When you switched to the second pattern and said "and a tiny one on the inside" I thought you meant a tiny asa-no-ha pattern on the inside and that was about to blow my mind haha - Amazing work as always!

It’s all about those jigs in the end =) The 45° one isn’t so bad to make, but the others must have been real pains to dial in. It looks like they’re basically perfect, which is impressive if you did them by hand. Looking forward to seeing how these fit in the boxes!

Thank you Josh! Initially I made the jigs at a table saw. After some use in making maple strips kumiko they kinda wear off and I have adjusted them by hand with the plane. It's not so hard, with a shooting board, add a miter fence, adjust with an angle gauge and start shooting. Mine are from acacia wood, super hard, but oak or beech, or even ply/mdf will work too.

Thanks! Check for Mike Pekovich from FWW magazine, is the same design he used for kumiko jigs. Mine were made on a table saw at a friend.

Thanks! The smallest I have is a 3mm one. If I need thinner I sometimes used an allen key with the end sharpened, beveled.

Oh yes, that's its maker name, found it once but in the meantime forgot. I've bought them once from axminster uk, at sale, about 50% less. Stupidly I got only the Dozuki and Azebiki, didnt took the rest of ryoba, kataba, mawashibiki etc Now they don't sell them anymore. Thanks for reminding me the name :) Found them in other places

Adrian Preda no worries! I’m slowly putting together a set of Mitsukawa saws. Interestingly, he there isn’t a dozuki in his range - only kataba. :)

Yes, there is this asanoha pattern in hexagonal shape. And, I think I saw some guys recent on instagram making a very look alike snow flake kumiko

Asta e tei, e foarte usor de prelucrat. Am mai folosit artar/paltin, iese foarte frumos la rindeluit, ca de portelan, spre deosebire de tei, care pare mai fad, dar foarte greu in a prelucra acele unghiuri, se rupe fibra la sfarsit, daca nu e la 0 cu peretele jigului. Nuc voi vrea sa mai incerc in viitor, e moale, si da contrast.

imi place foarte mult cam tot cetine de japonia , dar cel mai mult arhitectura si maiestria cu care lucreaza lemnul si in ultimul timp am descoperit Kumiko, mi-ar place sa incerc sa fac si eu macar in pic din ce faci tu , dar la mine e mai greu , ca un am scule dintr-alea faine ca ale tale , dar idea unui atelier minimalist cu , scule de calitate in care poti creea calitate un neaparat cantitate, ma fascineaza complet . inca o data, iti multumesc pentru inspiratie si astept utmatoarele filmulete cu nerabdare.

Multumesc frumos pentru aprecieri! Nu trebuie sa te sperii de scule :) Se pot face si lucruri frumoase si cu scule putine si chiar diy-te. Multe proiecte de inceput pot si chiar sculele in sine. Si eu am inceput cu un Ryoba si un Stanley block, apoi luna de luna mai luam cate ceva, si tot nici la 25% cat vreau nu am ajuns :)

Grazie Marco! E perfetto (almeno quanto puoi fare a mana) perche quell riferimento al inizio e transferito su tuti i latti del quadro. In effeti questo si verifica ala fine quando taglio tutti quelli pezzi picoli con angoli. Se lo taglio tutti uguali, e non c'e nessun spazio tra di loro quando li monto in quelli quadrati, significa che tutto il modello e perfetto quadrato, uguale etc

what wood is this? ive been tryin to carve minuature peices form old crates wood sheats and tey crumble. seeing these wood make me wanna forget reclaiming these crate and just buy a nicer wood type

Basswood/Lime tree. The most suitable for carvers. It's soft enough and easy to work with
