Finn being a doctor makes a lot of sense with what is revealed in The Islands arc.

I'm surprised you didn't mention something that really stood out to me in this episode: the parallels between Martin and the Grassy Wizard. When Fern confronts his creator, he starts asking him questions about his origins, just as Finn did. And then, when he finds out he's a jerk, Fern punches him very similarly to how Finn punched his dad in The Tower. He even learns to let go by the end of the episode, after he's punched his creator, just as Finn had to do with Martin. Martin and the wizard even look sorta similar! Long beard, bald head and such.

My reaction to Fern's hair was "HOLY SHIT. It's so beautiful."

You have to remember that Fern and Finn are seperate entities they only share memories up to season 6 episode 19, and therefore Fern missed a lot. Stakes, Orgalorg, The comet,The Visitor, The Dentist The Stakes miniseries, The Hall of Egress, The episode where Finn apologized to Flame princess, and a whole bunch of other important character growth episodes. These weren"t experienced by Fern as a human, but as a detached sword who couldn't take any voluntary action, risking real consequences, and therefore couldn't grow from these actions made by Finn. You could see that his last character growth episode as Finn is "The Tower" and though he ends up mellowing out from wanting to confront his dad, he didn't get Finn's direct confrontation with him like in the visitor. Hence why he's not yet a well rounded character despite what he originally seems both in his design as Finn, as well as his literal round design. We see those booty shorts Fern! Just don't expect TOO much of Fern's moral compass to steady for at least a season or two. (As that's how long it took Finn.)

So, Fern is actually both the Grass Sword and Finn Sword, plus the grass octopus spider curse.

Is Dr Finn a foreshadow to his mom being a real doctor ?

When fern was so violent in the grass maze it reminded me of flame princess in that episode with finn and her dungeon crawling

You should know that Dr.Finn is higher on the tier list than Finn before complaining that Dr.Finn is a waste of a slot for being a stronger and slower version of Finn.

As a medical students, it brought a really good point that the medical profession is facing right now. It's not just the medical know how that makes you a doctor, but also the compassion and the "naive optimism" that is breed out of students, to when they're doctors, the cane out like Doctor Princess It shows the two sides of medicine, with Finn being student who first begin their training and Doctor Princess as fully trained doctors

I can understand getting FMA vibes from the arm, but the grass entity is Lovecraft.

Doctor Princess stating how she became a doctor was definitely the funniest joke in the episode and Ferns character has been so well developed in these last two episodes, all this is getting me really hyped for the Island miniseries!

I honestly wish that Fern didn't decide to stay at the treehouse. Being around his original self whilst also having an identity crisis isn't healthy, and since Fern is basically a new individual he'd have to find his own friends that Finn doesn't have.

Doctor Finn is such a huge foreshadow wow

Fern's personality seems to me to be the result of Sword Finn's identity fusing with the Grass Sword's own identity(if it can be called that), but like you mentioned, the Grass Sword seems like it might be separate from the cthulu-looking curse that took over the Finn Sword. So is it possible that the grass sword was infected by it at some point? I was trying to think of when something like that could have happened and figured that if GW didn't know anything about it, there were two ways the sword might have been infected by the curse, assuming the curse itself isn't the spirit of the sword. Grassy wizard might have unknowingly used cursed materials when he created the sword, adding this "emissary from beyond" on top of his own intended curse. But it's also possible that the grass sword was infected while in Finn's possession, and since he's "from beyond" it could have happened while Finn was out in space. The event that comes to mind was when Finn's arm had just been ripped off and he fell into that pool of Guardian blood. It's possible that the blood carried something evil inside of it that carried into the flower that would re-sprout into the Grass Sword and then go on to create Fern. That seems like a long shot to me, but It's the most likely I can think of without assuming that the curse is the actual spirit or soul of the grass sword. Other than that, I wonder if Sword Finn is still "in the cocoon". Seemed like he was completely powerless against the curse, so maybe he's still trapped and dormant inside of Fern? That might mean his true identity is the Grass Sword, left in control of the body while the curse keeps itself silent while also silencing the Finn Sword. Maybe the Grass Sword is also feeling Finn Sword's memories meshing with his own?

One thing I really like about the title card is the foreshadowing of how finn becomes more of a pacafist in the final season or so and how fern becomes more aggressive and violent

both plots were about identity, finn could had end up being a doctor but he is not good at it because finn is a adventurer who fights evil that is his identity. both finn's were passing through a identity struggle, the real finn because of what happened to Sara he thinks that he's meant to do something else than fighting evil and grass finn thinkd he's finn and therefore go in adventures and fights evil but he isn't so the same way that the real finn trying to be something that he isn't (a doctor) goes wrong, grass finn trying to be finn goes wrong as well and for the s simuar reason (i think it's because he's finn mixtured with something else).

How do you feel about the idea that Grass Finn (GF) and Human Finn (HF) are paralleling the childhood and adulthood? A major theme these past few seasons has been Finn's transition from a boy to a man. In the first 2 episodes, we're introduced to GF who has been stuck in the sword this whole time and so hasn't had a chance to mature. This is shown in the activities of both the characters. GF going on adventures and fighting evil while note really understanding the difference between grey areas and seeing the world as good vs evil. HF however, is taking a more adult role as a doctor and helping others, finding some joy in it having it "feel right" although with some rough edges. Another interesting little detail is how GF describes himself and HF. (Episode 1) When he walks into the tree house, he takes a wiff of the room and describes it as a big boy "Musk". He also describes the cupcake as "big sugary trash like a big boy likes". He's even wearing a bib and throws a tantrum to get his meat loaf. I think these two episodes really highlight how much Finn has become an adult by showing us a reflection of who he was before. I'd love your thoughts on my interpretation of these elements!

Why does Fern still consider himself human?

I loved hearing your thoughts on this. Admittedly I actually gasped when Fern first punched grass wizard! There was definitely a comical element to it but it made me uncomfortable. Fern's difficulty handling ethics is something I can't wait to see explored further. And I'm extremely excited to learn more about the lore behind his origins! I haven't seen FMA, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were intentional references to it in Adventure Time, or if the crew took some inspiration from it.

I just watched the islands Mini Series XD

i thought the curse was the one in control the whole time but had lost most of its memories when it combined with sword finn but had most of sword finn's memories. the grass curse did say it would be the one doing all the talking.

(text contains some spoilers of island mini series) Really enjoy watching your videos, they always make me think somewhat deeper about each episode and realize things I missed. I'm really looking forward to watch the remaining videos about the Adventure Time island mini series, especially on what your thoughts is about the remaining humans, like why they seems to be Swedish :) I got myself a happy surprise when the old lady Alva, on the first island Finn got to, started speaking Swedish to her bear in boots Albert. At first I thought that maybe just the people on the first island happend to be Scandinavian (because of the names of the rest of the crew in Alvas's film, even though it was namned "Skaderapport: film nummer ett 3/1", Swedish for "Damage report: film number one 3/1"), and it kind of made sense since Ice King was in it and he got the crown from a Scandinavian dock worker... BUT then in a later episode when Susan Strong follow her old friend Frida (/Freida) on the last island she enter a toy store with the sign "LEKSAKER" (swe. "TOYS") so that have to mean that the humans there can understand and use Swedish in writing, even if they speak in English to each other, which is kind of weird... Anyhow, I will wait patiently for your next upload and hopefully some questions be answered (sorry for the crappy English) :) (and ofc I'm Swedish lol)

The islands we're quite interesting, very rich in terms of lore, but quite heavily underwhelming. The themes touched upon we're deep and interesting, but all left heavily under-explored, to a point, where i wish they didn't even try. I mean the virtual reality island had so much potential for deep and dark exploration of human nature, and the concept of virtual reality has unbelievably deep philosophical implications, yet i the miniseries it was just a lame 90's interpretation of vr, as an interesting video game or something. And there were other instances where a potentailly mindblowing premise was just kinda poked, and that's it... Hope you make an analysis video about it soon.

You said everything I had in mind about Fern's self discovering and interactions with others. Altough I have the feeling that that spider octopus may have some contributions to his personality, but I don't have anything to back that up. The vibes that this little entity gives me are more of Lovecraft works. I mean, come on... An octopus cursed being... Cthulhu has to be some inspiration for that xD. (Also, now that I think about it, his little singing "He's waiting for the raising" also could be inspired by the book Call of Cthulhu. Is a very long shot, but it could be that xD).

i cannot wait for your islands reviews. they drop massive amounts of lore and i'm llooking forward to seeing it get picked apart.

Just start working on that Islands mega review ahead of time because it's a meaty bunch of stuff to take in. Season 8 is easily becoming my favorite season in a long time. Much like the Stakes Miniseries Islands, captures the essence of the earlier seasons of Adventure Time . This coupled with the very strong start from the first 4 episodes of season 8 give me a lot of hope. Simply because it feels like they've gone and refocused what the show is supposed to be about again. Bringing it back to being about Finn and Jake at it's core and it's amazing. Making it about going on adventures, and relationships, and having fun while your at it. Episode 3 felt like a throw back on many levels too. Even the humor has been on point to recapturing earlier smart and clever quips. I love the closing line of Episode 3 "Not the swan, that's where the pups came from". It just reminds me of the slick and clever lines I used to love coming from Jake.

I honestly can't wait to see what the writers do with Furn. So much potential in one character

Hey dude; I don't know if you have seen the Episodes 7 - 14 (Island mini series). I'm sure you are working on some reviews as we speak... ...but man what an anti-climax! 7 seasons we have been waiting to find out about Finn's origins (where he came from, his mother, the rest of the humans) yet I felt they handled it all so poorly. Finn's identity struggle has been a continual theme throughout Adventure Time, with each new season teasing small fragments and revealing bitesize information, that we have been slowly piecing together. I just feel this Island series (without saying too much for those who haven't watched it yet) was rushed and emotional, key moments - such as Finn meeting his Mother - were underplayed, dissatisfying and down right disappointing. The saving grace of the series was 'Martin and Min' Looking forward to your reviews...

My bet: "grass sword curse" is evil, will take over fern. Finn will have to take care of him (which will be really difficult, maybe its last battle in the show, since fern is as metamorph as jake). ok maybe the confront wont be so direct but finn and fern will eventually compete (maybe for the love of that forest princess). maybe grass curse has relations to orgalorg and other cosmic monsters

It's worth noting that Fern does refer to himself as being the Grass Sword, even when this is not true. He is a mixture of the Grass Demon/Curse and Sword Finn, and it feels like he mixes both personalities. He indeed used to be a Sword, and now he is Grass. Grass + Sword = Grass Sword.

So looking at blade of grass we see Finn bind to the grass sword turns to grass then disintegrated all things that happened to Finn as Finn sword

I like to think that the grass sword is made up of two entities: the grass and the curse. The curse only exists to provide a neural link between the user and the blade, since the blade might have a different will than the user. I mean, how else can Finn just perfectly slice an apple so much that TT freaks out in one episode and then be unable to hit a bunch of eggs flying at him on the next? The grass sword itself didn't have a link established with Finn until he accepted it, so the blade had to predict what the user wanted. Also, notice how the curse was the one to put grass in the Finn sword, but when Fern was created Finn's identity took over. Also, Fern did not freak out at how all his basic senses didn't work for a while, and that he sounded and looked different. That is not a normal response, and is probably caused by the grass sword making those feel like a natural occurrence.

slightly spoilery theory, there's the four elements they've directly referenced in AT, but does anybody else see what I see, with them beginning to develop other elemental powers in characters other than the elementals of princess bubblegum, flame princess, slime princess and Patience. we have a true water elemental in Canyon, a grass elemental in Fern, now a lightning elemental in Bronwyn, and probably some other ones I'm forgetting. Perhaps they won't develope this idea, but there's some potential, in my opinion. Also, isn't Fern kind of even more the juxtaposition of the Lich, than Finn? The ability to create and grow plant life, versus the Lich's ability of decay?

Part of why fern may so readily refer to himself as grass sword may stem from that is what he used to be and having a body is what is strange to him.
