Hey Kelly, just set up my CIC! Got rejected first time but tried again and got accepted🎉 - once I’ve set up my community bank account I will be signing up for your mentorship☺️ love your videos! Quick questions.. do you need a supporting director or is this out of choice?

You will need a supporting director when you apply for funding but fine to just set it up on your own for now 🫶🏼

You need directors if you want grant funding yes but not if you will generate your own income :)

Anyone over 18, no bad credit issues. Best get two or three :)

Yes they can they can if doing some work

Can I ask is it a bad idea to use the CIC to do commercial work but use the profit to fund community projects? Thank you for all your info in your videos :)

So yes a cic can and should have some independent income like selling commercially. You then put the money into the cic. That can be towards the community projects and/or your pay to do work for your cic 🫶🏼

That would be totally fine :) that’s basically the idea of a cic. Income and grants go back into community projects :)

Hi Kelly can I ask about guarantors. When setting up a CIC online it asks for the details of a guarantor who will have ultimate control. However the advice is that a guarantor doe not usually take any profit from the organisation. As a founder I would want to have ultimate control but does this mean that it can not be a paid role and it would be as you stated a supporting director

Check out my course as it covers all this and more. In short you can be guarantor £1. You and your directors have to have equal voting rights. You can only be paid for work you do for your cic (I.e a project manager etc) not as a director or shares or dividends 🫶🏼

Hello and good evening I hope you are is well. I am starting a CIC at the moment and wondering if I used my my friend as a director and worst scenario I got into debt or something would they be liable? or would they be affected in anyway ? I would be super grateful for this. Thanks George

A director is not liable no. They can also resign any time. It’s just like quitting a job.
