Learn how to shoot compelling video for your travel or vlog using just a few simple tools. In this episode Mark Wallace demonstrates how you can use a GoPro Hero 5, an external microphone, and a small tripod to shoot video in places where a large camera and tripod just won't work.

Nice bit on filmmaking! I actually just posted one on the pros of no planning before filming :)

Thats pretty awesome - very helpful. I'd love to see something like this maybe covering how to film music video-esque type stuff on the go. Of a small street band or performer. Ya know? :)

Some cool ideas. A few of those stills looked familiar (from IG). I see a lot of videos that incorporate some of those ideas, but some of them don't exactly do it well (or rather don't properly balance the concepts). Curious, if you are doing a bit of a Go Pro series of videos, would there be any way to explain some of the different settings and how you might decide to change them for different situations (like for time lapses, Field of View settings, speeding or slowing down movement). I wish you continued safe travels around the world on the motorcycle.

Were the still shots frames extracted from 4K video or were they shot as still with the Hero 5?

Beautifully made! I have to say that i've noticed almost zero fisheye distortion to your footage. I guess you used GOPROS software to eliminate this???

Nope, I just use the "linear" option for field of view. It's built in to the Hero 5.

Bless you, this made me found out, that there is a firmware update for my Hero4, introducing Linear FOV as well.

Thanks for this, but it convinces me to not use a GoPro for this kind of filmmaking. Despite Mark's talent as a photographer, this footage is clearly inferior in terms of image quality and distortion to what one gets from one of the smaller mirrorless cameras. Several of the more accomplished U.K. vloggers use train station and interior train footage frequently, and their footage, shot with the latter, looks quite a lot better. They also get less shake, presumably due to better image stabilisation. And of course, if you have a mirrorless camera you don't need a second camera for stills. The sole advantage of the GoPro would appear to be price, and even that's not the case if you want decent still photos.
