Great video for those who are learning photography. Too many people are talking too much about buying the latest camera or lens without understanding that photography is more about lighting and compostion than acquiring the latest camera or lens.

Disagree. No! I have to go to Adorama & by an M11, 50 mm APO & some lighting. Ah, maybe not. Let me call Adorama & see what they think.☺ But seriuosly, Except for landscape & sports photography, almost every other genre of photography, more would be gained from purchasing lighting equipment & learning how to use it than a new camera. You have to admit got to love great glass/lenses! I know I do.

Hey Adorama/Mark. Have you thought about making this a series? Getting the idea of practicing for "the big game" in people's minds rather than just recreating is powerful. Great video.

It is astounding how much I have learned, and also how much I have accidentally gotten "right", by watching your videos, and those those of a couple others through Adorama. Likely the best resource for the learning photographer.

This is awesome sauce Mark! Thank you very much for this tutorial and suggestions for trying it out ourselves. I hope you continue this series and work up a future episode where by you do this with a model and vintage clothing for another ‘Old Masters’ style edit. PS I hope you pass this video along to your Adorama colleague, Daniel Norton. He will be impressed by how many times you used the term, “specular highlights”, a pet term of his! LOL. Cheers.
