amazing that they kept it in considering that certain writers wanted Daemon to be as much of a bad guy as possible also in the book it was never mentioned that Daemon was abusive to Rhaenyra in any way also in the books he was very reluctant to start a war with dragons right away cause he knew the history of Valyrian dragon lords and knew that dragon fights often end with both dragons dead ...in the show he cant wait to start a war between dragons , they did his character dirty

Rhaenrya and her father are normal in regard to Targaryen tradition. They do break the rules sometimes, but who they married and the incest-y element of Rhaenrya and Daemon is not at all abnormal for the Targaryens. I mean Alicent marries two of her children to each other citing Targaryen tradition after calling it odd. I’d argued niece and uncle is better than brother and sister.

Niece and Uncle is likely to increase genetic diversity having the couple be less close that way, buuuut…. The power dynamic in that relationship is WAY off, socially, because of issues with age, grooming, maturity versus immaturity... When does one’s eye drift to the other? How long do they hold off even hinting at something more between them? Lots of questions to ask, even with the Targaryens, because this is dangerous territory for the younger and most likely heavily influenced party. If it’s in the way of Daenerys and Jon, where their ages are much closer and the very real distances in every respect (physical distance, emotional distance as they have literally never met before, and age difference being quite small) all make for a much healthier dynamic to develop than Rhaenyra and Daemon- if Daenerys and Jon were to get together in a universe that isn’t directed by two fools- although, given that in the books the ages were different, it might be sliiiightly less of an issue there. But I’ll have to double check that one, the issues mentioned before are still very real though! Still incredibly not okay, either and any way! The only “but” in here is that they’re fictional blood magic imbued people who seem to be trying to clone themselves to keep the magic and control of dragons in the family as it could realistically be lost with dilution- but there are a few characters who had only a drop of dragon rider bloodlines and still could claim a dragon- and possibly do other magics- so who knows how true the importance of incest actually is! Could just be a real big case of “oops, we don’t understand genetics!” Kind of like what seemed to happen to the Egyptian royal families a lot.

I believe there are fairly clear canonical examples that the Dragons blood does indeed dilute if muddled by non-valyrian marriages enough. I believe the best calculation with most evidence was that three-generations of marriages between non-valyrian people and the blood would be too diluted to bond with a dragon successfully. (Dont ask me for the name of the guy, Im sure one can find it by a google search xd). Jon and Daenerys are (if the R + L Equals Jon theory is correct, like it most likely will be,) an aunt and nephew, which is an acceptable marriage by Westerosi standards, even the Starks married uncle and niece in the past. The entire "eww" Auntie trope in the show was D&D's creation which goes completely against already set canonical precedent. In fact one could argue there's more reason than ever for the two to marry, there are three dragons in the world, Daeenrys will need a Westerosi spouse and Jon Snow is highly respected even as a bastard, their blood needs to remain pure for future generations of Targaryens, yaadi aadi yaa. Incest is wrong and has no place in our world, theres a reason why people find it disturbing, but like we all know (or should now) Westeros and Planetos is NOT our world and does not play by our rules, one needs to separate the two and play by the fictional settings rules. Though your point about grooming and dangerous relationships was brilliant and 100% correct. Daenerys is a year younger than Jon, so there relationship is more than acceptable by that standard. @@rookiequasar5763

They are the normal ones....Greens are villains in the book although in the show they made them more sympathetic...I have never seen such an heated arguments over the characters in the show like in House of the dragon probably because all of it comes down to politics...if you are more liberal kind of person then you are team black...if you are hard christian conservative then you are team green, simple as that :D

Would mother in law of Daemon be the correct term? She's only Rhaenyra's stepmother not mother. Would that make her stepmother in law? 😅And grandmother in law means someone is the grandmother of someone's spouse. Jace, Luke and Joffrey aren't married so that's not possible. She might be considered their step-grandmother. And I don't know if it's just worded a bit confusingly but she is mother and mother in law of Aegon and Helaena and grandmother of their children. It isn't that weird that she is only related to her children and grandchildren. That hasn't anything to do with the incest but because she married into the Targaryen family. All the people she is actually related to are on her Hightower side. Not saying the Targaryen family tree isn't weird and the relationships between everyone aren't confusing but your depiction wasn't completely accurate.

In books, Viserys' parent were siblings, just like grandparents. And in feudal times, betrothing babies happened. So it wouldnt be that weird and as we know, it would save them from civil war

@@angelinenabua6336 oh also a little extra clarification, Rhaenrya and Viserys are a lot younger in the books and Alicent is older. When Alicent marries Viserys, she is 18-19 and he is 29-30. Not nearly as bad as in the show. Rhaenrya, however, is only 9 when this happens.

It’s because Alicent lost her virginity to Daemon. In the books it is highly implied that they slept together and Alicent had a crush on him. So Rhaenrya going and sleeping with Daemon even though she didn’t would upset her

@@Albitacrazy The reader is left to guess which ending is correct. In Mushroom’s version of events, what I stated is corrected. In the books Alicent is much older than Rhaenrya. They aged her down and Rhaenrya up for the series.

In fairness, ALL of the accounts from the books are unreliable because they weren’t written by people who were there. The stories are written by maesters from people recounting the events.
