Read our South Dakota guides: adventuresofaplusk.com/blog/category/south-dakota Check out South Dakota Tourism’s website to plan your own trip: bit.ly/southdakota-aplusk See the rest of our South Dakota trip: kzfaq.info/sun/PLZKRTK1yCEM6Wn30wCYRfOJbPtjOh5p_v Safety is our #1 priority and we want to stress that this adventure, and all future adventures, will be done responsibly and with the health of others in mind. Here are the steps we are taking everyday, including in these videos: 😷Masks and face coverings. We wear these anytime we are near others outside and especially indoors. If we don’t have a mask on in a video, it’s 99% because there was no one around. ⏰ Exploring early. We normally start at sunrise anyway because of less crowds, but especially so with COVID. We have been starting our days before sunlight so we can limit our interactions. 🧼 Washing and sanitizing our hands, especially after touching anything outside of the van. 🚐 Being in the van 95% of the time when we’re not filming. The adventures we share are a small sliver of our lives. We are staying in the van all day everyday when working and the only time we leave is to do laundry, get gas, or go to the store. 6️⃣ Keeping our distance. We are trying to stay at least 6 ft from others, which truthfully isn’t always possible (and then we make sure we cover our face).

You guys make me feel even older than my 73 years, because you have so much energy and enthusiasm! It's so much fun to ride along with you in my living room recliner and see all that cool stuff! Back in '62, when my family visited SD, the highlight near the Badlands (in addition to Wall Drug) was the 6 ton prairie dog. Check him out on Google, and you'll see that it didn't take much to thrill people in those long ago days! Anyway, I loved everything about this video....the metal dinosaur, the corn palace (unchanged since '62), the quirky sculptures, everything! I hope you guys never get tired of doing all the work it takes to make videos, because yours are really terrific!!!

This comment means so much to us, THANK YOU! ❤️ It is a very exhausting at times juggling traveling, filming, working full time, etc, but comments like this really do keep us going, so we really really appreciate the kind words! I just googled the 6 ton prairie dog and I am now bummed we didn’t see it! I love prairie dogs and very large roadside attractions lol!
@gmaneis
@gmaneis 3 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK No worries about missing the big dog. He's only 12 feet tall, and just a hunk of cement. The quirky art you found was much more fun. Just thought I'd mention ol' '6 ton' as a throwback to an earlier age when it didn't take much to excite travelers. Oh, and as for your hectic schedule and exhaustion, I can relate. Worked TV news and did a lot of feature stories in my day. They took work and lots of hours with much less efficient equipment in the 1970's, 80's and 90's, so I understand the energy it takes to do what you're doing, even with today's super quick editing programs and excellent cameras. It can suck the life force out of you. I just hope you don't wake up one morning and realize you're completely burned out and don't want to make videos anymore! Safe travels always!

@@AdventuresofAplusK You know, viewers would be disappointed if you stopped recording your adventures, and you would lose a great library of fun to save for your kids and grand kids if you ever plan to have a family, but giving that up would not be the end of the world, either. I can certainly relate to the fact that it's really a blast to visit these same places without having to worry about getting the right shot for your video, and besides, I mean no offense, but 50 years from now, the kids would probably much rather look at video games than your old videos! C'est la vie! :-)

Love what you guys did with the drone when it was difficult for you to get to the dinosaur sculpture. We did the same in Scotland as we weren't 100% sure if there was a waterfall hidden away and the ground got really boggy, so rather than getting wet feet for no reason - we sent up the drone to go investigate. "Tacos are a great plan A, B, C, D, E, F, G" 🤣 This should be your slogan! The Handmaid's Tale sculptures were haunting, almost a shame that you didn't have the morning's fog for those.
@AdventuresofAplusK
@AdventuresofAplusK 3 жыл бұрын
That is awesome! Love the idea of using the drone as an investigative tool! Haha and we need to get shirts that say that. We have taco stickers, but maybe need a new one with that slogan too! And we agree-that fog would’ve made the sculpture park extra cool!

You found some nice things in my home state. If you get south of Sioux Falls on a future trip, a suggestion for a unique meal...Chislic is a local favorite in southeast South Dakota. It is deep fried lamb on a stick, really spicy and so delicious. Goes great with either beer or pop (soda for easterners). I think I heard it may have originated in Freeman, but is available at a lot of bars and restaurants in that part of the state. A side note, I lived in China for 2 years for my US employer a few years back. I found a restaurant near my apartment owned by people from Xinjiang province (Uyghurs). They made the most amazing spicy lamb barbecue on a stick that tastes a lot like Chislic. I felt right at home. I must have eaten there at least once a week.

I currently live in Sioux Falls - fun fact, the capital city Pierre is pronounced "peer" despite being named after a man named Pierre. I'm not a native South Dakotan, but I've been told that's because the town was settled by Norwegians and they pronounced the name Pierre as peer, and the mispronunciation stuck.

Welcome, hope you enjoyed your time. Not much to see really, but we love it just the same. Simple and calming. Also agree with some others recommending to try chislic it is awesome with a 🍻! Rapid city and Deadwood (deadwood especially in the winter is amazing!) Are really fun places with tons to see. Sioux falls has alot too, I live only an hour from it and haven't really explored too much. Live by North Sioux City. Hope you found some cool things in Sioux Falls it's a pretty unique city Oh and 'peer' is pretty interesting too, just visited a few months ago living in the state for 31 years 😂. Take care and safe travels 🙂

I've live in the Sioux Falls area for 20 years and I've been by the sculpture park many times but I've never actually stopped and checked it out. Too bad the 1880 town was closed, but it's a fun attraction and you can rent historic clothing and wear it around. There's also some Dances With Wolves props there. The TRex sculpture is part of it, but there's no path to walk to it, just a unusual thing to look at along the highway.

The pronunciation of Pierre has an interesting and kind of funny back story. It should be pronounced as you said it, with a French accent, because it was first discovered by Pierre Gaultier De La Verendrye. But the locals just went with a non-French pronunciation. On another note, was kind of bummed y'all didn't stop at Al's Oasis in Chamberlain.

Great video. I visited the Black Hills the week before the eclipse in 2017 (Aug 21) and on the way out I visited the Battleship South Dakota (Battleship X) memorial and museum in Sioux Falls, and on I-90 I stopped at the Corn Palace, but missed the sculpture at Chamberlain as I detoured to Ft Thompson to stay at the Left Tailrace campground in the middle of the Missouri River. I saw large fields of sunflowers leaving the Big Bend dam heading back to I-90 on the west side of the river. So yes, I need to revisit the area when I have the time to go slow and take in the sights. I was on a schedule to see the Black Hills and be in Alliance NE for the eclipse the next Monday morning.

Where the walking skeleton man was there should have been a camel wandering around, I would assume you would have shown some footage of it if you seen it. @@AdventuresofAplusK Dinosaur Park in Rapid is really cheesy but super awesome! Cosmo House and Bear County, especially if you loved Custer State Park. Hill City and the 1880 train. I mean Rapid alone is a weeks worth of things to do. On the way from rapid to Sufu, you have Murdo car museum(I think you did say they were closed though). Minuteman Missile Vistor Center. Rushmore Tramway. not on I-90 but Ingalls Homestead (if you know anything about Laura Ingalls Wilder). You may do this in the sufu one, but Palisade Park (beautiful).
