The terrain is rough, water is scarce, and sometimes it’s hard to tell which way to go. Despite all of that, the Art Loeb is an incredible journey! After two thru-hikes and several more section hikes, I've learned a lot about this trail. Today I'd like to share 5 pieces of advice for backpacking the Art Loeb. You'll find even more info and advice on the topic on my blog: seagrasstosassafras.com/post/...
Please check out the guide I put together from this trip! It helps me to keep doing what I do. Detailed mileage & elevation profiles, a list of planning resources, shuttle and logistics recommendations, and three possible itinerary options all in one neatly organized PDF. (While it isn’t a substitute for doing your own research and preparation, hopefully it will take the guess work out of planning your own trip.)

These points of advice feel quite helpful even as I prepare for a one day run on the Art Loeb Trail! I have been set on running northbound but your point about choosing based on the experience I want to have hit home. I do want a gradual start and end with stellar views, the big reward at the end. And I will be willing and prepared to run a bit off trail to re supply water rather than running on trail dehydrated 😅 I also got your Art Loeb itinerary from your shop and find it SUPER helpful how you broke the elevation profile into 3 chunks, works quite well with how I mentally break up a distance challenge. Anyway, so happy to have found your channel, keep up the stellar work! 🥳

Eva, I greatly appreciate your support!! I'm so glad you found both this video and the itinerary helpful to your upcoming run. It takes a strong and determined person to tackle this trail in a day 💪I commend you! If you think about it, shoot me a message about how it went. I'd love to know 😊

Really good tips-- and some I wish I had heard before I hiked the ALT. I especially like the idea of going off trail for water. My 4 liter water carries definitely were not fun and almost certainly contributed to my knee pain. Thanks for another great video and great advice!
