Grandpa used to keep worms in an old wooden box. Keeping them cool is important. Thank you for sharing this with us, Jana and Debra. Stay safe and stay cool

Back in the day, we had a wooden box with yard dirt, covered it, left it in our garage. All the worms liked it. Husband used the worms for fishing. Worked great!

If your worm farm is on(or in) the ground, sprinkle rock salt around the perimeter to prevent snails from getting into the farm...they eat them. When you go fishing, turn around and kick the ground cover to see whats there. It might be frogs, bugs, worms ,etc. But thats what the fish are eating on a regular basis. Add greenery to the bed. They like egg shells, corn cobs, coffee grounds(limited in your small farm) and need moisture. The temp should be cool(earth temp below the surface) Finely chop the food wastes and turn it under. In nature, when it rains alot the worms will come up to surface to prevent drowning...youll see them on sidewalks during the rain.

Ohh Jana. Now you have to take care of worms too, when Debra is down and out. haha, Ausia started her homestead with chickens while traveling, so why not worms. I would get miniature goats for homesteading. Seriously, the liquid the worms make that drops out of their home into the bottom container is great for watering plants, on your homestead. Debra, you'll be ready with your worm fertilization on the homestead, in the RV. Jana, are you paying attention. Water Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. haha Hugs and good luck with the new project. Thank you for another great video. Back in the 2010s, I was working and my employer was working on greening all their facilities. Part of that required all employees take online training. My favorite module was on kitchen waist management. It was all about safer, nontoxic cleaning, recycling and food waist management. I really enjoyed the vermiculture part and went and asked the department head when we were going to get the worm farm... I said I will take care of the bait... I mean worms. He just laughed and said no, we are not going to be that green,... good try😂😊. I have a composting bend in the yard at my homebase and I can always harvest nice plump worms for my fishing trips. I had a great uncle when I was a kid in Fort Collins Co. He had boxes the size of house doors in the crawl space under his house. He raised worms and sold them. He had a route from Fort Collins up into Wyoming supplying sporting goods stores. He made really good money in his retirement.

I always had a worm farm when I had chicken, the pee is liquid gold for the garden, I had roses…. I also had merely worms….

I'm familiar with the whole vermiculture concept of raising and using worms to help compost decompose faster but never thought about raising worms to use as fish bait. What a great idea if you can manage to do both. I have always composted food waste here at my stix n brix and it kind of bothers me that I will have to deal with food waste and add it to my trash while I'm on the road. I would love to be able to compost instead. Amazon has a whole 4 level "worm condo" system on sale. I might be reconfiguring space in my bus to see if I can fit one in. Y'all have got the wheels a-turning!
