Mid 80's . Two LPs were never off the turntable:- 'Heads and Hearts' by the Sound and 'Script of The Bridge' by the Chameleons. Both stunning. To this day I'll never understand how such talent could go unnoticed.
@cejannuzi10 ай бұрын
They didn't go unnoticed. In the mid-80s, the NYT rock critic declared them the two most import rock groups in the world. But they didn't fit in with any scene or the prevailing 'MTV culture' of the first half of the 80s. I am also forced to think of some other equally great groups--the Church, the Go Betweens, and the Comsat Angels.

Man this video makes me sad (and grateful) Sad that more people don't understand the greatness of The Sound Sad that I never had the experience of seeing The Sound live Grateful that I am old enough (59) and discovered them early enough to understand their place in the rich and varied history of what we now call post-punk Grateful for the age we live in where I can log into KZfaq and re-discover and share the music that shaped me...as well as find younger people that can appreciate great music from a bygone era.

"Post punk" did not exist during the life of Adrian B. He would have called it "new wave " (of rock music ) like the rest of us back in the late 70's /early 80's.

I saw them about 10 times (sorry not 250!) and Borland Solo once. When I bought him a drink after a London gig, I expected my Rock God to say “a double JD & Coke” - No “a small Liebfraumilch please”….so much influence on my life. Sadly, he was obsessed with Ian Curtis too much xx

I wish Adrian had been able to make it into the 2000's and the internet really taking off. He would have had people discovering him for the first time, and the success he deserved. The guy waa an absolute legend of a songwriter, singer and musician. If he was about someone could have marketed his music to an appropriative audience that dont yet know he is one of their favourite artists of all time.

@@2Times22 I saw Joy Division in early 1980 in London. One of my all-time top 10 gigs, and they are also in my all-time top 10 bands. I saw the Sound a number of times in the early/mid 1980's. They were excellent. But musically a notch below JD. You do know that Adrian B was a huge fan of Ian Curtis. Indeed, idolized him. Sadly Adrian B also tragically committed suicide. So a double tragedy. ps imagine if Ian had not committed suicide in May 1980. JD were on the cusp of going huge. Their gigs were sell outs in the UK and they were about to go on their first US tour. I think they were on the cusp of going mega. The Sound never had that level of popularity. The JD gig I went ot in London in Feb (1980) was rammed . The 3 times I saw the Sound later on in the 1980's were nowhere near full capacity. Even though only Uni venues. To this day. You don't see kids walking around with Sound T shirts. You see loads of people of all ages with JD T shirts.
@platonicpanic89584 ай бұрын
@@keithbate9405Quit mythologizing suicide and looking at it through some artistic lense. Just because Ian committed suicide does not mean Adrian copied him out of some weird idolization. Adrian had been suffering from severe mental illness for years when he died. Have some respect.
