Hey thanks! Just be careful cause it will defiently make you sweat and trap moisture. A little bit of a double edged sword. You get way warmer but the moisture could potentially get much colder too

My son uses that exact sleeping bag I use the xl version and we have both been impressed. We’re in south Texas so extreme cold is not a big problem we use them primarily for November December hunting. We’ve slept as cold as 28 degrees but we were in a large tent on cots with sleeping pads on them but we were warm with no layering just underwear and tee shirts. I have also used my xl in a hammock I added a sleeping pad and slept at at 50 degrees comfortably.

Great job on the video. I was also eyeing one of these a while back. I ended up getting top and bottom quilts from HG, but like you said, this would be a great choice if you weren’t trying to get down to the colder temperatures. Although you did show some great layering options that would work and still save so much weight and space. Great job!

Hey thank you so much! Yeah that bag is a solid option when it comes to the holy trinity of price/size/weight. There's better options out there but one or more of those factors would have to increase/decrease. It's a nice balance of the 3. Thanks for watching 😊

I have the -20° to 0° (f) aegismax bag and it is exactly the same as this one, just scaled for more warmth, and love it! Mine has a draft tube with anti-snag, which works well, but not as good as my TNF bag in that regard. For the price, nothing comes close. My bag is 5 yrs old and still going strong, but I should probably wash it at some point...lol

thanks for this nice video. I have had this sleeping bag for a couple of years now and indeed I would not recommend it for camping in the show but it kept me warm wuite decently from March on with temp dropping to 40F. I have also adopted the same "onion layers" concept with an ultralight goose down from uniqlo (30 bucks) which I use as an extra layer when needed. BUT: the zipper is the weak point. it often gets stuck. I haven't tried to spray it with specific products, though, which migt solve the problem.

You could layer with the reflective bivy and a bag liner and be warm at 30 degrees. I have a large heavy bag that is supposedly good to the low 40s and live in north Florida. I also have a camoud bivy that I made from Tyvek. It fits in the compression sack with the bag. I actually pack it with the bag in the bivy. On hot nights I am fine with just the bivy but on colder nights I would layer them. If I was heading to a cooler region I would add a fleece liner, and could probably be comfy at well below freezing. Nice video you did here, and I had to watch because I would like to upgrade to something that is lighter as my current bag weighs just over 3.6 pounds. Being that my load out is for an INCH bag it is extremely heavy so my back would appreciate any weight savings. I should have a review on my load out next week. Check it out as it will contain some really good advice.

I picked this one up a couple of years ago. It's fine if you're camping with fairly warm overnights (as covered in the specs in this vid) - and it works pretty well unzipped as a quilt as well even though there's still a box for your feet, but if you're really interested in camping/hiking as a hobby, you need to pass on this one and at least get something in the 20- or 0-degree range. Put that $85 toward a better, warmer bag.

It’s opened my eyes. Am hoping to do the gr10 (Pyrenees) hike this summer subject to COVID…space a real concern. I’ve been looking at various options, but realistically a small form bag that can get down to low celcius, boosted by a thermal blanket and good base layers makes more sense than the option I was considering of spending huge money (£370 where I am) on thermarest gear. Thanks very much.

I highly suggest hotsac and a thermal liner extreme reactor that can add 25 degrees both of those and if you really want to stay warm depending on where you live get a nice UGQ or EE quilt that is like 0 degrees where I live it can get really cold -20 is not uncommon in some parts of the winter so in my case i just buy a good -30 sleeping bag but if you live in a warmer climate you can still double it with the hot sac and liner

I have to add than usually I feel quite worm in low temperatures. 30F I would say I lowest it should be used for. Spring till Autumn when it’s not to cold. For winter below that I have amazing Cumulus Tenequa

The Russell base layer stuff at Walmart works well. I think the L3 stuff is the fleece-y stuff and I wore that with my 20-degree bag to sleep on Mount Whitney. Temps above 10,0000 feet were cold enough at night to have a little frost on the poles inside, but the Russell stuff kept me warm. And it's damn near time for it to go on sale again at WM. Usually clearance price is $5-$7.

Im going somewhere that is 40 degrees for four nights straight. I sleep cold. IF I wore wool underware socks hat and jacket with the solar blanket.... You're saying this would work. It would be good to get a solar blanket as well? I just need to be good at 40 degrees for four nights??
@Soupcan13
@Soupcan13 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! If you tend to be comfortable sleeping on the cooler side and with all the extra wool you could pull it off. The only issue is say sith the solar blanket is it won't let sweat/moisture out=non breathable (but it will kick the temp up around 10ish degrees.) I've used this bag in 40 degree weather and been cold but fine. Layers help a ton. I think about it more like a second full body down jacket less than a heavy sleeping bag

I just went to Amazon & bought the AEGISMAX UL Goose Down Sleeping Bag in Tapered Rectangular, because I roll left & right throughout the night and didn't want the mummy bag. The rectangular, however, costs 50% more. I'll be hiking up a mountain in Honduras in a couple of weeks, and the temp drops at night, so I'm praying this bag keeps me cozy. 85$ is worth it for this. If you want something with more loft and lower temp rating you are gonna new to fork out more dough. Enlightened equipment makes the best bang for your buck in the ultralight down sleeping bag realm. I paid 245$ for my 20 degree quilt from EE. Other companies sell comparable bags for 325$+. Keep in mind quality 850+ fill down costs 30-35$ per 3 ounces. Takes 12 -16 ounces to get a 20 degree bag. Depending on size etc. so really 85$ is a good deal for what it is.

Another great solar blanket fact, it's great against outside infrared radiation, keeping you cool. Shadow doesn't mean cool most of the time, unless you're behind a building or underneath a thick foliage. For example, the heat in the car comes mostly from the infrared radiation from the sun heated roof. Drape a solar blanket underneath the roof or ceiling or roof liner, and it's much much cooler in tthe car even in full sun. Also: Fire shelters!

Damn that blows. I've had mine for about 3 years and used it aeound 15x and so far so good. Compression bag straps stitching is getting a little stretched but I figured it would. I baby the crap out of that bag though

@@Soupcan13 I hope if I exchange it the next one lasts because this thing is insane for the price. I camp on a motorcycle so the space saving this bag offers is priceless

Why would you wear layers like jeans and a jacket in your sleeping bag? That just makes you colder...
@justthebrttrk

This is such a dumb myth. How could wearing more layers make you colder? There are so many videos with real data disproving this age old nonsense.

Thanks for the video. I have the Rule, never wear clothes you would freeze a lot when getting out of the sleeping bag. In the Summer just my boxer shorts. In winter some thermo underwear and a second pair of thick of socks. If you need to go on toilet at 4 you will thank me 😉.

I don't recommend at all this product... First of all, the seller (Offical) send the product with multiple damages, there was no customer care at all, as the product was damaged, I went to check the Down Fill quality, it's extremely bad, most of them is a poor and thin synthetic material, AegisMax uses fake filling...

I always recommend buying everything through Amazon. I'd something is wrong with it you can send it back super easy. That sucks they aren't helping you out

"Comfort to 52-43-F'??? For $85??? I can do this with a Polar Fleece blanket and a mylar outer-cover (actually built this with some contact spray glue, works better than most 3-season bags anyhow...for less than 20-ounces)...no thanks, seems I don't need a down 3-season bag, afterall. For temps down to -15F ( I know this, because I've used it that low), you can't beat the Teton Sports Celsius XL, for a price

If the bulk and 6.5# weight of the Celsius XL isn't an issue, go for it. It's definitely not a backpacking/hiking bag, though. I'm not pimping this pack. I own one and no one should really take it below 50 degrees. But Teton's stuff, while good (maybe not so much anymore since there's some smoke in the air that their quality has gone down the last couple of years), is probably geared more toward car camping or overnights that just take you a few miles out. There's gear for all types, though. That's one of the great things that has happened over the last decade or so. There is still plenty of Ozark Trail gear that makes it into my Osprey bag. An OT day pack was with me at the Mount Whitney summit while the Atmos 65 hung out in the tent back at camp for the day. :)

If you sleep inside of this sleeping bag tucked inside of an emergency mylar bivy sack you will sweat because the Mylar is not breathable. Then you and your clothing and your goose down bag will be wet. This may cause hypothermia and death.
