He was only busy with his Lego Valyria and f*cking wives to get a son. Otto and Lionel basically ran everything. And he spoiled Rhaenyra to the core, neglected his other children. I understand he would not pluck out Luke's eye, but at least he should have punished him in some way. And if you want your daughter to be Queen, you should have taken more strong methods to ensure that her authority is not questioned by any courtiers. I love this show because it’s not black and white there’s no true villain or true hero. Rhaenyra wild carefree princess who knows no true consequences and expects everything to fall at her feet when everyone tried to warn her it won’t be that easy. Only to loose comfort from her father and best friend as she felt betrayed by their secrets. And having little to no empathy or understanding towards her friend who felt like a brood mare. She also never bothered to realise the stress alicent was under growning up as she just day dreamed her life away, alicent tried to keep her focused but failed. Had rhaenyra been truthful with her own secrets, her and alicent could have been friends and still she could have asked alicent for help maybe tell her that she was in love with ser Criston and asked to keep it a secret or just tell the fact that they’d slept together. And she had no sympathy for her brother who literally lost an eye I get he hit jace with a rock and beat up luc but still that’s your brother and your sons, a person should be more heart broken especially when your son could have killed your brother, they are all lucky that aemmond loosing his eye was all, he could have gotten an infection and possibly died. But alicent isn’t a saint either. She dismissed her own feeling for the sake of her father and house over and over until she directed them at rhaenyra. She also couldn’t see passed her own emotions and duty and see how the death of a mother and brother may affect her friend and especially when she falls pregnant so quickly after and it could have possibly made rhaenyra feel as though she was being pushed out right when her father seemed to accept her. And for Alicent to promote the bullying of her step grandsons, she knew aegon picked on his brother along with his cousins but solely directed it towards Rheanyras kids. And to make a mother either walk with or give up her baby right after birth just so her lazy butt wouldn’t have to walk there her self just so she could check the kids hair is wrong. And to cover up for your weak son when he violates someone or force him to be king when he doesn’t want to but your younger more qualified son does is also wrong. Alicent dismisses her feelings and others and finds ways to blame it on rhaenyra when in reality she’s jealous because one wrong move and alicents whole house/ life will come crumbling and she will be made a pariah. Where as rhaenyra was able to have three bastard sons and still have song of praise sang about her. And viserys the biggest offender of all. Not there for either of his wives ( kills ones, ignore the other) he was too focused on pleasing the court who was more focused on the next successor than the actual people they’re meant to protect. Where he could have just married leana ( yes she was young but he didn’t have to actually bed her) and by the time she was old enough he was still having kids with alicent so it wouldn’t have been a problem in matters of reproducing. It would leave Otto out of more power and influence wouldn’t have made friend turn against friend and maybe rhaenyra wouldn’t have been happy at first but she could have come to have a good relationship with her cousin eventually like she does when she’s older. And also I wonder if this was ever considered but I know it wasn’t mentioned in the show but he should have just named Laenor the male successor laenor is Valaryan and Targaryen and he could have still married rhaenyra off to him just not named her direct heir and and he could still make the deal that for laenor to take the throne he would have to use Targaryen as his name like he did when speaking of his grandsons. Making him marrying leana or alicent avoidable. In true reality his council wouldn’t have cared if it was his son or not because as long as their could get their claws in it’d be fine but they knew rhaenyra would see right through them that’s why they didn’t support her It’s just a very sad story of petty, emotionally neglectful, manipulative toddlers fighting that leads to the deaths of thousands and the fall of a wanna be great house 😂 ( yes we can love the Targaryens but let’s be honest most of, if not 99% of the kings were terrible or at best mediocre)

Bro is do fucking hard to not be on aemond's side because he has been trough the hero arch: 1. Being a child he is weak, coward and small, he has good quality like a sense of duty for his family, gets bullied by his family and has no dragon 2. He then mans up and showing incredible bravery, tames the biggest and oldest dragon in the world, then confronts his nephews and brother and looses his first fight, and an eye, gets no sympathy or recognition for it 3. Trains, studies, and becomes an intelligent and strong guy agaisnt all ods and one of the most dangerous man in westeros 4. Gets revenge agaisnt his nephew for taking his eye.

She should have banked on him instead of Aegon. Aegon literally told Aemond he didnt want to be king and told Aemond to do it. Alicent should have sent Aegon to Hightower instead of Daeron. And kept to Viserys' decree of banishing Otto from King's Landing. Aemond should have been his father's hand of the king (dedpite his young age). He was clearly ready, willing, and able to be dutiful to family- even at personal loss. Aemond deserved the crown more than either Rhaenyra or Aegon. And if he hadn't accidentally gotten Luke killed, Rhaenyra might have been willing to at least clue him in about the white walkers like Viserys did for her. The only real reason Rhaenyra needed to win was because Viserys only told her about the white walkers, not the rest of his children. And she clearly told her children with Daemon about it because otherwise, how else would Rhaegar have known and figured out what to do?

She was the only one to defend him. In a room full of his family. People still wonder why the Greens hold resentment.

I feel like what I know of this show Aemond was constantly getting the short end of the stick and I apologize for inaccurate assumptions in this comment now. Was he the 3rd child? I know Rhaenyra was the eldest from the first wife, and then Alicent had either 2 or 3 one was a daughter that was an oracle? And it's implied that Aemond wanted to marry her as was custom for the Targaryen dynamic at the time, and that Rhaenyra tried to be fair in marrying one of her sons to the sister as well but it was refused too, but I know she gets married to someone else. So my point is he doesn't get the throne, he didn't get his own dragon initially, then he had an eye taken from him (idk if that was on purpose or if it was an accident when they were squabbling), then he was put in a position to have to watch his sister/the girl he was hoping to marry whither under a loveless marriage and oracle's madness. He also had to deal with the fact he killed his nephew when he didn't mean to and the knowledge he plunged his own family into war.

Say what you want about both of these women but they love their children. Even if alicent definitely has a golden child.

I’m neither team green or team black because picking a “side” in a complicated story of political machinations and power is not at all the point of the story nor does it make sense since things aren’t black and white, but god damn does this scene showcase and validate a lot of Alicent’s growing feelings of paranoia and anger and highlight Rhaenyra’s biggest flaw which is her entitlement (not entirely her fault because Viserys has always coddled her and given her so much leeway). Alicent is by no ways perfect but this scene really cemented her as someone I sympathize with because when you look at her story, how much of what she has done was truly malicious? I’d argue nothing. She was a child who was manipulated and forced to raise children and constantly made to see how Viserys favoured Rhaenyra to the point of not giving a shit that his own son lost an eye and Rhaenyra of all people demanded Aemond to be “questioned sharply”. Of course she would be incensed here. She’s defending her child where no one else did. Alicent reacting this strongly isn’t a moment of craziness but rather nearly two decades of abuse and neglect. Yet even then, she’s not a monster. She regrets her actions and everything she’s done she’s done to protect her sons because no one else will. Alicent is complex, by no means perfect, but she is not a monster. She’s just a woman who was a scared and abused girl in forced to grow up too fast.

I saw another clip of this same situation them yelling about the boys eye and the other child needed to be punished But a comment said that this white haired child was being a bully and the only reason he got hurt was because that boy was protecting whoever he was harming (I don’t watch the show and don’t plan too it seems long af lol) but if that’s the case karmas a mean one (but than something happened to the other boy so that sucked)

I cannot stand Rhaenyra. She has done nothing but jeopardize the lives of everybody around her. Sleeping with knights, who technically can’t turn her down, knowing that they could be put to death for breaking their vows. Having children with a man who isn’t her husband and then basically expecting everybody around her to ignore the fact that they look absolutely nothing like her husband. She’s also more concerned with the fact that her sons were called a bastard when that’s what they are than her brothers eye being cut out of his head. She just disgusts me as a person. I don't think either side was necessarily "right" during this scene. They are all CHILDREN, a fight broke out due to bullying and everybody was defending themselves. Alicent had every right to defend her son, just like Rhaenyra did. These are CHILDREN that adults are projecting their problems onto because of a bitter rivalry. However that is the whole point of the series, nobody will ever be purely good or bad. Each side has their rights and wrongs.

I think this scene perfectly encapsulates when Alicent truly won Aemond's loyalty. When she was prepared to slice out her nephew's eye to avenge her son. That's when she won his loyalty.

Alicent is so weirdly written in this scene. I mean, imagine if someone actually behavied like this after a child was badly injured in a fight--but it was a fight that he started, in real life it would be crazy. Kids are jerks and of course I'd be furious that he was so hurt, but it's psycho behavior to maim a child for the sake of fairness. Aemond was being a huge dick to his cousins. And those poor girls, this dick just stole their mother's dragon right after she died. Raenerya is his half-sister, and Alicent probably manipulated him against her. I'm sure, as an older teenager, Rhaenerya wanted nothing to do with him. The time skips were crazy ( like did she just spend 6 years at dragon stone ignoring everything happening at court?!) But at some point, I'm sure she wanted to at least get to know her younger brother. And Alicent made sure this never happened, intentionally isolating Rhaenerya and her father and her own family. Instead of focusing on a united front and a strong family, she just puppeted her fathers ambition. Having her bloodline on the throne was the most important thing to her. She has such a massive flaw, yet no likable charistics. And then actually comes at the kid--her husband's grandson with a knife--thats psycho. Its like the writers automatically want you to support the blacks and instead of good writing, they do this by making the greens seem totally crazy. And then they make Aegon a casual rapist, and Alicent just pays off the victims...like yeah, these are terrible people. So instead of writing Rhaenerya well and giving her screentime, we just get crazy Alicent and then they decide her other son is a rapist. I feel like i barely know the main character, like couldn't list more than 4 things about her. And then Alicent has only negative traits. It makes me feel totally crazy when people say this is a great show. Its fine, aside from the budget allowing for a gorgeous world, its a shrug. Its good, but no season 1 of GoT

Team black here, also a defender that Aemond was in the wrong for claiming Vhagar without giving his cousin a chance to claim her mother's late dragon. Also important to mention I don't think Luke went overboard when he took Aemond's eye (Aemond was going to bash his brother's head with a rock, come on).
