The people that make backpacking stoves say that it's dangerous to use a windscreen with a canister type stove because the reflected heat can make the fuel can overheat. They all say you should use the soft aluminum wind screens only with a stove that has a remote fuel tank (outside the windscreen) like the MSR Whisperlite or Dragonfly. I'm sure you can break this rule safely but you need to keep an eye on things.

Nice set up Tim! Just had my first weekend of motorcycle camping and your videos were invaluable. The sea to summit sleeping pad worked awesome and overall feel like i limited some of the mistakes along the way from your research. Thanks brother!

It’s January, I’m in Michigan, and I am going to watch Tim’s videos repeatedly to learn from him. This brief video is very informative. I didn’t go motocamping in 2020 because of covid. I hope to go in 2021, and will be sure to use some of what I have learned from Tim. Peace!

Hey Tim, nice video. I do have one correction for you, because I've heard you say it in another video. You say you clean your hands with hand sanitizer before cooking or eating. I'm a trained chef, and my wife is a nurse and technically you don't clean anything with sanitizer. If you have dirt, oil, and grime on your hands, sanitizer does not clean that off. You need to use soap and water to wash that stuff off. Sanitizer just kills bacteria and other stuff like that, but doesn't wash anything away. I like your channel and been binge watching everything; starting from the begining.

Nice video I also have the sea to summit kit and like the kettle it doubles as a pot for me. Your coffee looked good. I use a GSI java drip and just carry ground coffee in a small container

I was skeptical of those collapsible pots myself, thank you for clearing that up once and for all. I have two bags similarly sized to yours, one is the "kitchen", the other is the "pantry". I can lean them down to half the size if I need to but if I have the room I can take all the comforts of home. Awesome review on the coffee also, I will definitely have to check into that. One of the items I would most love to shed from my kitchen setup is my percolator coffee pot, but I gotta admit one of my favorite things about camping is waking up in the morning while a fresh pot of coffee bubbles away on the fire or my camp stove. The sound, the smell, it just isn't camping without it, LOL. ;) Thank you for another great informative video!

I picked up the Sea to Summit x-pot, x-bowl, and x-mug. I also picked up the Etekcity stove. All very nice and light. I'll give them a trial run soon.

I have had the X pot, bowl and cup not for several years as well as a stove just like the one shown. I love them and have used them many times. For Moto-camping they work great because the X pot is compact and still allows me to cook a lot of food that you could not do in a Jet Boils style "Cup" pot. It works great for rice and noodles. If you ever fly somewhere and they serve food, keep the salt and pepper shakers, they are small and have just enough for several meals. I have a nice set I got from Delta Airlines.

Those MountainHouse meals are so good and complete it’s almost hard to justify packing all the extra pots and pans, when you could just use a JetBoil or WhisperLite and that’s it.

I love the silicone upgrade, seems awesome space saver. I also like the seasoning idea, I’ve been carying only salt so far, but hey, why not go a step further. I don’t however carry dish soap, because if you don’t use grease to cook, then you don’t really need it, you can go by with just water to clean, and it’s more eco friendly.:) And if I need somehow to use something soapy I’ll just steel a bit from my shower gel.:)

Nice! P38, I tell ya', I can't recommend that little opener enough! Fell in love with it in the military, and I think it's the best can opener ever invented. I've heard the definition of genius is the simplest solution to a difficult problem. When it comes to opening cans, it's, by definition, genius.

Tim, I had to come back here and tell you about a bag I found at a local thrift store. It's to become my kitchen gear bag. As we are winter here in Texas, I will not have a chance to try it out till spring. I hope I don't freak people out, but it's a breast pump bag... I know, strange to come across, stranger yet to consider it as a kitchen gear bag. But hear me out... It's maybe twice the size of yours, has three separate compartments. One for the Etekcity Ultralight camp stove, fuel tank, and cookware. One for dry food packets. And the Crème de la Crème? One compartment is thermo insulated. I will keep you posted how well it works out.

I've had that stove for a few years. Granted, I haven't used it in a while (I switched to a JetBoil Flash), but it is a great little stove. I love the idea of the bowls. I was able to use one of those collapsible bowls for hot chocolate just last week, and they are amazing. My JetBoil is great for heating water, but I totally get why you're carrying that cheap, but awesome, little stove. I'm planning to hit the road for some long weekends next year, so I might have to put that stove back into the rotation.

This is my kitchen is on my bike... with 1.2 h.p. I don't know how ultra-light riders do it. I want to enjoy the moment as much as the memory.

I like collapsed design of cookware but silicone has to be totally functional or another material needed . That remind my of my friend's collapsible whiskey shot glasses! Just subscribed. I came across the silicone/aluminum cook pot and set a few days ago. Like you, it was hard to believe it worked. Now seeing it in action, I'll need to order one. Now they need to develop a collapsable coffee press :-) Thanks for the video!

i started with gas bottles, but found that I was just using SO much gas that they'd only last about 3 days (I love cooking), and constantly running out of gas bottles was winding me up. I ended up getting a multi fuel stove (a Svea 123R) and then another (a Coleman) and when that died, and MSR. The Svea is my "goto" stove, and I'm currently designing and fabricating a double Svea set up with pan supports. I know that camping in the US can have severe restrictions on stove types, but the Svea is perfect for European bike camping because I've not yet found anywhere that doesn't allow me to use a multi fuel stove. Multi fuel stoves are particularly appropriate for bikes because you don't even need to carry a separate fuel supply, just take some out of the tank. The Svea is still my favourite because it is so incredibly robust and needs almost zero maintenance. I found that the Coleman was difficult to maintain (and I got absolutely no help from Coleman) and the MSR is great, but the head needs to be pegged down or it is even more unstable than the Svea. If you can find them, the old 35mm film canisters were perfect for storing condiments etc., small, plastic and seal-able is what you need, and preferably with a wide opening. Some of the European herb companies (not Schwartz, unfortunately) sell their herbs in plastic pots. I find the best places to find them are the Arab shops we have here in Spain.

Sea to Summit collapsable gear is great and well made, but you can not use them to cook over a campfire so it would not be my choice for any longer trips. Perfect for a week where you are exclusively using a stove and have ready access to fuel canisters, but not for serious adventure rides.

Honestly, when it comes to touring on a motorcycle, I would consider myself a glamper. However, watching your camping videos are making me reconsider looking into trying some real camping(who couldn’t do with a little cost savings when on a trip?). Thanks for the great videos Tim!!

Aeropress is the way to go for coffee for me.... Not that compact but I am a huge fan of iced coffee and I cold brew the coffee over night so it's ready the moment I wake up.

That’s cool to see you repurposing a camera bag and using the little containers for spices. Your finished kit is pretty darn smart. Worth taking notes; thanks Tim. Realistically I’m figuring I have 120 + pounds of weight I can load up on a motorcycle and experience no effects since the motorcycle is designed for a 300+ pound load capacity and I weigh in at #175 . Why worry about ounces when it’s a machine doing the hauling and not a bicycle or me? I think designing a carry all to fit over and behind the saddle bags to maintain a low CG would be a good idea. We tend to think the tail lights should be the end of the bike. However; a detachable light weight rigid frame carrier might look odd at first but it might be more functional than piling a load upward and changing the entire CG for cornering and causing wind drag. I don’t like the idea of a trailer but I wouldnt mind a detachable optional carrier as long as it didn’t affect the bikes handling. Aesthetics of such a carrier would be relatively easy to blend into the bikes features. What do you think? I’ll bet Honda comes up with something along this design concept within the next 3 to 6 years. I think trunks or behind the rear wheel storage compartments on motorcycles is the next big design change.

That has to be the most compact kitchen setup I've ever seen, great job! I try my best to live & eat as clean as possible & have recently chgd out all my water bottles bpa free but even were I bought them they couldn't tell what that is. can u tell me what bpa & bps free really is? thanks

All Sea to Summit and Jetboil products are made in China. There are good alternatives like MSR, check the label.

Wow you carry alot of the same shit I do. Those little Chinese stoves last forever .I bought three ten years ago and am still carrying the the original one.the mora knife your carrying will get you in any can so you can toss the can openers I carry the robust mora on my pack and a buck knife on my side another tell tale of my age. Also I dehydrate all of my own food so I dont need cooking utensils ,oil,or spices as the food was seasoned when cooked. Just boil water and marry the two. I've never had a good store bought dehydrate meal.if I have to supplement my food with caught stuff then on a stick works for me.haha. I enjoy your videos. So far you've been a little less about the crap and all about the ride and I can tell you love the bad times just as much as the good ones. Hell how could we separate them otherwise ?

I came across the collapsible Sea to Summit cooking gear in 2016 and have used it a lot, so I can confirm that - if you follow the instructions - this is a lasting kit. The smaller pot 1.4l x-pot fits into the bigger 2.8l pot. They also have the X-pan if you want to go all the way. I would not advise to go for any stove fixed on the top of a canister. You may not always have a steady table / surface for cooking. Its shaky especially if you boil water or stir food due to the high center of gravity and we had it more than once that our food ended up on the floor when we were using those. Also when the canister gets near empty you would like to be able to turn it upside down to get full usage of the remaining gas. So my advise would be a stove with stable feet - I use the Primus Easy Fuel which works well for many years.

I saw that you use a small Mora knife for your food prep. Although amazing knifes for woodcarving, survival etc. the Scandinavian grind they have which is basically a thick wedge is kind of the worst for food preparation because it does not lend itself well for slicing. I made this observation while camping myself. Since you put a lot of thought into your kit, maybe try out a thin knife with a flat grind. That is the basic configuration all kitchen knifes are based on. An example would be an Opinel knife or most classic pocket knifes. Avoid the carbon steel versions because the acids in the food will erode them quickly. I can't think of a fixed blade version at the moment^^

How much burning time from a fuel canister ?

Plastic "sporks" are prone to breakage. Either get really high quality thick nylon UNO, or titanium.

Cooking with anodized aluminum is the leading cause of breast cancer, Alzheimer & erectile dysfunction. If you could find the same pan attached to stainless steel cast iron or porcelain. You now they make coffee packets like tea bags and you don't risk the coffee going everywhere. The XPots are really expensive.

Where do you store the kitchen overnight? I have concerns about wildlife getting into it. Bears maybe but most likely rodents.

What's the cost per cup on that coffee? I have a silicon coffee maker. Kinda like the cup or bowl you have. Same concept, folds almost flat, has a couple holes in the bottom, sets on top of the cup. Just put in a filter and coffee grounds and then poor hot water in it. Works good, used it several times. Now for a little useless information. The P38 was invented as a way to do away with the "key top" cans the military used for sea rations at the time. The reason it was named a P38 was because to open a sea ration can with it, you had to puncture the can 38 times. P38. There's some useless info, that will forever take up space in your brain that could have been used for something important. Good times.

Regards the coffee, I'm guessing you're taking your mamas advice...if ya cant say somethin' nice...=D

when your Frying pan that you must have because the silicon Pot does not do everything is the same damn size as each other, WHY us the silicon pot at all. The bowls and cups all have a place, but the pot is garbage.
