That’s why when you’re doing an impression of someone’s accent you have to be spot on or else it just comes across as super racist
@skybluemarshallАй бұрын
@@ryguy081399 Back in the 90s, I used to do spot on impressions of all my Chinese, Vietnamese coworkers and really just anyone with an interesting voice or accent. Could be English, German whatever. I tried to be as accurate as possible. They loved it. They would stand around me and say, "Do Tang! Now, do Quang! Here comes Hung. Do Hung! Now do Colin" (our English Director of Manufacturing). I put them in tears and I didn't even crack that many jokes. I mostly just said the things that they would say to me in a conversation. Different times now. I stopped doing impressions at work long ago. I miss it sometimes. People laughed, found it entertaining and asked me to do it for them. I started very young. I used to make my mom laugh herself silly when I was 5 years old in the 60s. I would do impressions like: Ed Sullivan, Alfred Hitchcock, Humphrey Bogart, William Shatner. Now, I've pretty much given up impressions completely. It's risky, because, you when you're into doing it, they just start popping out of you super easy and if you accidently do an ethinic one, people will flag you. Occasionally, I'll bust out a little Christpher Walken just for old times sake. No complaints. I never meant to offend anyone, but it was a lot of fun for about 35 years.

@francescalittle5 ай бұрын
@@KeizerHedorah I don't understand this "UK rapper" comment (which you have repeated more than 5 times in different places, LOL). Sean Paul is not a UK rapper. He's a Jamaican artist who does Dancehall and reggae. I have no issue with comedians doing a good Jamaican accent but Brody's imitation was overdone, cringeworthy and ignorant. If he was playing a character in an SNL skit then no one would care but he did this ignorant parody right before introducing a Jamaican artist. Who does that?

Homosexuality is (was?) not big on Jamaica. Listen to some jamaican dance hall and reggae and you'll see they don't like batty boys. Brody might even have said "kill a(ll) battyboy" or something like that (but I'm not completely sure what that "kia" sound is supposed to mean, it might just be mumbo jumbo), which would further explain the ban even back when this was aired.

Plus if he wasn't allowed to do it, wouldnt snl have stopped him while he was doing it?
@bjones84702 ай бұрын
That’s what I was thinking. From what I hear of snl the opening monologue is written for the host. There may be some input but I believe it was pitched to him and he thought it was funny. It had to go passed a read thru, various rehearsals and dress rehearsal to make the show so there was most likely plenty of time for someone to say something

I was going to think that Sean Paul didn't care when Adrian Brody was doing that bit. He thinks it was very funny the way he talks. So it looks like he is going to defend him after the episode had ended. Was that it or no? This is what all the fuss was about? I was expecting something truly egregious. He sounds like the Wayans family and every other American comedian who tries and fails to do a Jamaican accent. In fact, his rendition, awful as it is, sounds better than every Living Colour skit lampooning Jamaicans and every time Taye Diggs or Dave Chappelle tried to do a Jamaican accent. Not offended.
