Join me for my 2-day Advanced Offroad Training on my KTM 1290 Super Adventure S with the Enduro Action Team in Meltewitz near Leipzig. This is actually the first proper Offroad Training on a large adventure bike for me. I had a half day beginner's training with my BMW R 1200 GS back in the day which was cut short right after lunch with a broken clutch so we did not really get past riding around cones on a patch of grass.
I did an 2-day offroad training with small 250 cc Hondas in Mallorca in 2017 with my brother and really liked the experience on a small enduro motorcycle and the occasional ride along a forest path concluded my level of offroad experience.
So, these 2 days with the Enduro Action Team was such a positive experience that I will be back for more. There was this positive vibe right from the start - lots of laughter and tons of fun in the dirt. Bob - our instructor - did an excellent job in explaining the basic and would increase the difficulty level as time went on.
I learned a lot and left with a big smile on my face. Thanks for teaching us well Bob - and a big shout out to my group: Rudi, Ralf, Thomas, Klaus, Kate, Roberto and Oliver and and Hans Werner & Michael whom I stayed with at the Pferdehof in Meltewitz.

Great job, image quality and editing are amazing. I had the same 1290S in black as you have for a time. While I don't regret switching to my current GSA, I still find it beautiful when I see one. :) Big bikes are intimidating offroad but it's so fun and rewarding. 👍

Excellent video. I particularly like the combination of different camera positions and the drone footage really helps give an idea of the environment that you were riding in. I've done some off-road training on my GSA and that steep sand bank climb towards the end of the video would have freaked me out completely - I hate riding in sand!

Thank you very much for your nice comment. That gravel hill towards the end was actually quite scary for an offroad beginner like me. I was not going to do it again ;-) I would have tried the uphill part but good thing I did not. Some guys in the expert group needed multiple attemps - so that is for next time then ;-)

I kid you not, a split second before you fell in the grass I was thinking this about your bike. “Well I likely won’t ride my KTM 1290 SAS like that when I get it, but I like how a few different brands are represented here. After all riders and skill vary….(crash coming at end of thought) and I want to judge a bike by its capability and what it can do”…CRASH!….” Well that’s a fair demonstration of its limits😂😂”

I am so glad I went on this off-road journey with these large adventurer bikes. My first motorcycle still had to endure my learning curve and saw plenty of ground contact. Now 4,5 years after this training things are very different- I still have the occasional „crash“ but I ride with a different level of confidence now 😉

@@MotoVibesthat’s great. Professional instructors always help. Once heard a story years ago of this army private fresh out of basic training. He is in EOD class to learn how to disarm and dispose of explosives. At the end of that training he asked his instructor if there was a faster and easier method. The whole class leaned in to hear the response of the instructor. “Of course there is a more reliable, shorter and faster method of learning how to disarm and dispose of explosives. It’s called…the trial and error method!”😂 I prefer classes😂 remember. Experience is the hardest teacher as it always gives the test first and lessons come later😂. So how is the R holding up on off roading so far?

Somehow I really doubt that would happen - even on the 2021 model 😉 the 2021 also comes with an off-road mode and should not be any less capable off-road than its predecessor. I have to wonder how well this particular KTM reseller know the motorcycles he is trying to sell 😉

@MotoVibes 4 жыл бұрын
Well - this is not a fuel saver of a bike - you are looking at the most powerful Adventure Bike on the market but it very much depends on how you ride it - I do not really measure the consumption or care for it - but I am guessing 6-7 lites/100 km. More if you ride it hard. Twice that much at very high speeds or the race track. I think that is reasonable considering the 160 horses it feeds ;-)

Naja.

@@im_justin You really need to see for yourself - maybe you have longer legs or it does not bother you as much. There is really no good option to lower the seat on the 1290 SAS - which for example is an option on the 1250 GS. Lowering the suspension is an option but should be the last resort ;-)

Hi, love the channel. I have a question. Thinking of buying KTM SAS 2021 and i want your feedback regarding semi-active suspension offroad. Does it work? Did you maybe experience any issues?
@MotoVibes
@MotoVibes 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The semi active suspension works offroad and it helps to set it to offroad mode (stiffer setting). However, it is excellent on-road which is was designed for and it hits its limit going on dirt roads pretty quickly - to put in in perspective - it is no worse than riding a BMW GS. With that said I wished a few times last year that I had at least the R model which has noticeably better stock suspension - you do not have to be an expert to see that right away if you switch between the S and R model. If you plan to do a good part of off-road riding I would have a look at the R model (which you can also upgrade later if the stock suspension still is not enough). For the occasional off-road fun the S would be OK though - I hope this helps (I am considering switching to the R model by the way).

 @MotoVibes The only problem is that 2021 R model isn't available yet(not even a date). I am looking at the 2021 model because it seems as a quite a big update, but with adding all the tech goodies, crashbar and spoked wheels which i would take is so close to 1250rsa price wise. I don't know what to do :D. I'm gonna wait for test drives if they are gonna be even available in Slovenia. Thank you for your time and answers.

@@Unknnownstuff There is quite a bit of hype around the new 2021 model - it is always exciting when such a new bike is anounced. However, do not get to blinded by all the marketing talk at the moment. There is nothing missing on the 2020 models that you really cannot live without - except maybe the extra 5 kg the 2021 packs on ;-) If money is an issue you will likely get good deals on 2020 models that will cost you a lot less than the 2021 model even with the most important accessories included. For the R that is a quick shifter, heated grips and a skid plate - maybe the Akrapovic if you like nice sound (the 2021 will be much quieter even with an Akra installed).

I was suprised how much fun it was to ride such a heavy bike "offroad" - obviously if you a hardcore enduro rider this just child's play but I had a blast and the KTM did really well. I was riding a BMW R 1250 GS for short while and if you are new to this the BMW will be a much easier ride because the bike carries its weight much lower than the KTM due to the inline 2-cylinder engine. My plan for 2020 is to do more of this ;-)

well, for my level it was. The Enduro Action Team offers higher training levels than this for more experienced riders. The next one up is the "intense" trainining all the way up to "instructor license" training.

The bike is just too heavy. As an offroad bike it's complete garbage. For gravel it's fine. But most bikes are with some proper tyres. If you really want a KTM, get a freeride instead.

So isses - aber eine gute Übung sein Motorrad besser zu beherrschen - und Spaß macht es noch dazu. Wer ernsthaft und regelmäßig ins Gelände möchte, der wird wohl eher nicht zu den großen Reiseenduros greifen.
