I use only badger brushes, and I have never tried boar. I heard some wet shaving guru some years ago recommend cleaning with shampoo, which I do occasionally, and it works well. Shampoo is also a good wool wash.

Hey what’s up Eric. Awesome video brother. I do basically the same thing, but I’ve never put a brush in a baggy over night. That’s very interesting. I will have to try that. My break in routine is shorter and more like Frank's, but i use dish detergent first off rather than good shaving soap to get rid of that crap in the bristles. i wash the brush with detergent and water thoroughly, then soak it in a cup of the same for an hour or so. Or until i remember about it! After that, i'll lather it up with shave soap and i'll coat it with it and just leave it that way overnight by the side of the sink. T

T's Tip on breaking in your shave brush: first clean with dish detergent and clean out the bristles, wash the brush with detergent and water thoroughly... then soak in the detergent and water mixture for an hour or so... next lather up the brush with shave soap and give a good coating of lather... let it seat like that over night. Wow, very cool 🖐(high five)👍Thanks for the great Tip, and thanks for watching my friend! 👍🙂👍I was hoping you would share the way you break in your brushes... thanks again!👍

Eric, you rascal! 👍 You're going to love that SOC!! Its going to bloom out beautifully. Its my absolute favorite brush! I have two of those and they get used regularly! Like yourself, I prefer bore hair as well. I actually have a few badger brushes but haven't used any of them since my convert to bore. I have some Omega bore that I don't like near as well as my Semogue. Excellent video,Eric! 👍👍👍👍👍

Hi Eric. I received the wrong boar brush from an eBay seller. Good news is. I get to keep the Omega 5 wood and they are sending me the 4P that I ordered. Since I get to keep the other one I have used this process on it. Right now I’ve done all the soaking and hand lathering. It’s in the ziplock bag now for its overnight stay. I used Blades Grim Smolder on it. Thanks for all this great info. Tomorrow I’ll continue the process.

If you enjoy what you're doing and it's effective for you, no amount of effort is excessive, ...or insufficient. My first couple of shaves with a new boar are a little sparse and light with the lather volume and ease of application - but after those first couple of shaves, the brush softens, breaks in nicely, and the spread is easier and all is good. Basically, I break in a new brush by simply shaving with it ...but, admittedly, I can be a lazy SOB at times ;)

It's nice to know. after many many shave brushes boar synthetic's horse hair. and badger. to me silvertip shaving brushes. are still the best. next is horse hair. and then semogue boar brushes synthetic's al-tho soft are to stiff. but a good alternative if you don't like animal made brushes. regular badger brushes are ok but to me low end. silvertip is still the best for me. thanks for the vedio, also sivertip do not need a breakin soft off the bat.ready to shave with. knot size is a preference. for me. 22mm knot works. thanks for listening. might try the shave soap if the price is right.

@@AdventuresInWetShaving for one no animal is killed. second.I tend to like shaving brushes that are not to stiff and scratchy. horse hair fits this. I don't like the mix of horse hair and bristle that they are making now. 100% horse hair is a second runner up to silvertip. [ as far as I'm concerned ] others may differ. but that's their opinion. they are very good brushes. also i am not one to smell their brushes. I don't know what would posess someone to smell a brush. I never did.but i guess i judge a brush on how it works on my face. as far as boar. semogue. is one of the best. that i tried. its probably the only bristle brush i do like. its fits my criteria of soft but firm on the face. others not so much. also I don't clean my brushes or break them in. use them right out of the box. found the right brush with the right shave soap and the right razor. and the right razor blade. makes for the best shaving experience ever. you really need to try different shavers and blades and soaps to get the right combination. i have at least 8 different brushes .soaps.blades . and double edge razors. use to have 13 of each. but starting to cut down to the very best of all. take care and keep up the good videos, oh forgot. even though the synthetics are soft they are to stiff. a good brush just to rigid for me. if they would make them softer. it would be a perfect brush. this is just my personnel opinion as each face is different. you have to find your own right combination of brush. soap.safety razor.and blade.

Baume.be. has a light clean scent.. Now on my siver-tip badger - I have washed with dish washing soap; rinsed; and then soaked in vinegar to break up soap down by bottom of bristles where they go into handle.. Too much dried soap there will break off hair at the base.. learned that on a vid from Em's Place... I'll put the boar hair in a plastic bag with Baume.be. lather.. stay warm buddy ...thom

Good evening how are you?I have a question.when I put my boar brush to the stand I notice that the back side of the brush the bristles are in contact with the back side of the stand so when I pick up the brush I notice that the bristles that were in contact with the stand they have been deformed,do you think that issue gonna damage the brush?,I hope you undestand me, thank you a Lot my friend
@AdventuresInWetShaving
@AdventuresInWetShaving 5 жыл бұрын
Great questions El Katsani! ;) Yes I did have a good evening with friends and family and I'm well. Hope your evening was good and you are well. Let me ask if your brush drys out well between shaves when it's in your stand? if so that's fine and with it touching that shouldn't damage your brush in any way. As far as putting your brush in the stand and the bristles getting deformed as they are in contact with the back of your stand. You could do a couple of things... every time you put your brush in your stand make sure and rotate it so a different side of your brush touches... or you could set your brush with the bristles facing up and let it dry up side down. This is how I dry my brush after shaving. Hopefully this is helpful, let let me know if you have any other question and let me know how you get a long. Thanks for your great questions and comments, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good weekend and take care my friend! :) #Heart

Sorry if my comment came off the wrong way if the bag helps DO IT! I do what you do, but I usually use a hair dryer on low heat to dry and split the tips.........and then get it wet and do it all over again several times. I think the drying out of the bristles helps the tips split. I do let the first lather sit overnight, but just without the bag.

T, Sure thing.👍 I haven't had to used it yet the new strop I bought is like a hone in it's own. I stropped the Grandslam on it the day I got it & had the best shave yet. It's a nice looking stone I can say that. I'm not sure witch brush I like the best. Badger,Boar & a Maggard synthetic? I've only used the Boar brush once & will be breaking it in tonight. Right now I'm using the Badger brush that came in my ZY430+ shave set. It's a cheaper made brush but creates a great lather. T, I really appreciate all your help & suggestions. Have a Good Weekend my Friend.👍😃💈

@trunkerdixon 6 жыл бұрын
My post-shave routine is a few strokes on the fabric side of a strop (dry the edge) and then a few on a pasted balsa strop (stop it from dulling). i'm all about avoiding the hones for as long as i can by routine maintenance rather than waiting till a blade gives me a rough shave. Top job with the Grandslam - i like those and the GD's. You don't have to spend a ton of cash on a brush - i can make a lather with a paintbrush (!!), but they are wonderful when broken in. Take it easy on the new strop ;) All the best T
