After riding for 200000 km with my 1190 Adventure, here's a what I think about all the tyres I tried.
I've been mostly riding my KTM 1190 Adventure and lately my 890 Adventure too.

Michelin Anakee Adventure is marketed as a 80/20 tire and road performance is very good, specially in wet due to high amount of silica and a thread design that has progressive grip in lean angles. It's dual compound and one of the most advanced engineered tires on the market. Maybe more aimed at beginner riders because they have no surprises and is designed to be very predictable in grip.

Damn! You like to twist that throttle hey!! If you are that hard with your right wrist i suggest you also try the bridgestone battlas ax41 adventure. Amazing offroad but a bit noisy on tarmac. You ll make it to 10000km. Otherwise the MotoZ tractionator should do for you but don't expect too much grip.

I just bought the Dunlop Trailmax Mission. I took them up to the Turkana Desert in Kenya. Tough trip and I just couldn’t get these tires to stop bouncing like over inflated basketballs. I was running 14 pounds and had my suspension dialed right back to try to get the rebound to fight this tire bounce. The carcass of this tire is so stiff I probably could have run them flat! Anyhow I’m gonna go back to E07 because you can just set the pressure at 22/26 and it’ll handle anything Africa can throw at them.

I just fitted a set to my Tenere 700, and the bike is horrible offroad, bouncing and chattering front and rear as if I had overinflated them massively. Trying to dial it out with the suspension settings but not having much success. Shocked at what a tranformation (negatively) these tyres have caused.

@@Hutchie2112 I can’t understand why they are so popular? Now that I’ve had them for about 13k Km, they still appear to have plenty of tread but damn they sure are slippery now. Not only do I deal with bouncy offroad, I need to contend with rear wheel slides in the subtle damp of the morning commute!

@@jaywhoisit4863 You know, I thought it was just me being hyper sensitive to tyres, because I am feeling the rear wheel slide out, especially at low speed , e.g. taking a right hand junction, move off, rear wheel slips to the side slightly. People are raving about them, and I feel like I have broken my bike by fitting them. Thanks Jay, I genuinely thought it must be me, because you never hear this side of these tyres, eh.
@jaywhoisit4863
@jaywhoisit4863 2 жыл бұрын
@@Hutchie2112 and your ride doesn’t have electronic aids for rear wheel slip. It gets worse with tire wear. I’ve got to fiddle with my traction control depending on the time of day, which is annoying. Mornings are cool and slightly damp, afternoons are scorching hot and bone dry. But really the surface doesn’t change that much that I should have to preplan computer slip settings. No other tire required this fiddling unless it was pissing rain or I was actually offroad. Anyhow, you’ll have this tire for 20k Km. Best of luck!

Hello. I believe the shinko 705 are some of the best tyres you can find for wet and cold. Longevity is also great on those. Alternatively i would go for the avon trailmaster v54. Very soft compound and average durability. Anlas is the only brand that makes specific tyres for cold temps and rain. Check their website for more info as i don't recall the specific name and model of their winter tyre.

I think the Shinko 705 ( well the front anyway) is a dangerous tyre , most conservative riders that don’t push the bike much would never notice, that tyre through me of my bike ( as it wouldn’t grip on braking hard just skidded) this tyre put me in hospital 🏥 with a brain 🧠 bleed 🩸. First off for me in 35 years ( on road anyway) and I totally agree with the K60,s wet weather grip VERY DANGEROUS in the wet . Personally I run the M21 Pirelli rally Ross front on my ADV bike ( it’s knobby but provides unbelievable grip on and off road and actually my last one would of got around 12000kms out of it - if I reversed it .Rear the Motoz Rallz fantastic grip off road and quiet good on ( even on wet )

thanks for the feedback mate! I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the 705. for some odd reasons I found them absolutely great. I had maybe 3 set of those and they all behaved splendidly. even on snow! I mean, this could also be a coincidence too, but I think it's a good tyre for the price in any case. I still have to try the Motoz. I'll do it as soon as I land in australia for sure!

@PaoloCattaneo
@PaoloCattaneo 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I believe Mitas only had the E07 for some times (I had the dakar version) on 150/70 size. And then they made the E07+ now for bigger bikes (170/60 sizes) which you can get the Dakar as well (20% more longevity "declared").

I've a Guzzi Stelvio currently on E07+ and a KLR650 currently on K60's, the location is Ontario, Canada. I don't ride much below 7 deg. C. The E07+ is excellent on paved surfaces and firm surfaces such as compacted gravel roads but not quite as good as the E07 on loose slippery surfaces. Both are 50/50 with the E07 seeming to have a slight bias towards more slippery off road surfaces and the E07+ seeming to have a slight bias towards more compacted and paved surfaces. For me these kinds of tire are much more useful than a 70/30 or 80/20.

Have to ask you! I live en Denmark and ride all year. What tyre will you suggest for all weather riding. I’m looking for a good tyre in the winter months, but also for rest of the year. Here it’s usually wet and temperatures around just below 0 degrees Celsius and up to 6-8 degrees Celsius. Only tarmac and a little bit of gravel. Hope you can help me?
@PaoloCattaneo
@PaoloCattaneo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, a pleasure to help! So, i assume you ride mostly tarmac, hence for such wet and cold conditions i would recommend a soft compound and a 70-30/90-10 tyre. I found the tkc70 being a really good tyre in all situations. Of course any tyre would loose grip on wet but there are specific companies that produce products designed for cold temps. I rode with the avon trail master that came with the 890 adv and they were really soft and good for low temp. The bridgestone ax41 street are really good too, and a bit harder than the avon. Otherwise check the anlas which is the only company that has "winter tyres". I never tried those except the capra X (which were awesome) but i m sure they ll be great to ride up there. Cheers

@PaoloCattaneo
@PaoloCattaneo 3 жыл бұрын
Mate, i'm 6.3. The bike is not too small but it's fine. unfortunately except the 1290 we are a bit too big for any other bikes! I feel comfortable with this 890 now, having the preload setting to maximum and the powerpart seat, It reaches 870mm, which is pretty much the same height of the 1190. The perks of being slightly "small" for big guys like us, is that it becomes suuuuper easy to handle in offroad. while instead you have to manhandle the 1190-1290 all the times, especially when changing direction or in quick S turns. The 890 has averagely 30kg less to carry than the bigger sister. And it shows. the 1290 is a totally different beast.

I think tires are important, but not as important as the rider.. A good rider can ride on any tire and make it work and why I chose the heidenau K60 scout for my adventure bike, as they have one of the longest lasting treads and is good on road and off road. I also chose the cold compound version to help in wetter and colder weather, slightly less lifespan, but remarkably better in cold and rain conditions..
@Mattventuring

@@MrWizardofozzz Another way to look at it is that all riders reach the tyres limits when off road (even gentle riding involves a little sliding) but only the best get near it when on road. So think it best to bias more towards off road
