullzo Of course they don’t know what a camera is. An animal being scared of a certain object is not uncommon. It isn’t about them knowing or understanding the object, it’s about association.

Dogs don't care what word you use lmao. You could call sit 'stand' or their bed a pool and they wouldn't know the difference. Dogs don't naturally know english, so you can teach them that any word means anything you want.

I will always adopt over going to a pet store, but I do have to wonder: what happens to pet store dogs that don't get bought? That's what I'm scared of, if they're put back to be breeders in a mill.

@@UnityBringer Buying a puppy mill dog will make the owner of the mill breed even more puppies, so even if it is sad for the puppies at the pet store not to be bought you should never do it. The puppies that are not sold might be put down, sold elsewhere or sent back to the mill, but they could also be surrendered to a shelter.

@@emmamemma4162 I did say I'd never do it, and would adopt. I'm just trying to think of what can be done for the puppies in there right now. Obviously, buying puppies will lead to more breeding, but they won't stop breeding because people haven't bought the current puppies. What would be the best thing I could do as a consumer, other than adopt vs shop, is more of the question I am asking, I suppose.

Maybe asking the pet shop if they could start cooperating with a rescue instead of a puppy mill would yield the best results, especially if you get a group of people together and gather a bit of media attention. For the puppies in there right now, I'm afraid there's not a lot you can do, sadly, but it might be worth it to ask the pet shop what their policy is if puppies are left unsold. They might let you take the older dogs to a rescue or something, bit it's really important that you do not pay any money for the dogs.

My dog “tells” me when he wants to go to the bathroom (yard). He just starts barking and looking at me with a face expression that tells me he needs to go outside. Sometimes he goes to the front door too. I also know the time he needs to go to the bathroom. He goes at 7am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, and 9pm.

Victoria uses a technique called shaping (which Victoria also referred to as desensitization), where you divide an action into smaller pieces and reward the subject for each new step they take. Victoria didn’t start with bribes. Victoria started by rewarding Zoe when she sniffed the camera. Then Victoria rewarded Zoe when the camera was turned on. By the end of the shaping process, Victoria rewarded Zoe for taking a picture. (And for the whole time, she only went in one direction, not going back to previous steps).

Victoria is wonderful, I have used some of her techniques on my own dog's and it's been really helpful, I've put them on a strick feed and walk sedule, worked on my voiced command, and have thrown away the shocked collar for my yapper, she so much better now. Thank you Victoria for being the supper Nanny for dog mums. You are amazing

I got my schnauzer from a pet store and I will never never never never buy from another pet store. My little schnauzer is happy and thriving now, but she was very aggressive and destructive as a puppy, but after a lot of loving and training... she is now a happy 3 year old that loves taking trips to our nearby lake.

My Dog came from the streets. It's looked to be about 5 weeks. It was skin and bones but happy. For the first week he stayed on the porch. Then I introduced him to the front room but with the door open at all times. Then one day he squated and peed, I screamed so loud he ran out. Three days later I fell asleep for two hours, with the door closed!. When I woke up there was a little pile of few. I didn't say anything and he watched me clean it up. I opened the door. And for three weeks I kept the door opened in day and he stayed out at night. Now for almost three more weeks he stays indoors at night, out all day. And he yipps when he wants out. I never actually trained him. He went with what was going on such a good husky mix. I'm so happy to have this boy.

My grandma got a Wheaten puppy from a pet store too and she was afraid of getting her pic taken. Even using a phone to take a picture was scary for her. When she got older she got desensitized but when she was younger it was impossible. I'll bet it is a puppy mill thing.

i hate random photo with flash, it flattens everything. plus it's unpleasant for the eyes, no matter the specie. (i say "random" because of course in a studio photoshoot the lights are at least worked by the photograph)

My Pekingese was the same way, but I realized it was because the flash made him uncomfortable. The flash is a startling thing. Not only does it hurt his eyes to look at, he also doesn't know the shocking, sudden light means. It took me weeks of trying it without the flash for him to realize that when I pointed my phone at him, nothing is gonna happen. Now he'll sit still and 'watch me' when I point my camera at him because I give him praise and kisses every few seconds while taking pictures and he trusts that the flash isn't coming back. Unless he's passed out 😂 then I can take all the pictures I want of him with flash and he has no idea lmao

That doesn't work for many dogs, since you rewarding them for going on the pad is also rewarding going in the house. You are better off just supervising your dog during potty training and taking it outside regularly to make sure there are no accidents.

@Ravenz trzecie oko That's similar to dogs with hanging ears actually. They have problem communicating with their ears so they can turn aggressive. Spaniels with floppy lips thrown in is especially prone to this.

Tail length is genetic so chances are her parents either had shorter tails, or they carried genes that cause that short of tail.
