Thank you for this Father. I live in Crete and the Greek Orthodox prepare for Christmas by fasting, as in Lent, no meat. The Catholic life was always a well balanced life and we could enjoy the feasts because we prepared for them. I love Christmas too and the sense of expectation is a vital part of it, I think.

Boxing Day last year Easter buns appeared in our local supermarket! I did not partake until Easter and they were all the sweeter. So decided to do the same this advent focusing on the gift of Our Lord and like the doorkeeper will try to stay awake. God Bless you Father Brendan I always appreciate your messages.

Christmas shops tend to be in areas with lots of German ethnicity. It's traditional but not very religious.

Enjoy the anticipation period, reflect on the past year. Spare your Christmas energy, for welcoming the baby jesus, then soak in the atmosphere and celebrate. Correct Brendan, abundance lessens its value.
