This week I'm sharing my review of the Aeonia Age Defying Serum from Delavie Sciences having used it for over two months.
The serum includes the space-tested ingredient bacillus lysate, derived from an 'extremophile' bacteria which can survive the toughest of environmental conditions. That's why there is excitement around the potential of bacillus lysate to offer added protection as well as boosting cellular activity in our skin.

Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical. Dr. David Sinclair has become questionable backing products that he sells with his "science" that ultimately show little effectiveness in RCTs in humans.. like nmn. Maybe for those over 65 it might help. Is it marketing or real science with him? Hard to tell

I would be interested on how the bacillus lycate compares to ectoin. Ectoin is also produced from a bacterium that can survive in extreme environments and has very similar benefits (hydration, protection from uv and stressors), but is way more affordable and accessible.

Agree. We are always looking for the one miracle ingredient. Hmmm. After 24 years in the industry I can safely say NOPE. The skin likes variety. Vitamins. Minerals. Protein. The stuff found in food. Peptides, stem cells etc. Stepping off soapbox now.

I'm highly sceptical to be honest. One study carried out and paid by the company which makes the product doesn't make it science-based for me. Also, you used other products during those two months and you don't mention the in-office treatments you had which could have improved your skin. I wouldn't buy this serum, very expensive and really doesn't have enough objective science behind it. Also, "purging" always makes me suspicious, I think you just had an alregic reaction. Thanks for sharing your experience anyway!
@thehonestchannel

To be fair most skincare studies are paid for by the makers so that’s not unusual but I agree that it’s expensive and I certainly had some kind of reaction to it. I did microneedling at the start of the year but didn’t overlap and have otherwise just followed my basic routine.

Did their study have a control condition? Comparison with baseline is not enough. And what does it mean that the serum has a 'purge' period? Does it increase cellular turnover, 'purging' pimples like retinoids? And since it claims such DRASTIC antiageing properties, where is the catch? Wasn't that anti tretinoin doctor saying that there is always a cost? How can we trust all these products not to have some mysterious skin thinning effect, since there are such few, if ANY, studies at all, especially long term?
@thehonestchannel
@thehonestchannel Ай бұрын
I think it is always a fair point to say we don't truly know the long-term impact of frequent/daily use of different ingredients, and combinations of ingredients (including preservatives) on our skin. That is why I think less is more and why I tend to use things in lower quantities and frequencies than are recommended by the makers.

Claire, it is fantastic that you are testing Aeonia as I am curious how it will perform for you long run. I have just finished my third bottle and have one more to go. I have noticed that the lines around my eyes have soften but noted a new ones at the same time. I use it only in the morning as it was too irritating. Also, didn't have a good experience with the second purchase as the boxes had seals broken on arrival but the company reassured me that they have a strict measures so nothing wrong with the serums..... Looking forward to your follow up on this product.

I'm really looking forward to your other video with Dr. Hitchcock from Biojuve as I am very interested in obtaining this product. I want to hear all questions but if you can sneak in one last one would be amazing; I like to put on castor oil at night all over my face as an occlusive and I learnt that this also a primary ingredient in Biojuve, can I still put on the castor oil at night or would it decrease the effects of the Xycrobe technology. Are proportions important for the action or not really? Have a nice dary!

Not impressed by the results. It seems anyone could get similar results with tretinoin and other interventions. I'm not willing to put any 'extremophile' anywhere on my skin. The risk and irritation isn't worth it. There aren't enough long-term studies. I think they discovered something novel and found a way to turn it into a cash cow.

Hi Clare. I do think your skin looks very healthy and your complexion looks bright with a " plumpness". Certainly interested in the long term results. I think most actives need 3 months to evaluate efficiency. I am always amazed when I read reviews and people claim wonderful results after a week! I noticed a subtle improvement with calecim multi action cream after 3 months and continue to use it.

I agree, though the trials for this one were run over 28 days so they’re marketing it as something that can make a difference in a short period. Good to hear you’re starting to see a difference with Calecim. That one definitely needs time. Shame these products are so expensive!

It’s super interesting. (Bacillus holds a place dear to my heart as I used to make vaccines with this bug as a delivery vector!) But I do wonder how it compares to tretinoin, which you can get for pennies. I suppose the SPF boosting is a novel USP. Although, they showed how increasing the bacillus lysate concentration actually reduced the sunscreen protection in their paper, which is super odd I have some thoughts on their statistical analysis but they’re a bit harsh so I’ll keep them to myself! Think I’ll keep an eye on the area and consider purchasing when it’s a bit more affordable. (Not a criticism, I’m fine with luxury skincare! Men never get criticised on luxury car/watch/sports/aftershave channels!)

Just before I got hacked 😩 Dr Landry was going to take a look over the comments on my interview with him and respond so I’ll ask if he could take a look here as the SPF point would be very interesting to hear from him on. Others have also raised the point about tret. Different action on the skin of course but potentially complementary. I do wonder if in time we’ll be advised not to use higher strength tret daily long-term on our skin but that’s a whole different debate 😉 Thanks as always for your insight. ❤️
@AFndjdj7373
@AFndjdj7373 Ай бұрын
@@thehonestchannelthanks Clare! I guess my three main questions would be 1) SPF protection is boosted with low levels of bacillus lysate. Why does it decrease with higher levels? 2) does destroying the bacterial structures (biofilms, spores) reduce a lot of the bug’s resistance to radiation damage? Is it just essentially a moisturiser with antioxidants? 3) what’s the active ingredient in the bacillus lysate? I don’t want these to seem harsh or critical! It’s just that I’m super curious, and I think with science-based products they should be able to take some scientific peer-review 😅

Not sure I’m convinced enough to make the financial commitment to this one but always interested to hear about new technology 🙏🏻 Can’t wait to watch your next video with Dr Hitchcock. I’m a couple of months into my Biojuve routine & my skin is looking great. Skin barrier repaired, contact dermatitis cleared, rosacea outbreak at bay & skin feeling plump & bouncy. This was a complete rethink for me as I normally have at least 4 steps in my routine & am addicted to regular exfoliation which is the reason my skin barrier was poorly! The Biojuve routine isn’t cheap but with a paring down of the number of products to purchase & almost immediate improvement to my skin it has been worth the investment so far. I’m coming to the end of my Biojuve products & I’m pretty certain I’ll repurchase ❤
