Let's all appreciate that that woman was honest in saying that she wasn't sure if that was the guy that stole it. She said she wasn't paying attention and couldn't tell so they let him go. Plus he wasn't wearing what she described. Oh and BTW people, when out In public, be it at night or during the day, don't keep your eyes glued to your phone. You never know what someone may do. Be careful out there.

A phone is unique to the user contains personal info and such and identifiable.. Dollars are all the same would be near impossible and not worth the effort to figure out who stole one dollar.

Sharing personal experience. I once found a cellphone at a gas station. It was unlocked. So I called their Mom. Owner lived in LA, 4 hours away. So I paid and sent them their cellphone. The owner couldn't believe it. Then I once lost mine in Mexico, someone found it, knew it was mine. Then asked me how much would I give them for it.

How did the suspect know it was a female's phone? The cops only only referred to them as a "person". *Edit 04/2020: I know the footage may have been edited to omit a mention of her gender, but it did seem to me the officer purposely tried to avoid mentioning the phone belonged to a woman...

Uncle Yo you see don’t say that if it’s not true. That’ll just make the cop think you’re trying to deceive him and be less willingly to work with you. He didn’t give them any extra gunk. He said he found it and didn’t make up any excuse cause he knew and they knew he was gonna keep it. Cops didn’t have to let him go, but they did and his (at least semi) honesty helped with that

I went out for my birthday and had everything stolen from my clutch purse. New year's Eve day I get a call from Milwaukee PD that they had my phone. Des Moines PD called to say they had 3 of my credit cards. And Dallas a month later said they had my driver's licence. I went out for my birthday in Chicago.

For those unaware, in most states there is a specific value of an item at which point you are legally required to turn the item (cash, jewelry, phone, whatever) in to the police. If you don't, you can be charged with theft. So, while $1 is below that threshold (generally), a phone will be over it (generally). "Finders, keepers" is not a legal theory.

it still doesnt prove he took it, just because it seems like it he did it, doesnt add up as proof...its not illegal to walk with something under your armpit. the minute we start allowing things like that as prob cause to arrest and charge someone, you go down a very very bad, slippery slope...where does it stop. for example"oh your acting nervous and shaking, you must be guilty"..its his word against hers, with no other witnesses and he not being able to id..

Beyond reasonable doubt. He wasn't matching the description. It's easy to watch from the sidelines, but the bottom line is that this isn't evidence for court case, it's entertainment, and as such, they might play up certain factors.

I found this car running and was driving around looking for the owner..... *Arrested* I was walking and found this phone and tucked it under my armpit so it wouldn't fall when you Pat me down. I have had many phones stolen from me in the past that I lost...... *Free to go but next time take it to the police station* SMH

Lost is one thing but if it is reported stolen than the imei would be in the carrier database and possibly even the police database as stolen. and possession of stolen property is it’s self a crime even if you did not steal the item in question.

Never pick up a phone or any other thing thats not yours. There have been cases of people that found an item and return only to be accused of theft. Just leave the item alone.

I have to disagree with the cop on the dollar analogy. If you find a dollar on the ground, you can take it, it won't somehow find it's way to the person who lost it. He should have just said that a phone and 1 dollar is not the same thing.

I don’t ever see the cop say it’s a “her” who lost the phone. Then the guy says when the “lady” comes down she can see I didn’t take her phone.... I watched it back and the cop always says this person and their phone. The guy is the one who says she first. Soo hmmmm..
