Hi guys!
Here's some advice on DAY JOBS! As an actor, flexibility is KEY! Here are some great suggestions for the best day jobs for us.
Here are the two videos about moving to LA that I mentioned in this video:
• Moving to LA - Part 1 ...
• Moving to LA - Part 2 ...
**UPDATE: I contacted Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy about offering a flexible schedule, and they said it would vary from location to location. So if you are interested, contact your local store and see if they can be flexible with your audition schedule! :)
Give this video a Thumbs Up if you liked it, and please don't forget to SHARE and SUBSCRIBE !!

These are great tips! Unfortunately night jobs work best. You don't have to worry about conflicts. Especially same day auditions. My brother did a night job for 4 years and now is a full time working actor.

Yup, if it works for you, a night job is a great idea.

Hi, can you give some examples of night jobs or which one your brother did?

@@AnthonyCiccotto He usually did Security because he said he could sit around in an office, take naps (literally, no joke) edit his audition self tapes and his indie films, learn his lines for next day auditions. They also allowed him to transfer in the company for better paying positions. He also did hospital work at a youth facility and for the VA. He also did a job at night where he processed trucks delivering at a gate on a computer for a warehouse. Good luck!

Another part time job that's interesting is being a standardized patient. Medical universities hire actors to take part in simulations to help train med students. Sometimes it's just sitting there as they learn how to use a stethoscope while other times you're given a dossier on your character's name, their affliction, medical past, family history, life styles and habits. The students know that you're an actor and that it's all simulated but it adds to their education as working with medical mannequins can one can only learn so much. You not only memorize your character but also observe and memorize what the student does during the session and give them constructive feedback on what they're doing well and what they need to work on. Oh, and you're actually getting paid to act too! Sometimes it's something as simple as a headache or sore throat while other times you portray someone who's in the early stages of dementia, has a drug problem, an emotional crises, or has a terminal disease and is dying. The students learn that it's not just data on the patients they're expected to care for but also the emotional side. How do you tell someone they're dying? How do you deal with an abusive patient? How can you help someone who's in an abusive relationship? How do you yourself deal with those emotions?

Great advise on day jobs! Honestly this is a subject that is not talked about enough. I did have a question, what if you are just getting started in acting and don't live in LA and don't want to move there until you see if you really like acting. Is it possible to just act locally in your own state? (With a lot less options I'm sure) For example, taking acting classes or joining indie films in the local area?

Yes, definitely! I would HIGHLY advise staying put and trying it out first. Especially now, since almost all auditions are virtual anyway due to Covid.

Do you put actress/actor on your resume when applying for jobs? I always wonder if employers will look at it and think no because knowing that means gonna be going on auditions a lot.
@AngiePattersonYT
@AngiePattersonYT 5 жыл бұрын
It's up to you whether you want to put Actor/Actress or not, but either way, you need to be up front with your employer about your auditions at the interview. Otherwise you'll just keep putting yourself in sticky situations.

Hello Angie! Thanks for the good tips. I'm completely trilingual, speaking English (duh) as native language but also natively French and very fluent German. Are there any flexible day jobs off the top of your head you can think of that would use those skills? Or anything in the film industry that would use said skills? Most of what I've found online seems to be call center jobs - which is what I'm doing now (in another country, but I'd be able to go to the US as I have a US passport) and I know from experience that flexibility is the *last* thing those are! :D Thanks for your videos! I just discovered you and they've already been helpful!
