I love how they always tell you this video is for people just starting out with photography and then show up with a $1900 camera. His advice, however, is spot on.

A great demonstration. I used Program Mode many years ago, but haven't in a very long time. Thanks for the reminder. It does make getting good shots much easier when the location just isn't ideal or you are unsure of yourself in making the right decision about your camera settings.

Thank you for the awesome tips!! I finally understand what program mode is for. Thank you for not using giant fancy lighting setups that beginner photographers obviously don’t have. Love your videos!!!

This is a fantastic tutorial! I usually shoot in Manual or Aperture Priority DMode, but I'm LOVIN the P mode especially outdoors...l

A good idea, and I would recommend that as the next step in the journey of the beginning photographer, though program mode is a good place to make a start.

I'd just go straight to Aperture Priority, honestly. You don't need this as a stepping stone to Aperture Priority.

Nice video. Why no AP? What's the difference? Have you already left Argentina? Yesterday was a great oportunity for interesting street photos quite close to were this video was shot. It would have been nice to have some course or presentation from you here

I am trying to change the aperature (yes, i'm in Program mode) but it's not moving in either direction. I'm using a Nikon D500. What's wrong?

You can shoot portraits with harsh light, you can shoot portraits with F8-F9, you dont have to be always wide open. Some of this tips aren't good, the only tip i would recommend to get out of auto is to be on P (program) and then try the modes A (aperture priority) and S (shutter priority) and then finally full Manual mode.

And the most important tip is to have fun with photography, if you just watch tutorials and copy everyone else, you're a bad copy of everyone else.

Why did you go to 5.6 ..couldn't you go lower that that?

I think he's using the sony 28-70 f3.5-5.6, so no, he can't when he's at 70 mm.
@paulandgely234

Not with that lens. As you zoom out, the aperture changes and in this case it was 5.6 (not a fixed aperture lens).

I'd just go straight to Aperture Priority (which I love for natural light shooting). Program Mode holds nothing for me.

It gives you the correct exposure value, and you can adjust the speed and ap without changing the EV.
