This is great advice! In the past I’ve tried to be on every social platform, but got for the last few years I’ve learned to narrow down my focus in order to create consistent, high quality content. I’d like to think that it’s starting to pay off. Thanks for sharing this Matt!

Finding this video at the very end of 2021 after wondering and feeding the idea of creating my own channel for months now knowing you put this out in 2018, almost 4 years ago, is amazing! I admire your work and believe that the whole concept of creating content worth engaging with is crucial even MORE now than ever. Thanks for the EXCELLENT work you keep delivering Matt.

Love this video. So often we're consumed with what's trending and what content will garner more subscribers, but staying true to self and constantly experimenting is, what I think, will keep people around. You have a dope channel!

DUDE! I woke up at 4:30am today to continue working on my book - and seeing a notification for a new video from you pop in was additional inspiration man! Just freakin listened to this 2 times to make sure it sunk in (even though I also watched the full interview 2 days ago). Sadly, I'm one of those people that go through these periods where I wont post to my Insta account for long periods of time and then all the sudden Im active again and wonder why my audience isn't as engaged. And even though I know that's not a good way to get people to want to constantly follow along in my story - sometimes you have to hear it from an outside source. Thanks man, Jeff.

YES YES YES! We daily vlogged for 2 years solid and just recently stopped so that we could put more intention into our content. This was a great confirmation that we are on the right track. It was a hard switch but really good for us.
@mattdavella
@mattdavella 6 жыл бұрын
Right on. There's a lot you can learn from creating that much content and I think it helps early on. But definitely think the shift going forward will be more intentional creations.
@twinsauce

We learned so much. It also offered so many amazing opportunities that we would not have received otherwise. But people like you have inspired us to push to be more intentional which has been a challenge, but ended up being much more rewarding.

Loving your stuff. It shows that you aren't just giving advice for the sake of giving advice. Your preaching what you practice.

I like GaryVee's approach to this. He says that branding and all that stuff doesn't really matter, and that you should just make content that is true to yourself. Basically "just do your thing". Some people want and can produce good daily content, but other people have a totally different approach. A good example is CGP Grey. He has a pretty large community around his videos and his podcasts even though he is putting out his stuff on a pretty inconsistent basis. And he has always worked like that. People like him probably take longer to grow a decent community, but I think their community is more likely to be loyal as well. And of course you need to be patient no matter what your approach is. By the way, I kind of disagree with her point on the algorithm. I personally WANT to see everything the people I follow post, on the platforms I use (Twitter and Instagram in particular). I try to take care not to follow too many people for this reason. Maybe I'm just old school, and this obviously doesn't apply to everyone, but saying "people don't want to see everything" is certainly not true. There's a good reason why so many people complain about Instagram's algorithm or changes in the Twitter API that might prevent third party apps to function properly.
@kinseydesignsbrands
@kinseydesignsbrands 2 жыл бұрын
I know this is 4 years later, but branding certainly matters because branding is about the identity you're being true to. It's the foundation for the position you hold in the market and the perspective in the content you put out, so it is absolutely a necessary to continually develop and manage your branding as you evolve through creating. Branding, in my perspective, is really more about your behavior that's based on your identity. Defining your identity for yourself instead of based on others expectations or what everyone else is doing, is the key to finding your own unique position that cannot be copied or replaced.

Here I am commenting cause I like the work and really do believe in the message of this video and a bunch of others. I felt like I needed to add that from what Hope mentioned in the video. This video covers something I've been thinking about recently not just because I've been seeing it out in the world but because I struggle with this every day. I'm a young graphic designer wanting to grow my IG following but I feel I don't consistently put what I think is ”great content.” But you're right, focus on a few things and try to put one thing out a week. Small steps first. I guess I just want to rush and go for the big stuff first is because that's what I'm passionate about. But it's a process and things take time. This episode resonates with me on a whole other level. Really awesome interview with Hope!!
