This video and worksheet defines adverbs and gives students practice identifying adverbs. Later in the video, learners practice distinguishing between adverbs and adjectives. This video was created by a US public school teacher for ESOL students learning mainstream English curriculum.
This video includes subtitles in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese, as well as auto-translate in many languages. To view the subtitles and transcript, follow these steps:
1) Click CC to turn on subtitles.
2) Click the settings icon (to the right of CC), and choose the language you need.
3) To view the transcript, click the three dots (...) below the video and to the right. Then, click Open Transcript, and choose the language.
4) Once the transcript is open, you can copy and paste it into Word or other documents.

This is really great and clearly presented. My only quibble is that you included a day of the week among the list of "when" adverbs, as the dictionary defines the word "Friday" as a proper noun.

@EnglishUnits 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, the word "very" is underlined in #1 because it is an adverb. We know it is an adverb because it describes the adjective "warm" by telling how warm. (Many people feel confused by "very" because it sort of seems or feels like an adjective...but it is an adverb!)

What is "in the morning" In The 3rd sentence..thanks😊
@EnglishUnits
@EnglishUnits 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Little Princcess, "in the morning" is a prepositional phrase. (These often behave like adverbs and adjectives.) A prepositional phrase always begins with a preposition (in this case, "in") and ends with a noun (in this case, "morning").

how is hard an adverb? i thought if it were to be an adverb you would add 'ly'.
@EnglishUnits
@EnglishUnits 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Hope, the key is in what the word describes, rather than its ending ("ly" in this case). In this example, "hard" describes a verb (laughed), so it's an adverb. Sometimes "hard" describes a noun (a hard rock)--in that case, "hard" is an adjective. Some adverbs end in "ly," but many do not (often, straight, yesterday, today, later, earlier, etc). Also, several words that end in "-ly" are not adverbs (a daily report, a lovely day, a lonely person, etc). So, focus on what the word describes to be sure whether it's an adverb or not.
