tip... soak your dish sponge/pot scrubber with dish detergent and let it dry out completely. cut it into 1/2 inch or so cubes or rectangles. place a couple of those in plastic wrap or a baggie. each sponge will wash your entire cook kit at least twice before it runs out of soap, and there's no chance of dishsoap leaking into your bag. just carry enough cubes for your needs.

The wrenches on the flatware started with msr when I first started buying outdoor equipment msr had the first titanium spoon and on it you had all of the tools to fix the whisperlite shaker and whisperlite international stoves for cleaning or repair. At the time it was great because less to carry. Msr is one of the best companies I’ve ever dealt with for warranty issues. They sent me a new set of pots after 30 years of use no question asked. And it was an upgrade. Just thought I would share. Thanks for the videos

I really like the Katadyn BeFree water filter. While its lifetime filtering capacity is less than the Sawyer its still gonna last for years (unless you travelling for years ... LOL) It just rolls up so small and light and no parts to maintain or fail. You just fill it. screw the cap back on and squeeze .... Never got sick using mine. They make 3 sizes too !

I use the Stanley 2 cup set and a broken 20 dollar Wal-Mart French press screen with an Ozark trail 30 ounce lid. I just heat the water put in in the grinds press it with the screen and pop on the lid and drink. The Sawyer mini is good too. I also use the smaller life straw.

That Stanley coffee press is a great bush pot. Survival/camping tip for water. Have 1 container that is used only for dirty water. All of your other containers should be reserved for clean water. My trick is to use a camp bucket to grab a large amount of water then filter into the Bush pot wich I use to give the old 5 min boil. From there I pour into storage. Repeat untill all water needs are met.

Those seatosummit collapsable pots are cool, the only issue I have with them is that you can only safely use them on a stove, you can’t really put them in a fire/coals, that limits the ways you can cook. I prefer aluminum, or titanium pots/pans, I can cook multiple things at once on a bed of coals, and the pot adapter for the jet boil fits perfectly in it and is only a couple of ounces. The only thing with the jet boil is that it has such a concentrated flame, that it is hard to cook/regulate heat. Thanks for sharing! Good content!

Ah the cook kit...it's like which oil or tires are best. I use the same kit that I use ultralight backpacking. I have noticed many things in the moto world seem proprietary. If it isn't Klim, Rukka or Touratech etc it can't work on a bike...or is it simply you're not "cool" if you do? I use ski and pack gear and my GS buddies look at me as if I rolled up on a Harley. I've never been cool I guess. Sigh.

3:30 - The silicone sided Sea To Summit pots should not be used as a skillet. They're for preparing food with water. Frying is a higher temperature operation that will melt the silicone. Sea To Summit makes a nonstick frying pan that replaces the plastic lid in your setup.

glad someone mentioned this, i bought a military cooking kit that is all metal and low profile where its maybe twice the space and slightly more weight over the silicone kit shown. having all metal also means heating food up quicker and using less cooking fuel

I've used my S2S pot several times as a frying pan w/no melting at all. I think if you use a bit of olive oil and keep the flame on the low side it works fine
@Liberty4Ever
@Liberty4Ever 11 ай бұрын
@@motafinga6652 - Silicone is usually good to 500-550 F, so 450 F is probably safe when cooking. Without food to moderate the temperature, particularly food with water, a lightweight pan on an open flame can quickly exceed 600 F.

I admit I fall into the minimalist camp, but all I carry is an MSR Windburner (nesting stove) and a long Sea to Summit Spoon. I “cook” nothing but Mountain House freeze dried meals and instant coffee. No clean up and each Mountain House pouch is ziploc so I use them to hold whatever trash I may have. I usually do Mountain House meals for breakfast and dinner at camp, but like to find a good local restaurant (brewery) to try for lunch while we’re out exploring whatever area we’re at. To each their own!
@backcountryadvmoto
@backcountryadvmoto 4 жыл бұрын
To be honest thats exactly what I carry about 95% of the time. Except I carry the Mighty Mo, but same difference right. Mountain house is my main source of meals along with trying to find breweries along the way. The excepting to that was when I did my Canada to Mexico trip, many of the areas we were in were very remote. We were able to buy some type of grocery during the day and make a decent meal that night. 14 days of mountain house for all the meals would have gotten old, so it was nice to have the option. But, for long weekend trips over night trips its really hard to beat that set up . More real world video like this to come soon when I actually get out and ride again. Damn Covid and Snow are keeping me off the bike for another couple weeks
