Another reason not to soak the entire boar brush for extended periods of time: the decorative black band used to simulate the badger aesthetic is painted on. In some of the cheaper brushes it may start to dilute in the water. This happened to me with a Kent brush. The hairs were blonde with a distinctive black band: after three days of soaking in the fridge the hairs are now a dirty blonde, and the black band is not so distinctive anymore. The brush still works fine, obviously. But it's become less pleasing to the eye.
