ADV English dub version of my "Misato-chan" video ( • 𝑀𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑜-𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛 ).
I had to edit this from 0 again 'cuz the project files belongs to the Japan dub Misato-chan has been deleted, I added extra scenes too.
Raw by bonkai77.

yes i feel like in older dubs there was more variety in voice types instead of in modern day where theres like 5 fonts of anime voices anymore 😢

@@solardriftx1170 There are some modern anime VA's I like, Matthew Mercer being an immediate one, Bryce Papenbook as well, and some others I'm not immediately thinking of, but that's something I missed about older dubs that you just said; the variety. No exaggeration, I legit can't tell who's who when it comes to anime dubs because honestly everyone sounds the same. But apparently they sound different enough to where people can recognize their voices on the fly, so, I don't know.

It's not about Modern vs Old. The ADV Eva dub was just had very very good performances in it's later episodes.

Keep in mind Allison Keith was just 22 and in college back in 1996 when she recorded this: This is very impressive work for one of her first major roles in Anime. I prefer the ADV dubs over all others. Always have and always will.

Fun fact: She's based on Sailor Moon. Once you know that, you can definitely see it in how she mixes a general carefreeness and "slack off"-attitude with a childish tendency to overreact to adveristy (like her clothes being damaged, being mildly insulted by someone, ect), but is at the same time super sociable and friendly to everyone she meets. Also, Sailor Moons over-eating tendency has been translated to a, well, over-drinking tendency.

Honestly, I love Usagi/Bunny and I'm so familiar to the character and series, yet I would not have been able to see it. I would not say she is very childish, but she has a complex character with a serious/mature and light-hearted side.

There's something special about the ADV dub, and I can never really pinpoint why I love it. Alison Keith added so much charm to Misato.

Back in the 90's ADV only got 2 episodes at a time to translate and dub so the actors didn't know the full scope of their characters' arc in the story. So, Misato acting like a drunken aunt in the first few episodes and gradually morphing into the harden commander while in Nerv central and being an all-around badass wasn't know to Allison Keith at the start of recording. Putting up the "mask" of a carefree spirit around Shinji feels more authentic because Allison Keith didn't know it was only a "mask" which literally adds to the massive undercurrent of psychological theories of identity which permeates the show.

The dub isn't perfect, it has problems, but it has character. One of the things I've always enjoyed about anime is cheesy English dubs with ridiculous VA direction. I appreciate the Japanese dubs too, but there's something about not just translating, but *localizing* a dub that makes it accessible, and I don't think it's inherently disrespectful to the source material either. That said, when things are just badly translated as to change the meaning of words, I can see why it annoys some folks.

I've enjoyed the ADV dub since the late nineties. Still blows my mind that each actor performed their lines individually, as most of the dialogue sounds like they were together in the recording booth, having actual conversations. Somehow between the script choices and the way each actor delivered their lines, they managed to capture a certain chemistry among the cast. Because Misato and Ritsuko speak to each other in such a relaxed and informal manner, you already suspect that they've been friends for a long time, well before it's ever officially stated that they've known one another since their college days. Also appreciate how all of the voices sound rather distinct from one another. I can listen with my eyes closed and still know exactly which character is speaking. I particularly like Aaron Krohn's portrayal as Kaji Ryouji. Instead of going with a stereotypical deep, macho-sounding voice, he comes off as much more playful and irreverent, as if he's constantly flirting with every female in his periphery. We find out later on that he can be deadly serious where his work is concerned, but most of the time he's really trying to project this persona of a charming playboy as a smokescreen.

Thanks for showcasing alisons portrayal of misato im sure a lot of netflix dub watchers will skip it and never know about these iconic voices. The netflix dub is more consistent and professional but the voices themselves i find more fun and fitting im the adv dub. The Netflix voices are less interesting, but i think theyre objectively better. Obviously japanese is still the best way to go

Anybody agree if Disney+ should bring in the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion collection? Movies, TV shows, everything. It sure would be nice if somebody come along, launch the streaming site internationaly, but no 'kids' profile, which Netflix & Amazon Prime Video has & i mostly use said profile in the 2. & that's pretty much what Disney+ did.

I'm going to say no. That wouldn't be a good thing. Look at what Disney does to content that "doesn't fit their brand" whatever that means. Can you imagine just how much would be edited and censored from Neon Genesis evangelion on a Disney streaming service ? Personally, I'm still none too happy with how Netflix treated the original English dubbing cast in favor of getting new actors for this anime (which if you're interested in knowing the full story on that, feel free to search that up). So, short answer is no.
